Chapter 51: Chapter 51: Can’t Think of a Title
Gu Yunqi sat calmly in a chair. After Gu Xulin was done shouting, Gu Yunqi thoughtfully handed him a glass of water.
Gu Xulin was practically bouncing with impatience. "What’s there to drink?! We have to find Gu Zhao! Are you going or not? If you won’t, I will!"
With that, Gu Xulin tried to get out of bed.
Gu Yunqi sighed in resignation. "And do what? Get yourself captured too? Their target is Big Brother. As long as they want to use Gu Zhao to threaten him, they won’t actually hurt her."
Gu Xulin froze. "Big Brother?"
Then, he let out a laugh of pure frustration. "Threaten Big Brother by kidnapping Gu Zhao? Does Gu Zhao even know who Big Brother is? Does Big Brother even know who *she* is?"
The thought made him even more frantic. He quickly threw on his shoes, ready to rush out and search.
’Big Brother... I’d have better luck believing Gu Zhao could break out on her own than counting on him!’
Gu Yunqi blocked his way. "Trust your big brother."
Gu Xulin blew up. "Trust him? You know what Big Brother is like! The man probably wishes he could live in the sewers to avoid people! He practically has to write a script before he can even talk to anyone!"
"Him, rescue Gu Zhao? By the time he finds a suitable sewer entrance, she’ll be dead! Or maybe he’ll rescue her after he finishes organizing his thoughts—and writing a ten-thousand-word draft?"
Gu Yunqi fell silent for a few seconds. "Then trust his assistant."
Gu Xulin: "..."
’Okay, that’s more believable.’
「Zone N. A special research base.」
In front of a three-story villa, a man paced back and forth anxiously.
’Where did he go?! Where did he go *now*?!’
Zhang Bai walked to the base of a tree and looked up. "Did the Chief Commander go out?"
A figure in camouflage gear dropped from the tree, a real firearm in his hands. "Reporting, sir! No one has come out. The sewer watch reports no sightings either."
Zhang Bai was exasperated. "Where else could he possibly have gone to hide!"
’Not in the villa, not in the sewers, not in the panic room, not in the workshop.’
"Chief Commander! Your sister has been kidnapped!" With no other options, he yelled directly at the villa.
A moment later, he received a message.
Gu Xingyu: Find her. Don’t find me.
Zhang Bai: "..."
He immediately tried to reply, only to be met with the familiar red exclamation mark.
’Blocked again...’
’Even though I’m used to it, it’s still so frustrating.’
’Your sister has been kidnapped!!’
Muttering curses under his breath, Zhang Bai went to assemble a team.
Meanwhile, in the villa’s basement, a man climbed out of a box.
Seeing that the people outside had left, Gu Xingyu breathed a sigh of relief.
’He felt a profound sense of aversion and annoyance toward Gu Zhao. She started causing trouble the moment she came back!’
’So annoying, so, so annoying!’
Done with his internal complaints, he tiptoed through his own villa to the laboratory, locked the door securely, and resumed his research.
...
Zhang Bai, leading a team and coordinating with local authorities, quickly locked onto the location.
They rushed toward the destination.
Meanwhile, Gu Zhao was looking at the unconscious boy, poking his cheek.
He didn’t stir.
Gu Zhao poked him again.
Still nothing.
’He’s kinda cute,’ Gu Zhao thought, but her patience had run out. She pinched his nose shut.
It wasn’t long before he was jolted awake, gasping for air.
The first thing Feng Tingyue did upon waking was scan his surroundings. He breathed a sigh of relief when he didn’t see the snake.
Then he looked over at Gu Zhao. Seeing the look of utter disgust on her face, he knew she was fine, too.
"You..."
Feng Tingyue’s jaw dropped as he looked around. Seeing countless snakes slithering into the room, he felt himself about to pass out again.
But Gu Zhao was ready this time. She jabbed the pressure point under his nose.
She wouldn’t let him faint.
Feng Tingyue wanted to pass out but couldn’t. He could only watch in horror as the snakes crawled over his body.
The sensation... ’I want to die.’
"Big Sister! Hello! Were you bullied by the mean two-leggers? We’ll get revenge for you!" The cobra’s head nuzzled against Gu Zhao’s hand.
Gu Zhao released the pressure point on Feng Tingyue and cupped the cobra in her hands.
