Chapter 48: End of Beast tide

{You’re asking the obvious question here. You already know they possess endless stamina and feel no pain. More importantly, they’re your Deadborns now. They can coordinate perfectly with one another.}

Liya sounded amused by Nova’s surprise.

{So it was only natural they would eventually kill it. The Chimera wasn’t some invincible creature. It lacked intelligence, couldn’t coordinate effectively, and unlike your Deadborns, it didn’t possess limitless endurance. The longer the battle dragged on, the more the advantage shifted in their favor.}

Nova nodded as he listened. The explanation made perfect sense. He had been underestimating the Deadborns.

Until now, he had mostly viewed them as powerful summons, but the battle against the Chimera had made him realize something important. His class wasn’t merely strong—it was legendary. The ability to create loyal warriors that never tired, never feared death, and could grow stronger alongside him was simply absurd.

A flicker of anticipation appeared in his eyes as he thought about the new traits he might have gained from his class reaching Level 2.

Unfortunately, now wasn’t the time to check. The hidden quest still remained incomplete. The city was safe, but the Blood Moon Conspiracy was still unresolved.

Pushing those thoughts aside, Nova ordered the Deadborns to return to the battlefield and help eliminate the remaining demonic beasts. After participating in the Chimera’s death, many of them had leveled up considerably, making the cleanup process even easier.

Only the Hydra remained. Nova decided not to send it back. Its sheer size and overwhelming aura would likely frighten many of the lower-level warriors.

Once the others departed, Nova stepped toward the Chimera’s corpse and extended his hand.

Darkness immediately surged from his body.

Black shadow-like liquid poured over the Chimera’s corpse, covering every wound and every inch of flesh. The battlefield grew eerily silent as the shadows continued to spread. Purple patterns began swirling throughout the darkness, creating an unsettling sight.

A few moments later, the shadows started moving. The Chimera’s body trembled. Then, slowly, the twenty-meter-tall beast rose once more.

Its entire body had transformed into living darkness. Purple markings swirled across its shadowy form like flowing currents, while its eyes glowed with an eerie violet light. Although its appearance remained largely unchanged, the creature now radiated an unmistakable aura of death and obedience.

The newly created Deadborn Chimera lowered its head before Nova. Absolute loyalty shone within its glowing eyes. Nova smiled beneath his mask.

"Both of you, come inside."

The Hydra and Chimera immediately obeyed. Their bodies dissolved into streams of darkness before merging into Nova’s shadow and disappearing completely.

With that done, Nova returned to the enormous crater created during his battle with the Earth Dragon. The remains of the colossal beast still lay scattered across the devastated landscape.

Nova extended his hand once again.

The familiar black shadows surged forward, covering the dragon’s remains. Darkness wrapped around the scattered flesh as purple patterns spread across the massive body. The process took longer than usual due to the creature’s immense size, but eventually the shadows settled.

The Earth Dragon rose once more. A towering dragon of darkness and swirling purple markings. The colossal creature lowered its head before its monarch.

Nova gave a satisfied nod.

"You too."

The Earth Dragon’s body dissolved into darkness and merged into Nova’s shadow, joining the rest of his growing legion.

...

Back at Frostholme’s frontlines, Theodore finally cut down the last demonic beast standing before him and let out a long breath of relief. The battle that had raged throughout the night was finally coming to an end. Behind him, Rodrick, Commander Markus, and the other knight captains had also finished their battles and were resting wherever they could find space.

Unlike Nova, their mana and stamina weren’t limitless. Hours of continuous fighting had pushed all of them close to their limits. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com

Theodore slowly lowered his sword and gazed toward the distant battlefield where Nova had fought the Earth Dragon. Even from here, the enormous crater was clearly visible, a permanent scar left upon the land.

"Who is he...?" Theodore muttered quietly.

His thoughts drifted back to the black-robed figure. "Is he a demon? If he is, then why would a demon help us?"

One question after another surfaced in his mind, yet none of them had an answer. The more he thought about it, the more mysterious the Slaughter Monarch became. Eventually, Theodore shook his head and sat down to recover some of his strength.

As he did, he noticed the remaining demonic beasts being hunted down by the strange shadow creatures that had appeared throughout the battlefield.

The sight only deepened his confusion.

Not far away on the right side of the battlefield, Maria sat atop a pile of demonic beast corpses. Her armor was stained with blood, and exhaustion was visible on her face despite her composed expression. Nearby, Tharuk was helping tend to the wounded Beastfolk warriors under his command.

Yet Maria’s attention wasn’t on the injured.

Her gaze remained fixed on the distant crater as countless thoughts raced through her mind. "Who is this man...?" Her beautiful face, stained with blood from battle, showed a rare hint of uncertainty.

"Is he working for them...?" The thought appeared in her mind before she immediately rejected it. "No... that’s impossible."

"Quite the miracle, isn’t it?"

Tharuk’s voice suddenly broke her thoughts.

The Wolf-Kin warrior stood beside her with a relieved smile on his face as he gazed over the devastated battlefield. Around them, the surviving Holy Knights and Beastfolk warriors were finally taking a moment to rest after enduring one of the longest nights of their lives.

Maria followed his gaze. The battlefield was filled with destruction, corpses, blood, and craters. Yet despite all of that...Frostholme still stood.

And for many of the survivors, that alone felt like a miracle.

....

Similar scenes were unfolding on the left side of the battlefield. The adventurers and mercenaries who had survived the night were finally taking a moment to rest. Many sat directly on the blood-soaked ground, too exhausted to care about appearances.

Nearby, medics moved from one wounded fighter to another, treating injuries as quickly as possible. The sounds of pain, relief, and exhausted laughter echoed throughout the area.

William Ashwood and the other two guild leaders stood silently among their forces. Their bodies were covered in wounds and dried blood, and exhaustion was evident on their faces. However, none of them seemed interested in discussing the countless mysteries that had occurred during the battle. For now, simply surviving was enough.

There would be plenty of time later to think about the masked man known as the Slaughter Monarch.

Meanwhile, in the central section of the battlefield, Edward sat among several knight captains while resting against a damaged barricade. His armor was stained with blood, and numerous scratches covered its surface. Looking across the devastated battlefield, he still found it difficult to believe that Frostholme had survived.

The beast tide had been overwhelming. The appearance of the three Rank A beasts should have been the end. Yet somehow, they were still alive. Edward slowly turned his gaze toward the rear lines and couldn’t help but think of his son.

"Hope Nova is alright, I didn’t even get the chance to see him."

Little did he know that the person responsible for turning the entire battle around was the very son he was worrying about.

Not far away, near the rear defensive line that had remained relatively safe throughout most of the battle, the younger generation displayed a variety of reactions. For many of them, this had been their first true battlefield experience.

Some sat in silence, their faces pale as they stared at the countless corpses surrounding them. The horrors of war had left a deep impression on their minds, and several were visibly traumatized by what they had witnessed.

Others, however, reacted differently. Instead of fear, excitement burned within their eyes.

After witnessing powerful warriors clash against terrifying monsters and seeing the mysterious Slaughter Monarch reshape the battlefield with overwhelming strength, they felt inspired rather than frightened.

For them, this battle had shown just how vast the world truly was.

And many silently vowed to become stronger so that one day they too could stand at the forefront of such battles.

Among them, Rieka and Asia sat silently, staring at the battlefield. The

fighting had almost ended, and the first rays of sunrise were beginning to appear on the horizon.

Suddenly—

WHOOSH!
