Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Bound to Be a Sleepless Night

Yu Zimo was furious!

His father had forced him to go on this variety show with his actress sister. Then he’d been pushed by that beast! And cursed at by that little bastard!

And now even a bird dared to curse him?!!

"Damned animal!" Yu Zimo looked around, spotted a broom nearby, and immediately grabbed it to swat at the parrot.

The parrot immediately took flight, zipping back and forth inside the cabin. Yu Zimo couldn’t hit it, so it made a point of flying right over his head.

"Can’t get me, can’t get me!"

"Die, die!" Yu Zimo chased it, swatting wildly and knocking over things in the cabin.

Yu Xiaowei: ...

’Isn’t he the least bit afraid of the viewers flaming him?’

[Holy crap! Has this brat ever been disciplined? Hitting a bird with a broom?]

[Is there something wrong with Yu Zimo’s head? He’s lucky the gorilla didn’t beat him up, and he was still screaming about killing it? Now he’s getting mad at a bird?]

[My god, he’s so hostile. I feel so bad for my Weiwei.]

[Bestie, get over here! I found your favorite type of character: the domineering CEO who’ll kill you if you so much as disagree with him!]

[I suddenly understand why Gu Zhao told him to go lick a toilet. His mouth really needs a good washing, or he’ll pollute the air.]

[I’m out, I’m out. I’m going to watch Gu Zhao’s stream. Gu Xulin and the others are getting ready for a barbecue!]

「Over on Gu Zhao’s side.」

Gu Zhao found Gu Xulin at Zhong Siqi’s cabin.

Gu Xulin and Song Zhe were trying to start a fire. They didn’t have charcoal, so they were using wood.

But...

Both of them were covered in soot, but the fire still hadn’t caught.

"Brother, and Brother Gu, are you guys going to be okay? Maybe we should just go find Big King," Song Yi said, looking worried.

He didn’t understand why Brother Gu insisted on hiding this from Big King.

’It would be so much easier if Big King were here. I don’t get adults. They make things hard for themselves for no reason.’

"You don’t get it. This is a man’s pride," Zhong Mingrui said, also looking troubled. His own brother was cutting onions, tears streaming down his face.

"Sigh..."

"Sigh..."

The two kids looked utterly dejected.

"Hey, it’s Big King!" Zhong Mingrui suddenly spotted Gu Zhao walking over in the distance and was instantly re-energized.

"Big King, over here!"

"Big King! Big King!" Song Yi ran straight to her.

Gu Xulin: ??!! ’Wasn’t she sleeping?! Why is she up so early?!’

He quickly wiped his face with his arm, only managing to smudge the soot and make it dirtier.

As Gu Zhao got closer, she saw the "dark-mode" version of her brother.

"Brother, have you gone to the dark side?" She hesitated, then sighed. "It’s a little ugly."

Gu Xulin shot her a cool glance, then huffily turned his back to her, sulking in silence with a sour expression.

"Brother, what are we having for dinner? I’m hungry." Gu Zhao, acting as if she hadn’t noticed a thing, found a spot and sat down on the ground.

Gu Xulin wanted to give her the cold shoulder for a bit. ’Give her an inch and she’ll take a mile, climbing the walls and tearing off the roof tiles.’

But when he saw her sit right on the ground, his "concerned father" mode immediately activated. "If you’re hungry, then wait! Don’t sit on the ground! If you get your clothes dirty again, I’m not washing them for you!"

Such a nag.

[OMG! That glance he just gave her was full of hurt, but he was trying so hard to act cold. The contrast is adorable, I’m dead!]

[The way these siblings interact is hitting me right in the feels! One is a hot-tempered guy who’s all bark and no bite, and the other is a carefree little foodie. I ship it!]

After about half an hour, they were finally eating.

Zhong Siqi went and brought over the gorilla and the panda.

Their two families’ pets, the calf and the alpaca, were there too.

There was still plenty of fruit left over from what the animals had brought at noon, and the little ones were happily munching away.

Full and satisfied, the group gathered together.

The animals played nearby.

"I almost feel like I’m on vacation. This is so comfortable," Zhong Siqi said, copying Gu Zhao by sitting on the ground and looking up at the starry sky.

