Chapter 12: Ch 12: The Aspirants
He had read the entirety of volume one...
He had witnessed - to be more accurate, read Thorgar forming his Unique Mana Core...
And that was just the beginning of volume 1...
So why was it that even after reading the rest of the volume, Enzo didn’t hear a single word about the Aspirants?
According to the system, he was the ninth person in the entire world to form an Unique Mana Core. And having one of them automatically made you an Aspirant or so the Voice of the World wanted him to believe.
’...So what stopped Thorgar from becoming an Aspirant?’
He didn’t even entertain the idea that he could have missed out that detail. As much as he was ashamed to admit it, he had reread that single volume so many times that it would genuinely be a "skill issue" on his part if he failed to remember any details or events from the book. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
Introduction of Aspirants would have been a massive plot device. And Enzo was sure he would never have forgotten it even if he were to read the novel for one time only.
"So who are these new variables?"
Enzo felt as if his perspective of seeing this world have suddenly widened. If Volume 1 had stuck to the Windsor Empire and the Great Forest only, the introduction of these Aspirants changed that view.
It was highly improbable that all of the other eight aspirants were present in the Windsor empire. Had that been the case, the empire would probably have been soaring high above the skies and heavens.
But for better or worse, that wasn’t the case.
While it was certainly a powerful empire and a rising power at that, it was still graded A- by the Octagram, an international council, neutral to any political move or alliance and responsible for establishing official gradings - based on power, health index, corruption index and so on. Oftentimes, they published reports on certain kingdoms or the demonic and monster territories.
In layman terms, they were a hybrid of journalism and the UN from back on Earth, except for the the fact that this Octagram had only eight members - none of them being representatives of any reign.
Other than the Octagram’s grading, the Windsor Empire happened to be an inheritance based ruling power, that is, the hierarchy was rigid and monarchy established. If a ruler died, their bloodline were to hold the throne.
This was unlike the power based empires, wherein upon the death of their ruler, only the strongest citizen gets to be the new ruler.
And maybe not so surprisingly, each and every S or higher graded empires across the world of Exodus were power based empires.
’Heck, I didn’t even know the name of this world until today...’ He slowly felt what the author had missed out now were starting to appear before him as surprises.
He would be lying if he said he wasn’t getting a little excited as well.
And thus, with high anticipation, he tapped on the shimmering keylock. The whole screen vibrated like wavelets at his touch.
At that moment, the interface of the screen changed and a chatbox took its place.
An empty one. With the group name set as "The Aspirants".
Instantly, a text appeared on the otherwise empty screen.
[Sixth Aspirant: A new member? Damn that’s the third one in just half a century. Are Unique Mana Cores that easy to find nowadays?]
[Fourth Aspirant: Three in half a century? Are we seriously forgetting that he is actually the second guy to join this year? Rivera’s appearance was still normal. I mean, come on old hag, you were the sixth member. And you received your unique mana core two centuries before Rivera. It’s this one and the other newbie who are the anomalies - appearing only fifty years after Rivera.]
[Sixth Aspirant: You think something might be happening or...are these two just an exception? Also did you just call me--]
But she never got to finish her complaint as the fourth aspirant interrupted her so fast like his life depended on it.
[Fourth Aspirant: Who knows, have to watch out for a while. Presumably for another year. If someone appears, we need to start moving into the matter. But for now...I believe we have someone to greet no?]
The last sentence stopped the sixth aspirant, who had been typing out something too furiously. Then after a brief pause, an excited message greeted Enzo.
[Sixth Aspirant: I totally forgot!! Hello, hello newbie. You must be so confused seeing our giberish...but for now, don’t think much of it. You, however, tell us something about yourself. Maybe your name, age...oh by the way, you are a boy right?]
Having absorbed away the information he thought he could be needing, he typed.
[Ninth Aspirant: Hi everyone. You can call me Enzo. I turned eighteen few months back and yes, I am a boy.]
The reason he didn’t mention he was a nameless was because that was information which could be used to locate him easily. From what he knew, only the barbarians of the Great Forest followed the custom of treating name as an achievement - the rest were just nameless. It wouldn’t be thus that hard for the other eight aspirants to find his approximate location.
[Sixth Aspirant: Aww look at how well spoken he is, unlike a certain brute. Anyways, you can call me Lilith.]
[Fourth Aspirant: You are quite lucky Raymond isn’t online right now or he wouldn’t like to hear your small compliment...But welcome to the club, kid. I am Leomord. Though you can call me Leo as well. Sounds better.]
Leomord then typed a second time and informed him of the other members. freewebnøvel.com
[Fourth Aspirant: The First Aspirant is named Marco, the third aspirant is Raymond...yeah, yhe same guy Lilith complimented. You know me and Lilith already. Rivera is the seventh, the fifth is Rena...and as for the eighth aspirant, even we don’t know her name. She is quite adamant on protecting her privacy. ]
[Sixth Aspirant: She is Enzo’s age only right?]
Enzo felt a missing piece that they hadn’t covered. Just as he was about to raise that question, his corner of the eyes caught something alarming.
The system interface through which the Voice of the World communicated with him had changed. Red light covered the entire screen and it blinked repeatedly, just like a blaring alarm.
