Chapter 44: New technique
Back when he fought Moonclaw inside the dungeon, Nova’s level had been far too low. The temporary boost in attributes had pushed his body beyond its limits, and he had nearly died because of it. However, things were different now.
He had already completed his First Evolution, and to make matters even more extraordinary, the evolution had mutated after absorbing demonic energy. His physique had become significantly tougher and more resilient than before.
As a result, even though his level was still relatively low compared to some of his opponents, his body could now withstand far greater attributes without tearing itself apart.
The Hydra sensed the terrifying surge of power coming from Nova and immediately reacted.
Its instincts screamed at it.
The creature wasn’t mindless; it possessed enough intelligence to recognize danger. The human standing before it had suddenly become a far greater threat than before. Without hesitation, the Hydra attempted to retreat, its colossal body turning away from Nova.
Unfortunately for it, Nova had no intention of letting his prey escape.
"Voidborne Telekinesis."
An invisible force descended upon the Hydra.
The massive beast instantly froze in place.
Its gigantic body trembled as an overwhelming telekinetic force locked it down. No matter how hard it struggled, it couldn’t move even a single step. The Hydra let out furious screeches as its nine heads thrashed violently, devouring nearby demonic beasts in frustration and desperation.
However, maintaining such a powerful skill wasn’t easy.
Although Nova possessed Mana Recovery Enhancement, and commanding Deadborns consumed relatively little mana, Voidborne Telekinesis was an entirely different matter. Holding down a creature as massive and powerful as the Hydra drained mana at an alarming rate.
A slight headache formed in his head, but Nova ignored it. It wasn’t a serious problem. His mana would naturally recover soon enough.
The next moment, Nova vanished.
CRACKLE!
Lightning exploded beneath his feet as he appeared directly before the Hydra.
His swords, already coated in lightning and infused with a tiny amount of Chaotic Energy, flashed through the air.
SLASH!
SLASH!
SLASH!
In a series of blinding strikes, Nova severed eight of the Hydra’s nine heads almost instantly. Blood erupted like crimson fountains as the gigantic heads crashed onto the battlefield.
However, before Nova could finish the beast completely, something unexpected happened.
The severed necks began writhing. Then, right before his eyes, new heads rapidly grew back, within moments, the Hydra was restored as if nothing had happened.
Nova raised an eyebrow. Its regenerative ability was even more absurd than he had expected.
Then Liya’s voice echoed in his mind.
{You have to cut off all of its heads at the same time if you want to kill it permanently.}
Nova stared at the regenerating monster for a moment before letting out a small sigh.
"Oh well... I thought I’d leave one head alive and enjoy killing it a little longer." A grin appeared beneath his mask. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
"Guess I don’t have a choice."
His gaze shifted toward the distant battlefield where the other two Rank A beasts still waited. "I still have two more monsters to deal with after this one."
"I’ll try something different this time... let’s see if it works."
Nova slowly closed his eyes and concentrated on the small amount of demonic energy residing within his body. Normally, he only used tiny traces of it, but this time he deliberately drew out more. The dark energy flowed through his arm and into his sword.
The blade immediately began to buzz violently as if struggling to contain the power being poured into it. Its appearance gradually changed, turning pitch black while sinister purple veins spread across its surface.
At the same time, Nova’s aura underwent a terrifying transformation. The demonic energy leaking from his body became so dense that anyone with sharp senses could feel it.
Far away from Nova’s location, Theodore suddenly froze mid-battle.
A chill ran down his spine.
"What... is that?"
For the first time since the battle had begun, genuine fear flashed through the Swordmaster’s eyes.
The same reaction occurred elsewhere on the battlefield.
Maria Light abruptly turned her head toward the source of the aura. Tharuk Vargirth’s wolf instincts screamed in warning. William Ashwood instinctively tightened his grip on his spear, while Markus and even Butler Rodrick felt an inexplicable sense of dread wash over them.
All of them shared the same thought.
Something ominous had descended upon the battlefield. Even the remaining two Rank A beasts advancing toward the city sensed it. Their movements slowed as instinct warned them of a danger they could not comprehend.
