Chapter 17: Chaos Energy

The wall behind Nova shattered completely from the impact as massive cracks spread across the dungeon structure. Nova violently coughed out a mouthful of blood, pain exploding throughout his entire body from the horrifying force behind the attack.

"Ugh—!"

He groaned painfully, but despite the agony tearing through his muscles and bones, he quickly forced himself to stabilize. The Moonclaw Tyrant wasn’t planning to give him even a second to recover. The gigantic wolf was already charging toward him once again, its enormous body moving with terrifying speed despite its colossal size.

Nova’s eyes narrowed heavily as realization struck him.

If he hadn’t instantly invested those stat points into Strength and Agility earlier—he would have died from that attack. And that strange aura coating the giant wolf’s claws...

it was absolutely terrifying. Suddenly, another system notification appeared before him.

[Warning: Unknown High-Tier Energy Detected.]

[Analysis Complete.]

[Energy Identified: Chaos Energy.]

[Host is advised to avoid direct contact.]

[Extreme exposure may become life-threatening.]

"Chaos energy..." Nova muttered inwardly as cold sweat slowly dripped down his face. So that terrifying power was called Chaos Energy. Just feeling its presence alone made his instincts scream in danger.

To think something this dreadful actually existed...no wonder he couldn’t properly withstand that attack earlier.

"To think you survived that strike..." the giant wolf spoke coldly while dashing toward him once again with full force. Thick chaotic energy gathered around its gigantic silver claws once more, distorting the surrounding atmosphere violently wherever it passed.

Nova instantly forced himself back onto his feet. Both of his longswords had already been completely destroyed from the previous collision despite being reinforced with lightning. But he wasn’t completely hopeless yet.

Without hesitation, he quickly pulled out another longsword from his inventory and surged forward once again as lightning exploded wildly around his body.

At the same time, Nova assumed. The Moonclaw Tyrant won’t be coating every single attack with Chaos Energy.

Which meant—using that terrifying power must consume an enormous amount of energy even for a monster like it. And if that was true...then as long as he could avoid those chaos-infused attacks—he still had a chance to survive.

Then the true battle began.

Nova no longer held anything back. Every skill, every ounce of strength, every bit of experience he had gained throughout the nightmare inside this dungeon—he unleashed all of it without hesitation.

And neither did the Moonclaw Tyrant.

The gigantic wolf roared furiously as the two clashed again and again, exchanging devastating blows that continuously shook the entire dungeon chamber. Nova avoided the giant beast’s deadly claws by mere moments before retaliating with lightning-coated sword strikes that managed to cut through parts of its thick hide, drawing blood from the monstrous wolf.

Each time the blade sliced through its skin, the Moonclaw Tyrant would growl angrily before retaliating with even more terrifying attacks.

Although the giant wolf possessed greater raw speed than Nova, it couldn’t fully utilize that advantage inside the dungeon chamber. Despite the room being enormous, it still felt cramped for a thirty-foot monster like the Moonclaw Tyrant.

That alone gave Nova room to survive.

And even though Nova’s Agility stat was still lower than the giant beast’s, Lightning Steps compensated heavily for that difference. Lightning continuously exploded around his body as he moved like a raging storm throughout the battlefield, unleashing powerful strikes while barely avoiding death countless times.

But despite all of that—Nova was still getting wounded repeatedly.

Many times during the battle, he came terrifyingly close to death. Even though he managed to avoid most of the direct attacks, the Moonclaw Tyrant was still an A-rank demonic beast carrying traces of Fenrir’s bloodline.

A monster far beyond normal logic. Several times, its claws nearly tore his body apart completely.

Several times, Chaos Energy almost ended his life instantly. The battle turned into a brutal stalemate that continued for three entire days without stopping.

Neither side managed to gain a decisive upper hand.

Nova only survived this long because of his overwhelming speed and adaptability. Without Lightning Steps and his constantly evolving body, he would have died long ago.

Still—he was struggling badly.

At least one thing had become easier now.

Hunger.

As his levels continued increasing and his body evolved further, Nova noticed that basic human limitations like hunger and exhaustion were gradually becoming less significant. It wasn’t that he no longer needed food—

but rather, his body could now survive far longer than an ordinary human without it.

The Moonclaw Tyrant was truly becoming enraged now. It couldn’t believe that a mere human child—someone who hadn’t even crossed the First Evolution Phase—had managed to survive against it for this long.

To the giant wolf, this was a humiliation, an insult to its bloodline and pride. "You insufferable insect!" the Moonclaw Tyrant roared furiously.

