Chapter 87: Chapter 87: Chiffon Cake and a New Guest
"The portal will appear in more dimensions?" Chen Ze scratched his head, feeling a bit lost. The effect that the System had unexpectedly added this time seemed to him an impressive yet incomprehensible thing.
"Then I’ll take my leave now." Recalling his human memories, Stan looked at Chen Ze calmly, planning to return to his own territory to deal with some affairs.
Stan remembered that one of the underlings of his underlings was a High Grade Lich. That Necromancer seemed to be holding the very Magic Book he owned in his lifetime.
"Mr. Stan, I wanted to ask if there are more of these stones?" Chen Ze hesitated a bit before asking. After all, a single stone had provided fifty thousand points of progress. If he could get another one, then he could fill up the progress bar.
"I came across this thing by chance. As far as I know, there’s only one such stone in the negative dimension," Stan shook his head. He had also obtained the stone from a spatial rift by a very coincidental circumstance. Originally, he planned to use it for alchemy.
"Alright, you’re welcome to come again next time." Chen Ze felt a bit disappointed, but that was all. He quickly adjusted his mindset, considering the unexpected gain as a pleasant surprise.
After seeing Stan off, Chen Ze went back to eat hotpot with Andrew and the others, while also pondering what exactly the System upgrade meant.
More dimensions? Could it be that besides the positive and negative dimensions, there are other dimensions in that other world?
Meanwhile, on Earth in another universe, quite abruptly, a door appeared on a small island, adorned with mysterious patterns.
The door, which had appeared out of nowhere, quickly caught the attention of the local residents. They took pictures and posted them online, but soon all the posts were deleted, and two helicopters rapidly arrived at the island where the door had appeared.
"The containment team has arrived at the location of the anomalous object and is investigating the residents who have come into contact with the object..."
A lady in a white coat stepped off the helicopter, cautiously standing at a distance and observing the door ahead of her. A small group of people quickly gathered around her.
"Have D-class Personnel been arranged to check for anomalies?" The doctor furrowed her brows. The door looked no different from any other—made of wood. She could even determine that the material was mahogany.
"Doctor, two D-class Personnel have been sent to make contact," a burly man wearing a tactical helmet responded swiftly, his gaze fixed on the two individuals in orange clothing cautiously approaching the wooden door.
"D-237, do you experience any anomalies after approaching the door?" The doctor asked via the walkie-talkie.
"No... no problems, I feel quite normal," D-237 answered immediately.
"Good, please proceed," the doctor took out a laptop, placed it in front of her, and watched the viewpoint from D-237’s perspective.
"It looks just like a regular wooden door, even the handle is metallic, similar to the doors you find in the market," the doctor commented while taking notes.
"I’m now at the door, what should I do next?" D-415 asked nervously. He didn’t know what the problem was with the door, but the sight of the armed special forces around him made him feel very pressured.
"Doctor, should we instruct the D-class Personnel to open it?" the special forces captain asked.
"First observe the door with instruments, at the same time monitor the physical condition of the two D-class Personnel. Let’s try to see if we can destroy this anomaly first," a door appearing out of nowhere, the doctor thought it was best to stay cautious.
"D-415, try scratching the door with a small knife," the doctor commanded.
Swallowing, D-415 shakily took out a small knife from his pocket and poked it at the door, lightly scratching it.
The wooden door showed no changes, nor any scratches.
"D-415, use your full strength." The doctor furrowed his brow, then saw the wooden door that an adult male had struck with all his might remain unscathed, without even a single mark of damage.
"The anomalous object possesses wooden properties, but seems indestructible?" The doctor noted this in his notebook, although he was still unsure whether the wooden door could withstand attacks from heavy weaponry, recklessly striking it might pose unknown risks.
"Doctor, after testing, there’s no other space behind that wooden door, and two D-class personnel have stood on either side of the door without issue."
After pondering for a moment, the doctor decided to let two D-class personnel open the door to see what was on the other side.
"D-237, push the door open and enter. D-415, stay on standby on the other side of the door." The doctor signaled the researchers nearby to prepare their defenses while multiple recording devices were aimed at the door, ready to document whatever was inside.
D-237 swallowed hard, then slowly pushed the door open...
Chen Ze glanced at his own door, not knowing why, but he had the feeling the door had slightly changed, as if its patterns had become more complex?
"Could it be my imagination?" Chen Ze scratched his head and returned to the kitchen, intending to check on his fish aspic.
Indeed, the weather was very cold today, and after several hours, the fish aspic showed signs of setting.
"When Betty arrives, I’ll let her try it." Chen Ze turned, satisfied, rolled up his sleeves, and prepared to cook a new dish today.
"Although I know quite a few home-cooked dishes, always having the same few desserts is a bit too monotonous, right?" Chen Ze separated the egg yolks from the whites, planning to make a chiffon cake today.
To Chen Ze, a chiffon cake seemed like one of the easier baking projects, the kind you couldn’t mess up as long as you had the equipment and strictly followed the recipe.
But just when Chen Ze was about to begin mixing, the wind chime hanging at the door tinkled, signifying a customer’s entrance.
Chen Ze wiped his hands and stuck his head out to look, only to see a man in an orange outfit enter, his chest adorned with a tag reading D-237, and he was wearing a headset with a camera on his head.
"Welcome to... what the hell?" Chen Ze walked out, frowning at the man who was clearly just as shocked.
"Who are you?" Chen Ze asked.
The man was stunned, then touched his headset. Since entering this restaurant, he had lost all contact with the outside world, and his microphone was very quiet.
"Are you human?" The man spoke, as Chen Ze noticed a hint of danger in his eyes.
"Yes, this is the Dream Restaurant. How did you get in here?" Chen Ze was a little worried that this person might be a resident of Sun Moon City who had accidentally come in. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
D-237 licked his lips. As a death row inmate, he now had an idea that, if successful, could grant him freedom and spare him from participating in those dangerous experiments.
Chen Ze scratched his head, sensing that the man was up to no good, but surely he couldn’t be that foolish, right?
