Chapter 47: System Quest completed

Nova knew he needed to end the battle quickly.

The sun was drawing closer to the horizon, and he still had the Chimera to deal with afterward. Taking a deep breath, he gathered all the mana he could into his right fist.

At the same time, he infused it with a tiny trace of Chaotic Energy and reinforced everything with crackling lightning. The space around his fist began to distort slightly as an overwhelming aura condensed into a single point.

The Earth Dragon immediately sensed the danger. Before it could react, Nova activated Voidborne Telekinesis.

The invisible force descended upon the colossal beast and slammed it into the ground. The Earth Dragon struggled furiously, but its heavily wounded body no longer possessed the strength to resist effectively. Its enormous weight caused the land beneath it to crack and sink as it was pinned down.

A smirk appeared beneath Nova’s mask. "I don’t need a weapon when these hands are enough." Lightning danced around his clenched fist.

"Though I would prefer a sword. It’s more my style." He glanced at the battered remains of his blade lying in the distance.

"But we can’t always have what we want." His gaze returned to the Earth Dragon. The beast roared in pain and rage, desperately trying to free itself from the telekinetic restraint.

Nova shook his head slightly.

"Sorry, buddy." For a brief moment, there was almost a hint of respect in his voice. "If only you hadn’t decided to attack the city." His eyes suddenly shone with a brilliant purple radiance.

The next moment, Nova leaped into the sky.

CRACKLE!

Lightning exploded around his body as he accelerated downward. His enhanced agility and monstrous strength combined into a terrifying force, turning him into a living meteor descending from the heavens.

The Earth Dragon’s eyes widened.

BOOOOOOOOM!!!

Nova’s fist slammed directly into its head.

The impact was catastrophic.

The dragon’s skull shattered beneath the overwhelming force as a devastating shockwave erupted in every direction. The ground collapsed instantly, forming a massive crater around the point of impact. Layers of earth were torn apart and blasted outward as the shockwave continued expanding across the battlefield.

It didn’t stop there. The force traveled for several kilometers, all the way to Frostholme’s city gates.

Countless weaker warriors and surviving beasts were thrown off their feet by the pressure alone. Some were sent tumbling across the ground, unable to resist the aftermath of the attack.

Fortunately, the Deadborns and stornger warriors of Frostholme reacted immediately.

Many of them moved to shield nearby warriors, preventing unnecessary injuries from the shockwave generated by Nova’s attack.

When the dust finally began to settle, silence spread across the battlefield. At the center of the enormous crater stood Nova.

Beneath him lay the Earth Dragon.

Motionless.

The Earth Dragon’s body had been completely obliterated.

Large chunks of flesh were scattered throughout the massive crater, while blood covered the shattered landscape. There wasn’t even a recognizable corpse left behind. The destructive power of the attack had exceeded even Nova’s expectations.

He stared at the scene for a few moments before muttering,

"Damn."

{Well... it can’t be helped. You really don’t understand it yet, do you? Every time you level up and your attributes increase, your overall strength changes drastically. That’s why I keep telling you that every level matters.}

Liya’s voice sounded both amused and helpless.

{Your Strength attribute is already above 500. Do you realize how absurd that is? The problem is that you’ve gained this power far too quickly. You haven’t had enough time to adapt to it or learn how to control it properly. So naturally, you’re surprised by the results of your own attacks.}

Nova nodded thoughtfully.

The explanation made sense.

His growth had been explosive ever since his awakening. Most people spent years adapting to gradual increases in strength, while he was gaining massive boosts in a matter of days. It was only natural that he occasionally misjudged his own power.

"Yeah, okay. I understand."

A small smile appeared beneath his mask.

"So every time I go through a major level-up, I need to spend some time getting used to my new strength."

{Yeah, you can put it that way. Anyway, here are your notifications~}

A flood of system messages instantly appeared before him.

The notifications continued for several moments before finally coming to a stop. Nova couldn’t help but raise his eyebrows.

Nova felt his strength surge once more as he leveled up multiple times in succession. The familiar sensation washed over him again—his muscles growing denser and stronger, brimming with explosive power.

A torrent of energy coursed through every fiber of his body, enhancing him at a rapid pace.

At the same time, his natural aura expanded tremendously, becoming heavier and more imposing. The air around him seemed to tremble under its pressure, unable to withstand the overwhelming power radiating from his body.

It seemed defeating an enemy vastly stronger than himself granted an absurd amount of experience. The difference compared to killing ordinary beasts was like heaven and earth.

"That’s crazy."

A thought immediately entered his mind. "I’ll have to bring half-dead beasts to Rieka in the future so she can level up faster."

{You could...}

Liya paused.

{But are you planning to tell her that you’re the Slaughter Monarch?}

Nova fell silent for a brief moment. "Well... if she’s going to be mine, then she deserves to know." His voice was calm and firm. "And I trust her."

{Well... it’s your choice.}

"Yeah—"

Before Nova could finish speaking, an unexpected notification suddenly appeared before him, interrupting his words.

....

"What the fuck?!" Nova stared at the notification in disbelief. "They actually managed to kill it?"

He hadn’t expected that outcome at all. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

Without wasting another second, lightning erupted around his body as he shot toward the Chimera’s location. Within moments, he arrived at the battlefield where the fight had taken place.

The sight that greeted him left him speechless for a moment.

The colossal Deadborn Hydra stood proudly amidst the devastation, while the other high-level Deadborns gathered around it. The moment they noticed Nova’s arrival, every single one of them lowered their heads and bowed respectfully toward their monarch.

Behind them lay the Chimera’s corpse.

The twenty-meter-long hybrid beast was covered in wounds from head to toe. Deep gashes, crushed bones, and torn flesh covered its entire body. It was obvious that it hadn’t gone down without a fight.

Nova looked between the corpse and his Deadborns. A strange expression appeared beneath his mask. He genuinely hadn’t expected them to win.

After all, the Chimera had possessed a significantly higher level than most of them. Even though it had been outnumbered, it should have been strong enough to survive.

"You all killed it?"

The Deadborns nodded in unison.

Nova blinked.

Then he pointed toward the Chimera.

"How?"

The Deadborns immediately looked at one another.

For the first time since their creation, they seemed unsure how to answer their monarch.

After a brief silence, one of the higher-level Hob-Goblin Deadborn stepped forward. It proudly flexed its muscles and thumped its chest as if trying to explain something.

Nova stared at it.

"..."

The Hob-Goblin flexed even harder.

"..."

Before Nova could make sense of it, a nearby Troll Deadborn smacked the Hob-Goblin on the back of the head.

THWACK!

The Hob-Goblin stumbled forward.

The Troll then pointed toward itself and flexed its own muscles, seemingly offended that the Hob-Goblin was taking all the credit in front of their monarch.

The Hydra’s nine heads simultaneously rolled their eyes

.

Nova stood there in complete silence.

For some reason, watching a group of undead shadow beasts argue over who deserved credit for killing the Chimera felt far more ridiculous than anything else that had happened during the battle.