The next moment, its aura exploded violently.

Dense Chaos Energy began radiating from the giant beast’s entire body instead of only coating its claws like before. The already terrifying bloodlust filling the dungeon multiplied several times over, becoming so dense that even the atmosphere itself felt distorted.

"Shit—!"

Nova instantly sensed the danger and hurriedly retreated several steps backward. His instincts screamed at him louder than ever before as he stared at the monstrous beast before him.

The pressure had completely changed.

This was on an entirely different level compared to before.

Dense black Chaos Energy continuously leaked from the Moonclaw Tyrant’s gigantic body, twisting the surrounding air unnaturally. Even with Demonic Aura active, Nova could barely resist the overwhelming pressure anymore.

Blood slowly started flowing from his nose.

His Demonic Aura was no longer enough to fully protect him from this amount of Chaos Energy.

"EVEN IF I DIE TODAY... I WILL TEAR YOU APART! GRRRRRR—!"

The giant wolf’s roar thundered across the dungeon chamber violently, making the entire room tremble. Just from the aura alone, Nova could already tell—he wouldn’t survive even a single direct hit now.

But he couldn’t die here.

Not now.

His parents were still waiting for him.

"System... what do I do?" Nova asked anxiously, cold sweat dripping down his face. He truly hadn’t expected this giant wolf to still be hiding so much power.

The system answered after a brief moment.

[Host, if this were an ordinary A-rank beast, you would have already killed it.]

[However, due to the target possessing traces of a legendary bloodline, its capabilities greatly exceed normal standards.]

[Even if the host allocates all remaining stat points immediately, victory probability remains extremely low.]

[I currently possess no available method to assist further.]

"Fuck... what?!" Nova shouted inwardly in disbelief. freēwēbnovel.com

"Do you really want me to die here?! Aren’t you supposed to be a system that helps me?!"

[...]

For a brief moment—the system fell silent.

Then suddenly, another notification appeared before him.

[Their is no other choice then.]

[Emergency Situation Detected.]

[Host life is in critical danger.]

[Emergency Protocol Activated.]

[Granting one-time temporary reinforcement for 10 seconds.]

[Due to excessive strain on system functions, the scheduled upgrade process will begin immediately.]

[System entering Dormant State.]

[Default System Mechanisms will remain active during dormancy.]

[Essential notifications and status updates will continue to function normally.]

[Best of luck, Host.]

The next moment—

a terrifying surge of power exploded throughout Nova’s body.

[+100 Strength]

[+100 Agility]

[+100 Stamina]

BOOOOM.

Lightning erupted wildly around Nova as the sudden increase in power nearly shattered the ground beneath his feet.

Blood continuously flowed from Nova’s nose as his entire body trembled violently under the sudden surge of overwhelming power. Moments later, even his ears began bleeding. The temporary strength boost granted by the system was simply too much for his current level.

His body couldn’t fully withstand the monstrous raw power flowing through him now.

Pain spread across every part of his body as lightning exploded wildly around him uncontrollably.

Then—

notification after notification began appearing rapidly before his eyes.

But Nova couldn’t properly focus on the endless messages appearing before him.

He only had ten seconds.

And he knew very clearly—

his body wouldn’t be able to handle this absurd level of strength for long. He had to finish everything in a single decisive attack.

Still, Nova quickly noticed one thing. The unbearable pain caused by the surrounding Chaos Energy had slightly decreased.

That was because of the resistance and understanding he had just obtained regarding Chaos Energy itself.

The Moonclaw Tyrant dashed toward Nova with all its might, the gigantic beast tearing apart the dungeon floor beneath its claws as dense Chaos Energy exploded wildly around its massive body.

At the same time, Nova stopped retreating.

Instead—he poured everything he had into a single attack.

Lightning erupted violently around both of his arms as he began concentrating all of his power into one sword strike. The blade in his hand trembled intensely under the terrifying amount of energy flowing through it while arcs of lightning continuously burst outward and destroyed the surrounding ground.

Then—

Nova mixed a small amount of Chaos Energy into the attack. Only a tiny amount. Just enough for his body to barely handle , also he didn’t have full control on this new energy yet.

Even then, the pressure radiating from the sword became absolutely dreadful.

The air distorted violently around the blade.

Lightning and Chaos Energy intertwined together, creating a terrifying mixture of destruction that made even the approaching Moonclaw Tyrant instinctively feel danger for the first time.

Nova’s body shot high into the air as lightning exploded beneath his feet.

The next moment—

he swung the sword downward with everything he had.

"CHAOS LIGHTNING SEVERANCE!"
