Chapter 539: Chapter Three Hundred and Ninety-Nine Fast Food and Cola
The solution was actually very simple. After learning the method from Lafra, Chen Ze felt a bit silly for not having thought of it himself—this must be the proverbial cant-see-the-forest-for-the-trees situation.
"So let me see, during the process of boiling dragon meat, I need to keep a close eye on it and then observe the color of the water. As soon as there’s a hint of redness, I have to quickly scoop out the dragon meat..." Chen Ze stood in front of the soup pot again. He had already poured out the previous pot of red water and now Chen Ze prepared some new pieces of dragon meat and placed them into the soup pot.
According to Lafra, if one could scoop out the dragon meat before its color changed during boiling, the taste would be better. Her chef was able to remove the dragon meat before the dragon’s blood seeped out, and this method produced the best tasting meat, which was delicious, tender, and had a great texture.
"That being said, I feel like that chef must have mastered the optimal cooking time for dragon meat, so I’ll just pay close attention..." Chen Ze rubbed his eyes and then watched the pot of dragon meat intently.
It wasn’t long before Chen Ze noticed the water around the dragon meat starting to turn red, so he immediately scooped it out with a skimmer and put it in a small bowl.
Chen Ze looked at the dragon meat. Compared to the previous failed batch, this one seemed to have more of a substantial feel, almost gemstone-like in appearance. He poked it with chopsticks and felt it was a bit soft.
"Let’s give it a taste." Chen Ze picked up his chopsticks, grabbed a piece of dragon meat and stuffed it into his mouth, then slowly chewed it.
It was a stark contrast to the previous batch of dragon meat; at the very least, the flavor and texture had significantly improved. If not for the fact that Chen Ze cut the meat himself, he might have doubted it was from the same creature.
"The flavor seems pretty good, but it’s still far from the stunning sensation of grilled dragon meat, so ultimately, is it because I scooped it out at the wrong time?" Chen Ze stroked his chin.
This was an easy issue to rectify. Chen Ze had just used a stopwatch to time the moment he scooped out the meat. Next, he just needed to try it piece by piece, gradually reducing the time, in order to find the optimal texture. Then the cooking of dragon meat would be a relatively simple matter.
After experimenting for a full hour and a half, Chen Ze finally confirmed the optimal cooking time for Calamity’s Gaenon: one hundred and sixty-six seconds, not a second more, not a second less.
"I’m at my wits’ end. Does this red dragon have some sort of fixation with the number six?" Chen Ze complained vigorously. To say one hundred and sixty-six seconds wasn’t exactly right, Chen Ze felt that this piece of dragon meat might have two more sixes behind it, but if it’s less than seconds, then it would be very difficult to calculate precisely, so Chen Ze could only try more.
"Boss~" Betty burst into the kitchen, looking pitifully at Chen Ze.
"What’s wrong?" Chen Ze looked at Betty, a bit puzzled.
"Hehe, I was wondering, do you have any recommendations for something that pairs well with cola?" Betty rubbed her hands together. She had just suddenly thought that although burgers and sandwiches go quite well with cola, they don’t seem to be the best partners for it.
"Didn’t you make some? Normally, fries are recommended to go with cola, right?" Chen Ze looked at Betty in confusion, recalling that he had taught Betty how to make fries.
"I haven’t made fries." Betty shook her head; she didn’t remember learning how to make them.
"All right, I’ll show you. You should be able to do it after watching it once. Anyway, I’ll prepare the tools and everything for you in advance." Chen Ze stretched lazily, feeling a bit worn out from cooking the dragon meat, and decided to take a break and relax a bit.
To be honest, making French fries seemed a bit troublesome, but it was quite straightforward once he started cooking. Since Chen Ze had everything he needed, cooking them up was very quick, and in no time, he placed a steaming portion of fries on the table.
"Here, give them a try." Chen Ze poured out some ketchup and put together a small bag of salt and pepper, and the fries were ready to serve.
However, he didn’t receive any notification from the System, which didn’t surprise Chen Ze. After all, he didn’t think something as simple as fries would be worth any experience points.
"Delicious!" Betty happily picked up another one.
Chen Ze shook his head and then checked the stew pot, finding that the stewed chicken feet were now ready to be taken out.
"Let’s see, the stewed chicken feet are done, the lemon chicken feet should be ready too, and I can make the barbeque chicken feet later," Chen Ze said as he took out the chicken feet and placed them on a small plate. He planned to snack on them later and bring some for Lafra as well. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
By the time Chen Ze finished with the chicken feet and turned around, Betty had already finished off the fries and was contentedly sitting in the chair, patting her round belly.
A corner of Chen Ze’s mouth twitched. He suspected her mouth was like a black hole; the portion of fries she ate, although not massive, would have been enough to stuff an adult male.
"The fries are tasty, but they’re high in calories and a bit salty, which can make customers thirsty. That’s why cola pairs well with fries," Chen Ze glanced at Betty’s belly, thinking her stomach would eventually expand. One day, his restaurant might see its first overweight succubus.
"Manager...you make a lot of sense," Betty gave Chen Ze a thumbs up as she could hardly move from being so full.
"Mhm," Chen Ze then took out the lemon chicken feet and went upstairs, placing them beside the sleeping Lafra.
"Welcome to Dream Restaurant~ Dear customer~" After Chen Ze went down, Momonga-san was already sitting at a table.
"Momonga-san, what are you planning to eat today?" Chen Ze asked with a smile, as Momonga-san was a regular customer, though he hadn’t seen him much recently.
"I just heard Betty say that the fries are delicious, so I’ll have a fast-food meal, it’s been a while since I last had one," the soul fire in Momonga’s eye sockets flickered continuously.
Before his transmigration, Momonga wouldn’t have cared for fast food, thinking it was something only JKs would enjoy. But now, after transmigrating, he wanted to taste the food from his past.
"Got it. But, Momonga-san, don’t you want to consider some sushi?" Chen Ze remembered the Japanese cuisine he had recently learned from Joichiro Yukihira. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
When it comes to Japan, many people immediately think of sushi as the iconic food. However, others might recount tempura or karaage as common Japanese dishes as well.
