Chapter 17: Sovereign of Slaughter

Lucien facepalmed, looking at what he had pulled with 8 Random Gacha Tickets.

It was a bit disappointing compared to his first Gacha pulls.

Only one was a Super Rare Grade Gacha Card, and it was a skill.

He looked at the only Rare Gacha Ticket he had. According to the system, there were Eternal Devotion Tokens (EDT) and Eternal Devotion Tickets (EDS).

The tickets could be used to increase the grade of the Gacha Card pulled by a rank.

And a thousand of the tokens could be exchanged for a ticket.

Now with two thousand of them, it meant he could exchange for two Eternal Devotion Tickets.

Lucien wasted no time as he exchanged for them.

Now with the tickets, he increased the grade of the Rare Gacha Ticket to a Super Super Rare Grade Gacha Ticket.

Now the minimum Gacha Card he could pull was Super Super Rare (SSR).

Lucien looked at the counter and used the ticket immediately.

He held his breath in anticipation. What reward would he pull?

Ding!

[Congratulations, Host. You have pulled a Mythic Grade Gacha Card (Trait): Sovereign of Slaughter’s Instinct (M).]

[Effect: Passive – Combat awareness +60%. Reaction speed +40%. Instinctively sense killing intent. Killing Intent – Host’s presence carries an oppressive weight. Enemies below the host’s cultivation level feel unease; weaker foes may flee. Active – Once per day, release a wave of slaughter intent that paralyzes enemies in a 15-meter radius for 3 seconds. Enemies above the host’s level are staggered and suffer -20% attack for 5 seconds. Cost: 40 MP. Cooldown: 24 hours.]

[Note: Evolves with combat experience. Warning: May attract dangerous attention.]

Lucien looked at the reward he had pulled, his eyes gleaming with excitement. He immediately fused with the reward.

A surge of energy flooded his body. His eyes glowed with a deep red hue, sharp and piercing. His gaze became sharper, more focused.

A faint, oppressive aura radiated from him, cold and domineering. The air around him seemed to still.

Lucien clenched his fists, feeling the new instincts settling into his bones. His body felt lighter, more responsive.

If before he was a noobie, now he was a veteran, like someone who had stepped on thousands of bones.

After a while, the aura faded, and he returned to his scholar-like demeanor, giving off a weak, unassuming vibe.

He was like a hidden dragon.

Lucien sat down cross-legged and began to absorb Originat.

Every second, he absorbed a wisp of Originat, gaining 10 EXP. His aura began to increase steadily.

Ding!

[Host has leveled up. +5 to all stats.] ×7

Now he had reached Level 6, the sixth level of the Initiate Realm.

As he wanted to continue, a knock interrupted him.

"Young Master Lucien, Young Miss asked me to call you for dinner."

An unfamiliar female voice came through the door, soft and respectful.

Lucien paused, his eyes flickering open. The red hue had faded completely, leaving only his calm, dark gaze.

He rose to his feet, brushing off his clothes. "I’ll be there shortly."

The footsteps retreated. Lucien let out a quiet breath.

He held his chin in thought. What was wrong with Seraphina?

Her behaviour and actions were different from what he had expected.

He stood up from the bed and stepped out of the room. As he stepped out, he saw a black-haired young woman dressed in a maid’s clothes.

He guessed this was the maid who had called him.

When the maid saw Lucien, she stepped forward and said, "I will lead the way, Young Master Lucien."

Lucien nodded and followed her.

He was dressed in a simple dark tunic and fitted trousers, comfortable and practical, far from the noble attire he once wore.

The maid walked ahead, her steps light and measured, leading him through the winding corridors of the castle.

They went toward the stairs, descending from the upper floors down to the ground level.

Not long after, they reached the dining room.

The room was spacious, lit by a single chandelier overhead. A long wooden table ran down the center, surrounded by high-backed chairs upholstered in deep crimson. Silver cutlery gleamed beside porcelain plates, and crystal goblets caught the faint light.

The walls were lined with dark wood panels, and a fireplace sat quietly at the far end.

Seraphina sat at the far end of the table, on a chair that stood apart from the rest, larger and taller, carved from dark polished wood. Its back rose high, adorned with intricate carvings of intertwining dragons and phoenixes.

Sensing his presence, she smiled and stood up, glancing at the maid who had brought Lucien. "You can tell the chefs to start serving."

"Yes, Young Miss." The maid replied respectfully, leaving the dining room.

"Come sit." Seraphina dragged him to where she sat, making him take the head of the clan’s chair while she sat beside him, the one next in hierarchy.

He glanced at her, her gaze fixed on him. "Don’t you ever get tired of looking at my face?"

Seraphina smiled. "No. Why ask such a stupid question? You should know the answer."

Lucien shrugged. "Here I thought you were going to lock me up in the room, but your actions seem different, and it’s confusing."

"Really?" Seraphina pulled closer to him.

"So that’s what you thought of me? I wonder what image of me you have in your mind." As she spoke, she drew closer, their faces just an inch apart.

"You should know the answer to that." He gave her a lazy glance.

"Do you hate me?" Her question made the atmosphere freeze. His memories flashed back to her actions in their past life.

His gaze unconsciously released a dark and cold aura.

Seraphina, who saw this, sat back down. "It seems I have my answers." She let out a dark chuckle.

Both of them were silent until the dinner was served. They began to eat before Lucien remembered something.

"I need to leave the mansion for something." He hadn’t forgotten about the system’s mission. Even though there was no penalty, he had a bad feeling, and it was the first mission of the system.

Seraphina paused her eating as if she had frozen. After a few seconds, she continued eating and said, "You know that’s impossible."

Lucien let out a heavy breath. It seemed he had high hopes.

He wondered how his future would be. How long could he last?
