Chapter 30: Sharing A Tent

After all the tents for the soldiers had been erected on their side of the battlefield, everyone headed inside to make sure the spaces were to their liking.

At the centre of the army camp were all the important tents.

Prince Cain’s tent was directly at the centre, and so was Princess Charlotte’s.

Surrounding theirs were other people of importance, such as generals and any noble knights who had joined the battle.

The sun was setting, and there was no sign of the battle starting just yet, so Charles took the opportunity to find his own tent.

He ended up outside Charlotte’s tent, and before he could open the flaps, a voice called out to him.

"What do you think you’re doing, sir?"

Charles turned and saw a young general sitting with a group of armoured knights around a fireplace, drinking.

The fire lit their faces, showing their hard expressions.

Charles paused and turned to face them.

"Is there a problem?"

"There is," the young general said. "As far as I know, you aren’t married to the princess yet. Entering her tent without being invited inside is a crime."

The knights grunted in approval.

Charles almost laughed at what he was hearing, but instead he just raised a brow.

"Who even are you?"

The words made the general’s cheeks flush red with anger. He rose to his full height.

One of the knights spoke from the sidelines.

"You don’t know him? That’s General Isaac, the future Supreme Commander. You’ll be respectful when you speak to him, and you’ll follow his lead in battle."

General Isaac was a man with an annoying-looking noble face. He was tall and slim. He wielded a great axe.

Charles took the time to focus on the crystal floating above the man’s head.

「Isaac Katz」

Grade: Veteran [3rd Grade]

Potential: Master [5th Grade]

Class: Battle Mage

"..."

Charles broke out into quiet laughter.

This seemed to be enough to anger the young general.

The man rose to his feet, standing at his full height, which easily towered over the laughing man in front of him.

He puffed up his chest, trying to make himself seem larger, and his arm reached for the weapon on his back.

At this point, people had noticed the commotion.

They were looking out of their tents to see what was going on.

Charles looked up at the man, whose face was filled with rage.

Meanwhile, he never stopped smiling.

I actually remember this guy from the novel. Hasn’t he been stuck at the Veteran Rank for years, and wasn’t he divorced by his wife because of it?

How did such a man even become a general? Is the Silverblessed Kingdom that desperate?

Isaac Katz lifted his great axe from his back and held it menacingly.

"What’s stopping me from cutting you down right now? Her Majesty doesn’t need a man like you anyway."

"Oh, so are you suggesting that she needs a man like you, who can’t even advance to Elite?" Charles responded smugly.

Everyone’s eyes widened once they heard that.

They all knew it was a weak point for the general.

The man was just about to lift his axe and swing it, and at the same time, Charles activated his spell.

Just as he was about to rewrite the laws, the sound of tent flaps opening stopped everyone in their tracks.

"What is going on?"

Everyone stopped and turned towards the soft voice.

There, standing at the entrance of the tent, was Princess Charlotte.

Her white hair had been tied up into a bun, giving everyone a better look at her perfectly crafted face. She was dressed in her all-blue suit of armour with golden linings. freёwebnovel.com

One hand was placed on her hip as her silver eyes scanned across the scene.

They fell on General Isaac Katz, and the man stiffened.

"Y-Your Majesty..." he said whilst putting away his weapon. "This man was trying to enter your tent, and I was just explaining the protocol to him. I know that Prince Cain wouldn’t be happy if he saw this man attempting to—" freewёbnoνel.com

"Why would my brother have any say on the matter?" Princess Charlotte said, catching everyone off guard.

Isaac’s eyes went wide as he stuttered.

"I-I just thought that since—"

"This is my husband, General," Charlotte said whilst stepping forward and grabbing hold of Charles’ hand. "He can enter my tent whenever he pleases."

Afterwards, without saying anything else, Charlotte dragged Charles into her tent and closed the flaps behind her.

"..."

At that moment, it felt like the entire camp fell silent.

Everyone could only stare at the scene, completely stunned.

Especially General Isaac.

One of his knights stepped over to him and placed a hand on the man’s shoulder.

"Come on, Isaac. Let’s just keep drinking."

But Isaac was still unable to move.

He had known Charlotte for a long time.

She had never shown any interest in men or relationships.

Now...

He let out a deep sigh and returned to his seat with his men.

Maybe I should try and solo Elurion Tower too, if it has this effect on women... Hmph!

...

Inside Charlotte’s tent...

After Charles was pulled inside the tent, he couldn’t help but laugh at the look General Isaac had on his face after what Charlotte had said.

Charlotte turned to face him and crossed her arms beneath her chest.

"You should try not to cause too much trouble in the camp," she said seriously.

Charles shrugged his shoulders, but still wore that mischievous smile.

"I’ll try my best, but they don’t seem to like me too much," he said.

"It’s to be expected. In their eyes, a stranger has managed to steal the hand of their princess. Most men will—"

Charlotte’s words were suddenly cut off as she broke out into a violent fit of coughing.

Charles rushed over to her as she started to lose her balance.

He guided her down onto a makeshift seat, but the coughing never stopped.

"C-Charlotte, are you okay?"

Then he noticed something in the hand she had been coughing into.

It had been speckled with droplets of blood and blue mana.
