Chapter 9: 9. The Tutorial Realm (3)
WHOOSH!
A mana-infused arrow tore cleanly through the air before piercing directly through the skull of an exhausted Green Goblin.
"RRAARRGH!" the creature let out one final screech before collapsing heavily onto the forest floor.
A second later, its body dissolved into glowing particles of light.
[Ding! XP Gained!] fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
[Ding! Level Up!]
[Ding! 10 Points Acquired!]
[Ding! Mirko has leveled up!]
Nathan slowly lowered his bow while releasing a long breath. "Phew..."
Sweat dripped down the side of his face as he pulled up his status screen.
After nearly an hour of hunting inside the Tutorial Realm, he had finally reached Level 5.
Mirko, meanwhile, had reached Level 4.
Their hunting strategy had remained relatively straightforward so far.
Nathan would activate [Sharp Eyes Lv.6] to analyze enemy movement patterns and identify vulnerable points while Mirko used her small size and agility to harass monsters nonstop.
Once the target became exhausted or exposed an opening...
Nathan would finish the battle using [Piercing Shot Lv.8].
It was Simple, efficient and most importantly... Safe.
Well, relatively safe.
The only major issue was Nathan’s terrible F-Grade magical aptitude. His mana reserves were painfully limited.
Even after leveling his skills through nonstop training during the past week, excessive skill usage still drained him quickly during prolonged combat.
Thankfully, every level up completely restored his mana while slightly increasing his overall reserves.
Otherwise, Nathan probably would have collapsed from exhaustion already.
He glanced at the leaderboard again.
[433. Nathan Cross: 75 Points]
Nathan clicked his tongue softly. "Still low..."
He walked over toward the dead goblin’s remains before crouching down and retrieving his arrow from the ground.
The arrows he bought weren’t cheap. No way in hell was he wasting them carelessly.
After placing the arrow back into his quiver, Nathan muttered quietly to himself. "Slow and steady."
Right now, survival mattered far more than greedily chasing rankings.
’Master!’ Mirko’s voice suddenly echoed excitedly through their mental link.
Nathan immediately became alert. ’What is it?’
’More goblins nearby!’ Mirko’s nose twitched rapidly. ’I can smell them! And...’
She paused briefly. ’There’s fighting too!’
Nathan narrowed his eyes instantly.
Without wasting another second, both he and Mirko quietly moved through the dense vegetation toward the source of the noise.
The deeper they moved into the forest, the louder the sounds became: Clashing weapons, shouting ,monster screeches.
Nathan eventually slowed his pace before crouching behind a thick bush. Mirko quietly hid beside him. Together, they peeked through the leaves.
A party of five students was currently battling three Green Goblins. At first glance, the students seemed relatively coordinated.
Two Priests, One Archer, One Warrior, and one Swordsman acting as the party leader alongside his Grey Wolf summon.
The battle itself looked manageable as two goblins already lay dead on the ground, disintegrating into light.
The remaining goblin appeared heavily injured. Then...
"SKREEEEEEEEEE!!!"
The final goblin suddenly released an extremely loud shriek just before the Grey Wolf bit its head clean off.
The entire forest momentarily fell silent.
Nathan’s expression immediately changed. "...That’s not good."
Then lmost instantly.... A distant shriek echoed back from somewhere deeper within the jungle. Then another. And another.
Birds suddenly exploded upward from the trees in panic.
One of the students visibly paled.
"W..What was that...?"
Nathan slowly tightened his grip around his bow while remaining hidden inside the bushes.
"Run, you idiots..." he muttered under his breath.
Unfortunately... The students didn’t run.
Heavy footsteps suddenly shook the ground.
THUD.
THUD.
THUD.
The trees ahead violently parted.
Then it emerged, a Hobgoblin.
The creature stood nearly six feet tall with dark green skin stretched over thick muscles. Crude spiked armor covered one shoulder while a gigantic wooden club rested in its hand.
And surrounding it were Five more Green Goblins.
