Chapter 16: Siblings
The three kingdoms are coming here?
The Blackrain Kingdom.
The Goldhaven Kingdom.
The Scarlet Kingdom.
Including the Silverblessed Kingdom, these were the four kingdoms that made up the Eastern Continent. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
He was well aware that these three kingdoms had formed a coalition to take down the Silverblessed Kingdom. After all, it was where the novel had been left off.
Still, one of the main plot points of the novel was that they were afraid to come to Elurion, the capital of the kingdom.
It was a city that was supposed to be cursed, and the former home of dragons.
They were supposed to be afraid of this place.
"Are you certain?" Charles had to ask.
Charlotte tapped her hand on her notebook.
"It’s been written. Unfortunately, I’m more than certain."
Charles found himself clenching his fists in anger. He wanted to know who this man was that was bringing so many problems to the world.
If he did not know, then who could he direct his anger towards?
Suddenly, two warm hands reached out and wrapped themselves around Charles’ fists.
When he looked down and saw that Charlotte was cradling his clenched fists in her soft hands, he naturally relaxed.
His hands opened, and Charlotte kept them in hers for a few seconds before pulling away.
"Anger is what he wants us to feel. We must stay calm and think about things smartly."
Charles’ mind and body immediately relaxed.
He let out a sigh.
"You have to tell me more about this villain. Otherwise, I don’t know what I’m fighting against."
Charlotte’s face showed slight discomfort and annoyance. This wasn’t directed towards Charles, but something else.
She clearly wanted to tell him everything, but for some reason, she couldn’t. Not yet.
She bit down on her lip hard and tried to think of information that she could share.
"He" has a similar class to myself. Yet, his rank is higher than mine. This allows him to change events in the world and find out information that he should never know. He knows all the intricacies inside the novel, and can also create new ones himself."
The more that Charlotte explained, the more helpless their situation seemed.
This is only more reason for me to get stronger, whilst also helping Charlotte return to full strength.
As he had this thought, Charles suddenly remembered something that Charlotte had told him a while back.
She had mentioned that this villain had found her notebook and written himself into the novel.
Didn’t that mean...?
"Do you know this man in the real world?"
Charlotte’s face took on a sad expression, and she found herself looking down at the floor.
Eventually, she nodded her head.
"Yes... He is my brother."
"!"
Charles was stunned into complete silence.
All he could do was stand there and stare at the woman with wide eyes.
Her brother? This villain is her brother!
The more he thought about it, the more it made sense.
In order for someone to get hold of Charlotte’s notebook, they had to be someone close to her.
Who was more suitable than a sibling?
"Me and him were close back on Earth, which only makes his actions more confusing. I’ve met him inside this novel once, which was when he told me his dreams. I tried to kill him there, but he..."
Charlotte’s voice trailed off, but her mouth stayed open.
It was like she wanted to continue speaking but couldn’t.
Charles reached out a hand to touch her shoulder.
"Charlotte?"
"Cough, cough"
More blood and mana flew from Charlotte’s mouth as she coughed into the back of her hand.
It was an alarming sight for him to see.
Is this... Is this because she tried to talk about her brother?
Charles placed his hands on Charlotte’s shoulders, attempting to guide her back into bed.
"Don’t tell me anything else, just rest," he said, and she obeyed. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
Her head lay on the pillow. Her eyes were half shut.
Despite the situation, she managed to smile slightly.
"But I can’t rest forever. I have to come with you, so that we can escape the tower."
As Charlotte spoke, Charles was busy sorting through the items held within his body.
"Yeah, that can wait. For now, I’ll continue clearing these floors and making my way to the bottom. Along the way, I’ll find the rest of the seven items on your list. After that, you can think about joining me."
Charlotte frowned slightly.
"But that is another 100 floors?" she said in a small voice.
Charles smiled slightly and shrugged his shoulders.
"100 floors is nothing. Not with the class you’ve given me."
The author’s cheeks blushed a slight red.
"And besides... I think I can reach the next grade."
Charles withdrew the spirit of the Veteran Ember Leech that he had found after slaying the Scorching Greatworm.
It appeared in his hands in the shape of a small condensed orb. Once placed in the mouth or inhaled, it would become essence.
This spirit orb was red, with orange and white swirls floating around it like ink through water.
Charlotte sat up slightly and looked at the item.
"Is that an Adept Spirit?"
Charles shook his head.
"No. A Veteran Spirit. But I don’t have many other choices. Waiting for an Adept Spirit could take a while, and I don’t want to feel this discomfort for much longer."
She had no objections, but she still wore a slight look of worry on her face.
There was a high chance that he would suffer mutations whilst consuming the spirit.
It’s fine... Maybe I can secretly remove them from his system using the notebook. It will use a lot of strength, but—
"And don’t even think about trying to remove them from my system using the notebook. This is a risk I’m willing to take alone!"
"..."
Charlotte blinked a few times as she watched Charles toss the spirit into his mouth.
