Chapter 16: Gacha Pull

Ding!

[Seraphina Drax’s Obsession Link has deepened. Obsession increased by 40%. Resonance increased by 10%. The bond tightens.]

Ding!

[You are rewarded with 3 Random Gacha Tickets and 1 Rare Gacha Ticket.]

Lucien, who was training, was surprised by the sudden system notification. His fist, mid-swing, faltered for a moment.

His thoughts began to wander. What had happened that made Seraphina’s Obsession increase by such an amount? His brow furrowed, a bead of sweat rolling down his temple.

He didn’t know whether he should feel happy or worried.

"You are getting distracted." Ignis’s voice cut through, low and firm. His eyes narrowed, studying Lucien’s posture.

Lucien blinked, shaking his head as he refocused.

"Would you like to take a rest?" Ignis continued. He thought maybe Lucien was tired. The instructions given by the Empress were clear: even though they were training him, no injury or whatsoever must happen to him, or they would face her wrath.

Lucien shook his head. "No worries, we can continue."

"I think you will need a rest." This time, it was Seraphina’s voice that replied.

Ignis and Lucien turned to their side, seeing Seraphina standing at the entrance to the training ground. Her golden hair caught the torchlight, her figure framed against the dim corridor behind her.

She smiled, a soft, knowing curve of her lips, as her gaze settled on Lucien.

"You’ve been working hard," she said, her voice carrying a hint of tenderness. "But even the strongest need a moment to breathe."

"Greetings, Young Miss." Ignis clasped his fist together as he greeted with a bow.

Seraphina nodded as she waved her hand, dismissing the formality.

She jogged toward Lucien, a towel in her hands. Not minding his reaction, she began to carefully clean the sweat off him, her movements gentle yet deliberate.

This action startled Lucien, causing him to instinctively pull back.

Seraphina pretended not to notice, still carefully dabbing at his skin, her touch lingering a moment longer than necessary.

"You should know this isn’t needed that much," Lucien said after a while, his voice carrying a hint of exasperation.

With Originat, he could simply clean the sweat off him with a snap of his fingers.

Seraphina pouted, her lips forming an exaggerated frown. "Why do you like spoiling the fun?"

Lucien didn’t reply, just walking off to where his shirt was. As for Ignis, he had slipped off wisely, leaving the two alone.

"Did anything happen?" Lucien asked her as he dressed up, pulling the fabric over his damp skin.

The increase of the obsession level still baffled him.

"Nothing," Seraphina replied, her voice smooth and unreadable.

"Really?" Lucien took a glance at her, his eyes searching for any hint of deception.

She nodded her head, her expression innocent. Lucien didn’t bother asking further. All he hoped was that this ended in a good way.

After this, Seraphina escorted him back to his room. The maids greeted them respectfully as they passed, bowing their heads.

Lucien didn’t say anything, it was what he had wished for. He had been itching for some Gacha pulls.

After dinner, Lucien faced the system interface. He had 8 Random Gacha Tickets, 1 Rare Gacha Ticket, and 2000 Eternal Devotion Tokens.

With this, he was expecting to pull some good rewards.

Lucien summoned the Gacha Engine, looking at the slots and counter. He proceeded.

Ding!

[Gacha Tickets detected. Would you like to perform a pull? (Y/N)]

[Detecting high level of Obsession link. Rewards are enhanced passively. Minimum Gacha Pull is Rare Grade.]

He clicked Yes, spinning only one of the Random Tickets.

Ding!

[Congratulations, Host. You have pulled a Rare Grade Gacha Card (Skill): Ironhide Veil (R).]

[Effect: Active skill. Hardens the host’s skin temporarily, increasing physical defense by 25% for 30 seconds.]

Lucien didn’t stop there. He clicked again, praying for a Legendary or Primordial Grade Gacha Card.

He was greedy for it.

[Note: Cannot be used while under a major curse or suppression effect.]

Lucien spun four more Random Gacha Tickets, but looking at the system notifications before him, his excitement plummeted.

Now, out of the eight Random Gacha Tickets, he had two left. And all the rewards that came from them were disappointing to him. His shoulders slumped slightly, a frustrated sigh escaping his lips.

With the level of Obsession, the minimum was Rare Grade. What if he didn’t have that? Would that mean he would have pulled a Normal Grade reward?

Lucien began to hesitate. This Gacha Pull felt like gambling, but you never knew what you would get until you pulled it.

He contemplated on it, his fingers hovering over the interface. After a while, he decided to spin it. It wasn’t as if there was a limit to the Gacha Tickets he would get.

And also, there was still a Rare Grade Gacha Ticket with Eternal Devotion Tokens. If he used them, they should pull him at least a Super Super Rare Grade reward.

Thinking of this, he spun the remaining two Gacha Tickets.

Ding!

[Congratulations, Host. You have pulled a Super Rare Grade Gacha Card (Skill): Phantom Mirage (SR).]
