Chapter 540: 400 Chapters Sushi
"Sushi? Manager, are you making sushi now?" Momonga-san’s eyes lit up instantly, and I mean that quite literally.
"It might not be perfect, but it’s worth a try," Chen Ze nodded. Yes, although Joichiro Yukihira had already taught Chen Ze, he hadn’t tried making it himself, so he wasn’t very confident.
"Then I’ll have a serving of sushi, thank you," Momonga-san nodded happily. Whether it was authentic Japanese sushi or not didn’t matter much, as long it was edible, it was always better than nothing.
"OK, just give me a minute, Momonga-san," Chen Ze nodded and then headed into the kitchen.
Chen Ze needed to make two dishes this time, one was the fast food, which was easy; he could even let Betty take care of it. However, Betty wouldn’t do as good of a job as Chen Ze, so he decided to handle it himself.
As for the sushi, that was something Chen Ze had to do on his own.
To be honest, before learning about sushi, Chen Ze thought sushi was a very simple Japanese dish to make. Isn’t it just shaping rice and placing a slice of raw fish on top, then pairing it with soy sauce and wasabi? That seemed to be all there was to it.
However, after learning how to make sushi from Joichiro Yukihira, Chen Ze found out that making sushi really was... incredibly simple. There wasn’t much difficulty to speak of, but mastering the skill to reach the level of a ’Sushi God’ in Japan still presented some challenge.
"So first, let’s steam the rice, then I’ll think about what kind of sushi would be good to make," Chen Ze touched his chin, but he started steaming the rice first.
The type of sushi is usually determined by the ingredients added to it. If you’re adding salmon sashimi, then it’s a salmon sushi. However, since Chen Ze was not very fond of eating raw food, he decided to make a more common corn and crab roe sushi.
While the sushi rice was steaming, Chen Ze quickly prepared the corn and then finished the fast food, letting Betty take it out.
"I remember I should have already put the sushi vinegar in," Chen Ze yawned. Sushi rice requires something called sushi vinegar, which Chen Ze bought from a Japanese Cuisine ingredient store on a previous occasion, so he wasn’t lacking anything now. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
Once the rice was steamed, Chen Ze washed his hands and made sure there were no issues before taking out the rice to start making the sushi.
Corn and crab roe sushi isn’t particularly troublesome to make, and Chen Ze was quick at it, finishing in no time at all.
"Tsk tsk, I feel like this sushi could sell for at least fifty or sixty if I took it outside," Chen Ze looked at the plate of sushi in front of him and smiled proudly.
Chen Ze remembered going to a Japanese Izakaya once and eating corn and crab roe sushi just like this. There were two pieces, just a mouthful each, costing fifteen yuan.
And the one Chen Ze made was more generous, with a total of six pieces. Using the pricing for Japanese sushi, it wouldn’t be too much to ask for sixty yuan for six pieces.
In Huaxia, Japanese cuisine restaurants are generally known for their small portions and high prices, including some ramen shops where a bowl of tonkotsu ramen for forty-nine yuan isn’t strange at all.
"Betty, come take the dish," Chen Ze wiped his hands and called Betty in, also pouring a cup of sake for Momonga-san.
"Oh, crab roe sushi?" Momonga-san had already finished his burger and Coke and was leisurely eating his fries. Seeing the sushi served, he was pleasantly surprised.
"Please enjoy your meal," Betty placed the sake jug on Momonga-san’s table, then retreated to the side.
"Sake huh..." Momonga picked up the cup, took a sniff, and couldn’t help but sigh.
He was familiar with this type of sake, commonly found on the market, though it wasn’t the kind he preferred to drink. But now, having the chance to sip it filled Momonga with a sense of overwhelming emotion.
He slowly took a sip of the sake, picked up a piece of sushi with his chopsticks, and placed it in his mouth, gently biting into it.
The flavor of corn kernels mixed with salad dressing, and the distinct roe, burst upon the magical construct of a tongue, blending with the sushi as he chewed.
It was incredibly delicious.
Watching Momonga, who was closing his eyes in enjoyment, Chen Ze smiled and then continued to focus on perfecting his Magic crispy rice dish; he needed to refine it as soon as possible.
"Ah... it’s been so long since I’ve had such authentic sushi," Momonga said contentedly. After journeying to the game world, he realized a problem—he hadn’t brought sushi vinegar or other ingredients with him.
Though his chef had managed to develop vinegar, it never quite reached the taste Momonga was looking for; he felt homesick.
But now, being able to taste it once again was an incredibly delightful experience.
"Welcome to Dream Restaurant, Lord Stan~" Betty greeted another customer cheerfully.
"Hmm, Momonga, long time no see," Stan said, spotting Momonga sitting at the front and enjoying his food as soon as he entered.
"Oh, if it isn’t Stan! Mister Manager, please bring me ten glasses of Lai Mei, and twenty skewers of grilled chicken!" Momonga immediately grew excited, the homesickness he felt moments ago receding quickly.
"Alright," Chen Ze nodded. From the moment he saw Stan come in, he had silently picked up the skewers.
"Betty, I’ll have Lai Mei, and let the Manager grill whatever he likes," said Stan, a rare smile flickering across his somber undead face.
"Sure~" Betty quickly went into the kitchen and brought out glass after glass of Lai Mei.
Chen Ze twisted his wrists, and since they were about to start on the grilled dishes, it was time for him to begin with the chicken feet, while also preparing some of the more common grilled items.
The best part of the chicken feet is the piece of meat in the center, referred to as the gem of the feet, which Chen Ze himself greatly enjoyed.
"Brother Stan, would you like to try my magic?" Chen Ze spoke as he cooked, listening to the sounds of the restaurant.
"Look, this is Heart Grasp, a type of instant death magic. If the opponent lacks magic resistance, it’s almost certainly fatal," Momonga recited a strange incantation.
"Heart Grasp? This magic is quite interesting, but there are creatures with multiple hearts or no hearts at all, so I still recommend my magic, Finger of Death," Stan replied, unusually chatty.
Chen Ze laughed and shook his head; these two skeletal undead were practically planning to form a Monarch of Undead exchange group.
