Chapter 25: Chapter Twenty-Five: The So-Called Atmosphere
"Hey, I remember that Shi Yi Zhong is a key high school, right?"
Chen Ze pinched the bridge of his nose, a bit unclear on the situation.
"Yeah, a key high school. Otherwise, why would our parents have let me transfer?"
Chen Xingchen picked up a piece of braised pork and ate it with rice.
Chen Ze gave Chen Xingchen a glance, now even more confused about the situation.
"So why would you... say something like that?" After all, Chen Xingchen’s earlier comment could essentially be translated to mean their class was full of perverts.
"Well... how should I put it, they are indeed pretty weird, especially a few of the boys." Chen Xingchen took a sip of Coca Cola.
"Oh? What, do you have gentlemen in your class who claim to be members of the Diving Society, but are actually part of a drinking group?" Chen Ze had no opinion about his sister drinking Coca Cola, as he quite liked it himself.
"Bro, you’ve probably been watching too much anime," Chen Xingchen rolled her eyes.
"Then tell me, what exactly is going on?"
"Since you’re so curious, instead of bottling it up inside and feeling unhappy, I might as well let it out and give you a laugh." Chen Xingchen sighed and placed her chopsticks on the bowl.
"In our class, including me, there are a total of 32 students, split evenly between boys and girls."
"Among the girls, there are a few with chuunibyou, a few airheads, and one dark and twisted girl; the rest are normal."
Chen Ze wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, "Your class sounds pretty tough indeed."
"Then among the boys, there are a few otakus, a few study maniacs, and also a few perverts; the rest are also normal."
"From what you’re saying, I think you could make friends with those normal people," Chen Ze drank a sip of iced tea. He didn’t feel like eating much after cooking all day.
"The problem is, I don’t know why, but those normal people have pushed me into the abnormal group." Chen Xingchen was slumped over the table, utterly perplexed as to why she was also considered abnormal.
"Did you hit someone?" Chen Ze squinted at his sister.
After all, in terms of both appearance and personality, Chen Xingchen is quite ordinary.
Except for the fact that she likes to get physical.
"Ahaha, why would I hit someone? Hahaha." Chen Ze looked at Chen Xingchen with half-closed eyes; her tone was obviously a lie.
"Okay, I did hit someone." Chen Xingchen’s voice was low as she hung her head.
"But it’s not my fault. When I just entered the school, there were a few girls who tried to come up and collect protection money, and I couldn’t help but..." Chen Xingchen spoke about the incident in a nonchalant tone, as if it wasn’t a big deal.
Chen Ze silently listened on the side without interrupting his sister.
The story was simple and rather cliché, typical school bullying, except this time those girls picked the wrong target and ended up getting thoroughly beaten.
"Then, after the people in our class saw it, I got pushed into the abnormal group."
"Ahaha, but what does it matter? I didn’t do anything wrong, and you have to study hard in high school anyway." Chen Xingchen touched her head and laughed loudly.
"You’ve worked very hard, little sister." Chen Ze gently stroked Chen Xingchen’s head, massaging it a little.
Chen Ze didn’t know what to say, this kind of issue had already become an internal affair of Chen Xingchen’s class. Xingchen, having beaten up the little bully, was naturally regarded by the normal crowd in the class as a violent person not to be messed with, and so, she was naturally ostracized by them.
And it seemed, the abnormal group was also somewhat afraid of Xingchen and naturally started excluding her as well.
"Brother..." Xingchen said with her head lowered, her voice slightly trembling.
"What’s wrong?" Chen Ze looked at his sister with a beaming smile, cherishing the opportunity to show his brotherly demeanor which didn’t come by often.
"Gross, don’t use my head as a towel to wipe your oily hands." Xingchen slapped Chen Ze’s hand away with a disgusted expression.
"It seems I’ll have to wash my hair several times later!"
"You... you ungrateful sister!"
Chen Ze, annoyed, collected the dishes Xingchen had finished with and brought them back to the kitchen.
Xingchen watched Chen Ze leave with her chin propped on her hands and a bright smile on her face.
"I’m definitely not a brother-complex... Absolutely not!"
The next day, Chen Ze was woken up by Xingchen’s noise.
Looking at Xingchen playing console games on a 24k curved screen, Chen Ze’s mouth twitched.
He had an urge to rush over and turn off the console, but after considering the difference in combat prowess between them, he abandoned the tempting idea.
"Star, do you not know that disturbing someone’s peaceful dreams on an early weekend morning is an extremely heinous act?" Chen Ze got up irritably and scratched his belly.
"Brother, it’s already 9 a.m. I think it’s perfectly normal for you to get up. Didn’t you used to wake up at 5:30 a.m. every day in high school?"
"Ah, please don’t compare the 17-year-old me with the 26-year-old me," Chen Ze said while brushing his teeth and watching his sister play Monster Hunter. freewёbnoνel.com
"This morning when I went out for exercise, I saw a note stuck on the door of the restaurant. I placed it there," Xingchen said, setting a paralyzing trap and casually pointing at the A4 paper on the table.
Chen Ze picked it up curiously to take a look.
"Boss, I strongly request you continue to sell Storm Grilled Meat tonight! Autum Pear Ointment!"
From the short line, Chen Ze could sense a foodie’s craving and impatience.
"What is Storm Grilled Meat? Brother, what new dark cuisine have you conjured up now?" Xingchen said, smiling triumphantly as she watched the successful game capture.
"Ah, it’s the thing I made when the Undead Monarch visited again while you were at school, giving me some otherworldly ingredients," Chen Ze put the paper aside. Although he too wanted to make big money, there was only one wing of the Storm Hawk left, and if he bought more, there would be nothing left to sell.
"I see," Xingchen put the game controller aside and stretched lazily.
"Since we’re resting today, I’ll go down and check out your ingredients for you and casually teach you a few dishes. Don’t shame our Chen Culinary Style," Xingchen said with pride.
"Let’s not talk about your so-called casual teaching, what’s Chen Culinary Style? How come I don’t know about it? Our family isn’t prestigious enough to have its own culinary style," Chen Ze wiped his face, feeling Xingchen was just hungry and too lazy to cook for herself, which was why she said that.
However, his sister did indeed possess decent cooking skills, so Chen Ze still followed her down to the kitchen.
"So, brother, today I will teach you how to make sweet and sour pork ribs!" Xingchen tied on an apron and clapped her hands.
