Chapter 13: A Great Wife
"..."
Charles stood there in stunned silence for a few moments, holding the note in his hand.
Then, he looked around the room again.
You’re telling me that she used her powers to make all of this?
I know she’s slowly gaining her powers back, but isn’t this too much?
Charles made his way back over to the pot of food and had a small taste with a spoon that Charlotte had made for him. freёwebnovel.com
It was perfectly seasoned and full of rich flavours.
Delicious!
Afterwards, he made his way over to the bathtub and used his hands to test the water. It was perfectly warm and had flowers floating atop the water.
As he lifted one in his hand, he realised that he recognised it.
「Whiteleaf Flower」
This was the main ingredient used in sleeping potions. If you bathed in the right amount, it would help clear your mind and put you in a relaxed state.

Charles walked over to Charlotte’s sleeping body.
He knew that she couldn’t hear him, but spoke anyway.
"You... You’re a great wife."
...
Charles spent the next hour or so enjoying the meal, bathing himself, and changing his clothes.
He was now dressed in a long black robe with a white buttoned undershirt. His black hair had been tied into a bun, with a few strands falling over his handsome face.
Afterwards, he looked over at his bed. He had piled all of the parts he had harvested from the wolf onto it.
I know that you made that bed for me to sleep in, but I’ve been absorbing so much effort that I don’t need to sleep right now.
Besides... this gives me more time to help you.
With his makeshift Dragon Scale blade in hand, Charles prepared to head back down into the tower.
So far, he had cleared floors 99, 98, and 97. He did not know when the tower would reset, so he would need to acquire as many of the items as he could before he had to face the new bosses of those floors again.
His hope was that, in this next run, he could clear enough floors to gain more than one item from Charlotte’s list.
...
Charles descended through the floors and eventually opened the door to the 96th floor.
Immediately, he was met with a great change in temperature. He regretted wearing a black robe, as his body became sweaty.
He looked ahead of him, only to find that he had been placed in a small desert.
In the top corner of the room was a makeshift sun that produced the heat and bright light. When Charles looked at it, he had to shield his eyes.
So hot...
Other than the sand and the sun, the room didn’t have much going on. It was completely silent, so all he could hear was his own thoughts.
The sand was not completely flat. It rose and fell in some parts, creating sand dunes.
As he walked over and stood at the top of one, he wiped sweat from his forehead again and laughed.
"Heh, it reminds me of that one movie... I feel like Paul Atr—"
Charles’ wistful words were cut off as a great rumbling suddenly sounded beneath him. He struggled to maintain his balance.
Immediately, he started to regret speaking. His words seemed to have attracted something.
He gripped his Dragon Scale tightly and looked around, following the sound of the rumbling. He suspected that, at any moment, the boss of the floor would appear.
Then, it did.
Across the floor from him, a giant worm suddenly emerged from one of the sand dunes. Its skin was red, with a thousand different tiny mouths spread across its body and one gaping mouth on its face that resembled a cave.
The worm let out a sickening screech as it opened its mouth, showing one hundred teeth that dripped with saliva.
It dipped its head downwards to stare at Charles, despite the fact that it had no eyes.
Charles gulped as his body forced him to be afraid. But then, a smile spread across his face.
This...
Not only was this a creature that possessed one of the items on Charlotte’s list, but it was also a creature he was familiar with.
A Greatworm. But this specific kind was a Scorching Greatworm.
They did not need to live in the sand. In fact, they appeared in many places in the world of The Fourth Apocalypse, as long as one condition was met.
The place had to have a high temperature.

Without giving any notice, the Scorching Greatworm suddenly shot forward towards Charles, sending sand scattering about the place. frёeωebɳovel.com
Charles didn’t freeze when he watched the cave-like mouth approaching him.
This was because he had already seen how the events would play out through his Read Ahead spell.
This allowed him to time his next spell perfectly, using the duo of editor spells currently in his possession.
The perfect combination.

He took in a deep breath and shouted.
"Artificial heat is not allowed here!"
Suddenly, the sun in the corner of the room was blotted out, and the room turned black.
At the same time, Charles stepped backwards out of range of the incoming strike, but the strike never came.
Instead, he heard the sound of flesh and skin crackling up.
The giant worm, which had previously been about to attack, suddenly paused as it noticed the immediate drop in temperature.
Its body could no longer survive in those conditions.
It tried to fight against this, rubbing its body against the sand to try and find any residual heat, but it didn’t work.
One minute later, the Greatworm had succumbed to its wounds.
Just like that, another boss had been slain.