Song Zhe, munching on some after-dinner fruit, chimed in, "I agree! My bad luck is gone! No more random bird droppings landing on my head! No one’s mistaking me for a home-wrecker and beating me up!"

"This is bliss!" Song Zhe flopped directly onto the grass.

In stark contrast, the other teams were not having such a good time.

Ye Zuiyi and Ye Zexi had spent the entire afternoon searching before finally finding a task card in an abandoned lotus pond.

The task was to clean the sludge from the lotus pond. The reward for clearing one-third of it was six bananas.

After toiling away for most of the day, the moment they received the bananas, Ye Zuiyi suddenly felt a little dazed.

’Aren’t I the female lead? Why is my life more miserable than a villain’s?!’

The two Tang Yuexuan sisters hadn’t done the previous task. Instead, they found another task card: give a bath to a monkey that had fallen into a cesspit.

The monkey was uncooperative, thinking they were bad people trying to steal its poop...

By the time they finished the task and returned to their cabin, they were mentally and physically exhausted.

...

Gu Xulin casually joined the conversation, but he frowned when he looked over at Gu Zhao.

Gu Zhao’s gaze kept darting in another direction.

"What are you looking at?"

Gu Zhao didn’t hide it. "The guests replacing Tong Yunxin’s team are here. Their kid partner wants our cabin, bullied the gorilla, and threatened me, telling me to just wait."

Gu Xulin’s eyes darkened. "Mm, your big brother will teach him a lesson for you."

The others were still chatting cheerfully, seemingly not having heard their conversation.

Gu Zhao was a little confused about what Gu Xulin meant.

After they finished eating and chatting, everyone went their separate ways.

In the middle of the night, Zhong Mingrui’s eyes snapped open. He carefully got dressed and walked toward the door.

He didn’t notice at all that he was the only one in the room.

Zhong Mingrui pushed open the door. The moon was bright, and his eyes quickly adjusted to the light outside.

He looked around furtively, like a thief. Seeing no one, he stealthily found a cloth and wrapped up some of the calf’s dung.

"What are you doing?" a voice suddenly sounded from behind him.

Zhong Mingrui jumped in fright and was about to throw the wrapped-up dung, but his wrist was caught the next second.

"Zhong Mingrui! Are you trying to murder your own brother?!" Zhong Siqi growled through clenched teeth.

"What are you doing here?!"

Realizing the voice belonged to his brother, Zhong Mingrui’s heart, which had just calmed slightly, tensed up again. "I... I was... admiring the moon!"

"Brother, what about you? Why aren’t you sleeping?!" he retorted.

Then, Zhong Mingrui sized up Zhong Siqi and noticed he was holding the same kind of cloth, filled with the same kind of cow dung.

Zhong Siqi also looked at his cloth and cow dung.

The two locked eyes. "For our benefactor."

"For Big King."

The brothers: A knowing look passed between them. They were comrades in dung.

With a shared understanding, the two brothers headed toward the new guests’ cabin.

「In the Song brothers’ cabin.」

Song Yi crept out, holding a cloth bundle.

He hadn’t taken more than a few steps when he saw his brother, Song Zhe, also holding a cloth bundle.

They shared an awkward laugh and walked toward the new guests’ place together.

Gu Xulin shifted stealthily. Seeing no reaction from Gu Zhao’s side, he got out of bed very quietly.

Just as he got up, the gorilla opened its eyes and looked at him quizzically.

Gu Xulin quickly walked over, clamped a hand over the gorilla’s mouth, and pulled it out of the room with him.

The man and the ape, after an unknown exchange, took some overripe bananas and headed off into the distance.

What Gu Xulin didn’t know was that the moment he left, a swarm of insects flew into the room and woke Gu Zhao up.

"Big Sis! Big Sis! We’re ready!" a small bee landed on Gu Zhao’s head.

A few mosquitoes buzzed in her ear.

Gu Zhao resisted the urge to slap them, silently chanting, ’They’re my own mosquitoes. Can’t hit them!’

She crawled out of bed and glanced to the side. She was a little confused not to see Gu Xulin, but then figured he had probably gone to the bathroom.

She didn’t dwell on it and left with her swarm of insects.