The atmosphere instantly changed.
Fear spread visibly across the students’ faces. "D-Don’t panic!" the swordsman shouted nervously while gripping his weapon tightly. "It’s ten against six! We can still win this!"
Nathan nearly snorted from his hiding spot.
That was absolutely not how monster scaling worked. Still, the students quickly regrouped.
The priests began chanting support magic.
The warrior stepped forward aggressively.
The archer prepared another arrow.
And finally... The swordsman charged first alongside his Grey Wolf.
"HYAAAH!"
The wolf lunged directly toward the Hobgoblin’s throat.
The Hobgoblin simply swung its club once.
BOOOOOOM!!
The impact sounded like an explosion.
The swordsman desperately raised his blade to block...
CRACK!
His sword bent instantly.
The sheer force behind the strike smashed him directly into the ground hard enough to crack the earth beneath him.
"GUH..!"
Blood sprayed from the student’s mouth.
Before he could even recover, the Hobgoblin grabbed the Grey Wolf by the neck with one hand.
The summon struggled violently but it was Too late.
CRUNCH.
The Grey Wolf’s neck snapped instantly.
Its body dissolved into glowing particles before retreating back into the student’s summon mark.
The swordsman’s face lost all color.
A shattered summon, without external healing resources, recovery could take over a week. Inside the examination? That was practically the end of his score.
The student’s courage instantly collapsed.
"Ex..Extraction..." Light enveloped his body.
Then he vanished completely.
Nathan calmly watched everything unfold from the bushes.
"Figures."
Meanwhile, panic spread through the remaining students.
"Kyaaah!!"
One of the female Priests screamed as two Green Goblins suddenly pounced toward her after she stumbled backward.
Their ugly claws reached greedily toward her body while they cackled hideously.
"EXTRACTION! PLEASE EXTRACT ME!"
A bright flash of light appeared and she was gone.
The second Priest panicked immediately after seeing that. "I-I’m out too!"
Another flash and she was gone too.
Now only the Warrior and Archer remained.
"No way in hell I’m giving up!" the Warrior roared desperately.
He pointed forward dramatically.
"GET THEM, ELECTRIC RAT!"
A yellow mouse summon shot forward crackling violently with electricity.
The tiny creature slammed into two goblins and electrocuted them instantly.
For one brief moment the Warrior actually looked victorious.
Then the Hobgoblin’s club descended. SPLAT!
Nathan physically winced.
The Electric Rat exploded into particles instantly.
"...Damn." The Warrior stared blankly at his now-empty summon mark.
Then all confidence disappeared from his face.
"Welp," he muttered while glancing toward the Archer. "Good luck, bro."
"EXTRACTION!" a flash and he was Gone.
Now only the Archer remained. And his summon, a D-Rank Windy Hawk.
The large bird hovered protectively overhead while the Hobgoblin and remaining goblins slowly surrounded him from all directions.
The student visibly sweated under the pressure.
Then Unexpectedly He relaxed.
"...Yeah" he muttered. "I’m not as stupid as the rest of them."
He suddenly pointed upward dramatically. "WINDY HAWK!"
The giant hawk descended instantly before grabbing the student by the shoulders. Its wings exploded outward with tremendous force.
Powerful winds blasted through the forest, forcing the goblins backward long enough for the summon to rapidly gain altitude.
"Eat shit, losers!" the Archer yelled while flying away. His laughter gradually faded into the distance.
The goblins screeched furiously below. The Hobgoblin growled deeply before slowly turning back toward the forest.
Nathan narrowed his eyes, then a grin slowly spread across his face.
Sweat dripped down his forehead while he tightened his grip around his bow.
"...What do you think, Mirko?"
Mirko’s pink eyes gleamed excitedly.
Nathan looked toward the retreating monsters again. "Think we can take them?"
Mirko puffed out her tiny chest proudly.
’Master.’ Her nose twitched confidently.
’There is no ugly beast alive capable of overcoming our pristine coordination! Hmph!.’
