Chapter 14: Ch 14: Ownership

Enzo took in a deep breath...It was necessary.

On one side, he was disappointed and slightly motivated seeing his bare slots in the system interface. He had no techniques or skills to speak of. A simple observation of his stats would make him deem weak.

But then, they would look at the other section of his stats. Something Enzo was looking at with an intense look. Inwardly though, he was terribly confused.

Heir of the Goddess of Time?

Blessed of the Blood Moon?

The latter affiliation was still understandable. Afterall this was the same blessing that Shogun Bloodaxe had received when he was still in his own teenage years.

"That would also explain why I feel a bit too energetic under the moonlight." As if wanting to experiment on his theory, he walked deeper into the shadows cast by the dead tree.

And just like that, with no moonlight in contact with him, Enzo returned back to his normal state. The passive buff was gone.

To someone else, the buff would seem pretty much useless. But Enzo knew of things that they didn’t. The main power spike comes during the nights of the blood moon, that is, during the full moon.

Even now, the crescent moon contained a light pinkish glow. During full night, the moon would look like it had been painted with blood. Unlike the 28 days of lunar cycle on Earth, the moon here took 123 days to complete the transition from a new moon to full moon.

And for plot convenience, the author had made every year a leap year, that is, every year here was of 366 days instead of the standard 365 on Earth.

Enzo was looking forward to the next Blood Moon where he could finally see what type of temporary power spike he would receive. He could only hope it would be at the scale of Thorgar’s who receives the buff of ascending to the next physique on every Blood Moon albeit temporarily. Additionally, he was also able to control all types of animals around him provided their Mana Core wasn’t of a higher rank than his.

So while Enzo was definitely surprised on being blessed by the Blood Moon, he wasn’t that shocked.

Atleast not as shocked at finding out he was also the "heir of the Goddess of Time."

"No wonder She severed my connection with the World. I guess I am probably being protected?"

But he didn’t question that further. For all he knew, She could be listening to his words. And he had no wish to offend Her, even by accident.

He planned to read through the rest of his stats and their descriptions before moving out of the place. But before he could do that, the dead tree shook, startling him in the process.

He took a few steps backward as the ground around rumbled and the barks of the trees cracked open.

[The death of an Ancient Tree has forced a pre-matured Gate to appear in its place. Formation in process...]

A void appeared at the centre of the tree as it started swallowing the remains of the tree from the inside. Branches twisted, twigs snapped and the crimson leaves crunched as they were all sucked inside the swirling void which grew larger and larger as seconds passed.

The tree was completely uprooted as after a while, only a dense void stood in its place. It appeared highly densed and was expanding in size, occupying the empty space in the air. A distinctive rustling sound echoed from the entrance of this newly formed Gate.

[A Gate(Incomplete) has been formed successfully!]

[Rank: F]

[Monsters: Slimes(First Floor), Wolves(Second Floor)]

Even though the system provided him with the vital information of the types of beasts lurking inside, it was unable to brief him on the types of slimes or wolves present. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ

This had been a flaw Enzo had noticed whilst he was still a reader. And it would seem that the tranfer of ownership of the System did nothing to change that.

As for whether he was entering the dungeon or not, that wasn’t even a question. A person who had just awakened his mana core wouldn’t simply level up by lazing around. A F-ranked Gate was exactly the resource for that.

’But before that...’

Enzo brought up his System screen yet again and cocentrated on the text reading "Mana Core". A pop up rose from the text and Enzo read it out.

[Choose a pathway to level up the Sphere of the Eight Cardinals:

(I) Kill (II)Cultivate]

[Please note that once selected, this cannot be changed.]

Providing a small smile and without any hesitation, he clicked on the first option.

Kill.

Not because he necessarily liked the act of murdering but because of the imminent rewards he would have been deprived of otherwise.

[Kill registered: The Great Old One]

[Reward: Mana Vision, +100 life fragments]

A grin crept up at his lips as he received yet another climbing stone meant for the protagonist. At this point, he was randomly stealing Thorgar’s resources and really halting his progress, even though the latter wasn’t at all his intention.

But before the smile could properly lock onto his face...

[Kill registered: Steven Grace]

[Reward: +1 fragments]

[Kill registered: Cassius...]

[Reward: +1 fragments]

The kill notifications kept on continuing and a look of clarity flattened Enzo’s frown.

"That’s really forgetful of me. How couid I forget the few Windsor men I had sniped out?"

Overall, Enzo was able to collect 121 fragments in total. And as he summoned his System back, he noticed two new cells have been created.

One of them was "Total fragments" which now read 121. And the other named "Core fragments" which was sitting with a spectacular zero.

A light smile playing on his lips, Enzo commanded the system to transfer all the fragments to the core fragments. Immediately, he felt his mana core stir a little as a powerful force strengthened the core...and him.

"This feeling is quite... exhilarating." He muttered, breathing in the fresh air.

Not willing to waste any time further, he was about to step inside the gate to the F-ranked dungeon when suddenly, more notifications erupted at the corner of his vision.

He quickly summoned the runes to see what it was about. A look of shock took over his features as he read the first notification.

[Kill registered: Phillips Carter]

[Rewards: +1 fragments]

Enzo felt his throat go dry. He recognised the name.

Phillips Carter.

A butler who had served the Donnoman household and was their right hand...in dealing with drugs.

But that wasn’t what was frying Enzo right now. Rather it was the fact that Phillips Carter happened to be his last victim...from Earth.

Gulping down the anxious feeling, he looked at the other kill notifications. And just as he feared...they were all his victims.

His kidnappers. Every single dealer that had been associated with them...

Each of them were listed in the notifications. All of them his victims.

Enzo couldn’t help out a sigh, as if surrendering to his fate.

"Don’t tell me this Goddess was stalking my vengeful life as well."