Meanwhile, Nova remained completely focused.
The carnage aura surrounding him disappeared entirely as he concentrated solely on the demonic energy. Black wisps rose from his body like smoke, while the ground beneath his feet began cracking under the pressure. His entire figure seemed to become darker and more sinister with every passing second.
Then—
Nova opened his eyes.
Brilliant purple light shone from them. He slowly raised both swords and took a single step forward. The surrounding space seemed to tremble.
Then he swung.
"INFERNAL DOMAIN: ENDLESS DEMONIC SLASHES."
BOOOOOOM!!!
The moment the attack was released, a single slash erupted from his blades.
Then it multiplied.
One became ten.
Ten became hundreds.
Hundreds became thousands.
Thousands became tens of thousands.
An endless storm of demonic slashes engulfed everything before him. The Hydra didn’t even have time to react as its body was pinned by Novas voidborne telekinesis.
All nine of its heads were severed simultaneously, preventing its regeneration from activating. The creature died instantly.
But the attack didn’t stop there.
The countless slashes continued forward, shredding the Hydra’s colossal body into countless pieces before tearing through every demonic beast unfortunate enough to stand in their path.
For several seconds, the battlefield was consumed by destruction. When everything finally settled, a massive path of devastation stretched across the land.
The beast tide had been completely erased from that section of the battlefield. The attack had carved a straight line through the battlefield for nearly three kilometers.
Silence fell, both humans and beasts stared at the scene in complete disbelief. No one could comprehend what they had just witnessed.
This time, the chaos didn’t go unnoticed.
The devastation was witnessed by almost everyone on the battlefield and even warriors fighting far behind at rear , middle and from within Frostholme’s walls. Thousands of demonic beasts had seemingly vanished in a single instant, leaving behind a massive scar stretching across the battlefield.
At the center of that destruction stood a lone figure dressed in long black robes lined with purple patterns. A sinister mask concealed his face while his dark hair fluttered in the wind.
The sight immediately made one thing clear.
The devastation was his doing. But who was he? How could a single human unleash such terrifying power?
The citizens should have been celebrating the deaths of thousands of demonic beasts, yet their shock and curiosity overwhelmed every other emotion.
Countless eyes remained fixed on the mysterious figure standing amidst the aftermath of destruction, trying to understand who—or what—he truly was.
Far at the rear defensive line, Rieka and Asia continued fighting side by side, cutting down the beasts that managed to slip through the front lines.
When the massive explosion occurred, neither of them could clearly see what had happened. Too many warriors stood between them and the source of the disturbance, blocking their view. However, the murmurs spreading across the battlefield quickly reached their ears.
Everyone seemed to be talking about the same thing. A lone masked man dressed in black. Rieka’s grip on her weapon tightened unconsciously.
She didn’t know why, but a strange feeling suddenly rose within her chest. The description sounded oddly familiar. It was an absurd thought, one she immediately tried to dismiss, yet she couldn’t completely ignore the sense of familiarity lingering in her mind.
"Why does this feel so familiar...?" she muttered softly. The possibility forming in her thoughts seemed impossible, and yet she found herself unable to stop thinking about it.
Beside her, Asia had also heard the countless discussions spreading among the warriors. However, unlike Rieka, she showed no visible reaction.
Any expression she might have had remained hidden beneath her mask as she silently listened while continuing to fight.
At the same time, both girls noticed something unusual. The shadowy creatures that had been helping the defenders suddenly paused for a brief moment.
One after another, the Deadborns turned their heads toward the distant battlefield where the explosion had occurred.
For a few seconds, they simply stared in that direction. It was almost as if they were acknowledging something.
Or someone. freёwebnovel.com
Although they quickly resumed carrying out their duties and continued protecting the warriors around them, there was a noticeable change in their behavior.
The Deadborns had felt it.
Their monarch’s power.
And even as they obeyed his commands without hes
itation, a part of them seemed drawn toward the distant figure who stood at the center of the devastation, silently wishing to witness the strength of the one they served.