The cobra obligingly coiled its body around Gu Zhao’s arm.
Gu Zhao held its head close, and they had a staring contest.
The cobra didn’t understand, but it played along.
"Whoa." Gu Zhao stroked its neck. "So cute!"
Feng Tingyue wanted to cry.
He was numb from the pinch and couldn’t even pass out.
"Can... can you tell them not to... not to crawl on me?" Feng Tingyue’s voice was muffled and verged on tears.
Gu Zhao glanced down. He was completely covered in snakes, all of them using him as a platform to get a better look at her.
"Big Sister~" The snakes, seeing her gaze upon them, immediately started wiggling their bodies.
They were one step away from crying, ’Come and play, Big King!’
She directed the swarm of snakes to one side, away from a group of rats that were also trembling in a corner.
Once all the snakes had assembled, Gu Zhao had them form neat rows.
Looking at them, she was filled with a sense of security!
’But I feel like I’ve forgotten something.’
Feng Tingyue looked at Gu Zhao with a pitiful expression, his voice timid. "H-hello... C-could you untie me, too?"
That’s it! Gu Zhao remembered. "What’s your name? What are your parents’ names? How wealthy are they? How many houses do they own? I’m saving you, so what’s my reward?"
The little boy was stunned. "Feng Tingyue... My family should be very wealthy, and we should have a lot of houses... If you save me, I’ll give you two houses?"
Gu Zhao’s eyes lit up. "Well now, look at this little sugar da—I mean, you’ve got a good eye! I’ll make damn sure saving you is worth those two houses!"
"Quick, go chew through the ropes for my generous patron," Gu Zhao said, looking at the rats.
The rats swarmed him, and once again, Feng Tingyue felt the will to live leave him.
But the torment was over quickly. The ropes snapped.
He scrambled to his feet, shaking off the tattered ropes. He looked at Gu Zhao. "What’s your name?"
Gu Zhao: "Just call me Big King."
"Don’t forget what you promised," Gu Zhao said, glancing at him before turning to rally her troops.
"You, you, and you... you few go bite those guys over there. And you, you bite that one..."
After assigning targets to the snakes, she tasked the rats with creating a diversion.
Once everything was in place, she looked back at Feng Tingyue. "You didn’t see a thing. They’re just biting people on their own, understand?"
Feng Tingyue got it! He nodded immediately. "The bad guys must have provoked them!"
’This kid’s teachable!’ Gu Zhao was quite pleased.
Gu Zhao crept to the window to observe the situation outside. Seeing that her captors hadn’t noticed anything amiss, she immediately sent her troops out to launch a surprise attack.
"AH! Fuck, a snake!" The man standing closest to the tall grass was bitten. Before he could even react, the snake that bit him had vanished.
The others realized they were surrounded by snakes.
"Are they rabid?!"
"Kill the little bastards! They’re just a bunch of worms!"
"Is that a cobra?! And a pit viper? They’re venomous, be careful!" The man was bitten just as he finished shouting.
Unable to take it anymore, one of them grabbed his gun and started firing.
BANG! BANG! BANG! The gunshots shattered the quiet.
"Are you an idiot?! Motherfucker, pack your shit, we’re moving out!" the man they called boss yelled, his eyes blazing with fury.
But the swarm of snakes had no intention of letting them leave. Just then, the rats also came scurrying out in a frenzy, charging right at the men.
There were dozens of them, a dense, writhing mass.
In their panic, they started shooting wildly, and the snakes seized the opportunity to bite several more of them.
Seeing her captors descend into chaos, Gu Zhao grabbed Feng Tingyue and bolted out the door, making a break for the mountain.
"The hostages are getting away!" someone shouted, starting to give chase.
At this, the swarms of snakes and rats latched onto their legs. If anyone fell, a pack of rats would immediately swarm them, biting relentlessly.
Down at the foot of the mountain.
Zhang Bai’s face went pale when he heard the gunshots.
A team of armed personnel charged up the slope.
When they arrived at the scene, everyone froze for a split second. This was not the scenario they had envisioned.
The snakes couldn’t distinguish between friend and foe. Seeing the newcomers, they began to hiss, tongues flicking.
"Save them!" Zhang Bai shouted upon seeing men being bitten by snakes and gnawed on by rats.
Instantly, rifle muzzles swiveled to aim at the venomous snakes and rats.
