Chapter 120: Chapter 12 Reinhardt

"Reinhardt! You are committing heresy!" the three knights clad in silver armor stared unyieldingly at the old man in front of them, left hands resting on the hilts of their swords.

Behind the trio stood a regiment of a hundred knights, silently gripping their swords, awaiting orders.

"My brothers, I have dedicated my life to the God of Light, and the only wrong I have done is obeying the Bishop’s arrangements, to expel these innocent people!" The elderly man with white hair and beard angrily faced his former comrades.

"Reinhardt, they are all sinners in the eyes of the Church, confirmed personally by the Bishop. You must not defy the will of the Church!" The leading knight frowned, drawing his sword from his waist, its blade reflecting the sunlight.

Reinhardt angrily pointed behind him; he could never forget what happened yesterday.

"My brothers, open your eyes and look! Those are honest, hard-working peasants who are deemed sinners merely because they didn’t buy those swindlers’ indulgences!" Reinhardt trembled with outrage.

"To make them leave their lands! And even to take their possessions, allowing their wives and daughters to be taken away by slave traders!"

"This is not the Church I believe in! The great God of Light doesn’t require his faithful to pay with silver coins to atone for their sins!" Reinhardt gripped his sword tightly.

This weapon that had once brought him glory and honor now made him feel ashamed.

The leading knight remained silent; he too was aware of the things Reinhardt spoke of.

"Old friend, don’t blame me, this is the will of the Church. As long as Boas City’s Church is headed by Bishop Vladimir, his will is the will of the Church." The knight slowly raised his sword.

The Bishop had said, heretics must be brought back, tied to the stakes, and burned alive.

Reinhardt looked sorrowfully at his old friend; his fingers trembled with rage and grief, and his words shook as well.

"My brother... The path of knighthood is not like this, do not forget our oath. We, we are their shield, protecting the weak, not the sword wielded against them!" Reinhardt forcefully planted his sword into the earth beneath him.

"Old buddy! What are you doing!" the knight exclaimed in shock, realizing what his old friend intended to do.

"I, Reinhardt Odel, swear to become the shield for the weak and to wield my sword against the cruel oppressors!" A white glow slowly radiated from the sword.

"I have always followed the will of God, fighting against the darkness of the world, fighting for the innocent! Justice’s fresh blood forever flows in my heart; I will not submit to evil!" Reinhardt’s face aged rapidly, the once robust old man now withered and close to death.

The white light soared to the sky, and the formidable Power of Light formed a shield before the Knight Order.

The powerful presence halted the Knight Order, and the leading knight, with a sad gaze upon his now powerless old friend sitting on the ground, understood this was their last encounter.

"Old friend... The teacher was right, you are the true knight..." The knight shook his head, performed the ultimate salute, and retreated back into the Knight Order.

"Commander, the Bishop’s orders..." a knight beside him hesitated and made the inquiry.

"I will explain this matter personally to the Bishop. The heretic Reinhardt, at the cost of his life, helped the sinners escape." The commander shot a cold glance at his subordinate.

Then he turned his head, looking at the white barrier reaching for the heavens and the man slumped on the ground, laughing with joy, knowing death was near.

"God of Light... the greatest Knight Commander Reinhardt... has died..." The words were barely audible.

Reinhardt lay laughing on the ground, now aged, a spell of sacrifice had left him an ordinary old man, and night was fast approaching, when the savage beasts would easily tear apart his flesh and crush his bones.

"A lifetime of battle, yet to die by the maw of a beast, quite ironic..." Reinhardt shook his head, slowly rising to his feet, even in death, he wished to die standing.

"What is this...?" Reinhardt looked on in surprise at the scene before him, a wooden door materializing out of thin air in the wilderness, with strange symbols adorning it.

Reinhardt furrowed his brows, reached out his hand, and slowly pushed the door open.

"Am I supposed to drink this directly?" Chen Ze was somewhat frustrated as he stared at the potion in his hand, hesitating whether to just let the System absorb it instead.

After all, the potion smelled odd, and the taste was likely to be no better than that of eating coptis.

Chen Ze admitted he had no fondness for the taste of coptis, having disliked bitter flavors since childhood.

However, after glancing at Lafra happily gnawing on chicken wings, Chen Ze ultimately steeled himself and downed the potion in one go.

"Pfft... cough, cough..." Chen Ze felt that this was one of the most painful things in the world, and although he had never given birth, the agony he experienced was no less than childbirth.

Chen Ze curled up on the ground in pain, shaking violently, his hands felt as if they had been shattered by a hammer, and the hammering continued without pause. ƒrēewebnovel.com

"Could this be poison?" A thought flashed through Chen Ze’s mind, but that shouldn’t be the case, as the Magic Circle would automatically protect him from harm.

This was something Chen Ze had discovered previously when experimenting with dishwashing liquid; not only physical damage, but poison as well was ineffective against him.

"You’re diligent." Stan glanced at the kitchen, able to hear Chen Ze’s anguished cries.

Lafra narrowed her eyes at him, then continued to lower her head and nibble on the cola chicken wings, which were very much to her liking.

"You didn’t reveal the true effect of the deep sea, did you?" Stan finished another glass of Buffet.

"A lifespan increase of ten thousand years, you really are generous." Stan picked up the next glass of Buffet.

"I like drinking cola, it’s none of your business! Besides, human life is so short, if he dies, I’d miss out on cola, wouldn’t that be a loss?" Lafra glared sideways at Stan.

"You just like him, don’t you." Stan said calmly, swaying to the left to avoid a flying fork.

"Bastard! If I don’t kill you today, I’ll..." Lafra angrily rolled up her sleeves.

Then she glanced at the kitchen, good, still screaming in pain, probably didn’t hear it.

At that moment, Chen Ze felt like he was about to fly, the pain began to sweep through his body, giving him a taste of what it meant to be unable to live or die.

Humans faint under intense pain, a mechanism of self-protection for the body.

But at that moment, Chen Ze was in so much pain yet couldn’t lose consciousness, feeling that if this continued, he might become an idiot.

Then, the pain disappeared, and Chen Ze felt an extraordinary relief throughout his body.

Chen Ze leaned on the cabinet to stand up, he moved his hands, indeed they were much more agile now.

"What is this place? Vampire?" an aged voice asked.
