Chapter 32: Greyford Plains
Charles dashed forwards, faster than any of the soldiers on either side of him.
Since Charlotte was within a kilometre radius of him, he was buffed by the Author’s Aura.
This made him twice as agile, powerful, and durable as he already was.
The knights on either side of him looked over, momentarily taking their attention off the enemies in front of them.
How is an adept so fast? Does he have some sort of class linked to speed?
But when they checked his class, they couldn’t see anything except the word "Knight". Charlotte had made sure that no one could see Charles’ true class except for himself.
Meanwhile, Charles’ eyes were focused on the enemy. The men wore black armour with white lines running along the seams.
A wave of cavalry were heading towards them first. Hundreds of armoured men on armoured horses approached, holding lances that were almost two metres long.
I’m sorry, horses. This isn’t anything personal.

There were less than fifty metres between the two armies.
At any moment now, the soldiers on the front row of the Silverblessed Army would be cut down by the cavalry units.
Then...
"Horseriding isn’t allowed here!"
A single sentence rang throughout the armies.
It couldn’t be heard by many, but it didn’t need to be.
The law had already been made.
Suddenly, the men who were on their horses leapt to the sides or backwards, tumbling from their horses and sliding across the muddy grass.
The Silverblessed Army paused for just a second, confused as to what the hell was going on.
The battlefield went slightly silent, except for the sound of horse hooves scattering in numerous directions.
"Don’t waste this opportunity!" Charles’ voice suddenly sounded over the silence.
Every soldier immediately sprang back into motion.
The Blackrain cavalry soldiers who had fallen to the ground remained there for a while. Due to their heavy armour, they struggled to get to their feet.
And since they had left their infantry unit behind, this created a great opening.
The Silverblessed forces took advantage, led by Charles.
They slid their weapons and spears into the gaps in the enemies’ armour, reaping their souls with ease.
Charles didn’t even need to worry about finding gaps in the armour. His Red Dragonscale Longsword was sharp enough to cleave and pierce right through it.
He used his speed to take out the enemies who had managed to make it to their feet.
There was one enemy in particular who stood out amongst the others. He was a tall brute of a man in black armour, who had managed to draw his shortsword.
Charles closed the distance between them in a second and swung his blade sideways.
However, the knight managed to coat his armour in a thick blue spectral magic.
When the Red Dragonscale Longsword struck it, it made a slight cut but failed to penetrate.
The weapon vibrated off the armour, and Charles was thrown off balance.
Since the brute was wearing a helmet, he couldn’t see his facial expression. However, the man let out a deep laugh as he twirled his sword.
"That won’t work, little adept man. Haven’t you ever faced a tank class before?"
「Gregory Bane」
Grade: Veteran [3rd Grade]
Potential: Elite [4th Grade]
Class: Tank

So that’s what you are.
The brute charged once again. His movements were slow and could easily be read without Charles even having to use his Read Ahead spell.
He stepped backwards and allowed the man’s blade to cut through the air and miss.
Then he stepped back in and sliced again at the same place.
This time, the blue spectral armour began to fade slightly.
Charles knew that if he continued fighting the man, he would eventually be able to break through his defences, however, he couldn’t waste time.
If he did, that would give the infantry the opportunity to catch up.
So, he prepared his spell again.

"Are you scared, little man?" Gregory the Tank said.
Charles was hardly listening.
It was ready to bring forth his next law, but he needed to be careful.
Applying laws to so many people at once required a lot of mana.
Since he had already prohibited the use of horses, he was feeling slightly drained.
His next law had to be simple enough to leave him in a state that allowed him to continue fighting.
So, he came to his decision.
"Predominantly black armour is not allowed to be worn."
Suddenly, great fatigue crashed into Charles, almost making him drop his weapon and fall to his knees.
The law had taken more out of him than he expected.
Could it be that directing specific laws towards my enemy that don’t effect allies is more tasking? freёweɓnovel.com
When he looked up, he saw a phenomenon that couldn’t be explained.
All of the Blackrain forces who were wearing black steel armour had suddenly been stripped of it. The armour impossibly fell to the ground and off their bodies, as though it no longer fit them.
The cavalry units and even the approaching infantrymen looked at one another in complete bewilderment.
They were now only dressed in the chainmail they wore beneath their plates.
Those who wore black leather armour were stripped down to their undergarments.
They began to retreat, but they weren’t able to.
As soon as the Silverblessed forces saw this opening, they took it.
Blackrain men were being cut down everywhere, whilst only handfuls of Silverblessed soldiers were losing their lives.
Charles remained on the frontline despite his fatigue, cutting down as many men as he could with his sword.
Not long afterwards, whoever was commanding the Blackrain forces issued a retreat.
The enemy finally managed to escape, leaving their dead allies on the ground.
Charles wanted to chase them into their camp, but Prince Cain issued the order for the knights to retreat and return.
For a moment, they all stood on the battlefield, out of breath and surrounded by corpses.
A single thought was on all of their minds.
How on earth did we survive?
Everyone’s eyes naturally landed on the solo adventurer who had charged the frontlines, yet managed to stay alive.
They had a feeling that he had something to do with it.
