Chapter 8: 8. The Tutorial Realm (2)
After an entire week of waiting, the day of the Newbie Tutorial Realm Examination finally arrived.
Early that morning, Lucy tightly hugged Mirko against her chest one final time before Nathan prepared to leave.
"You better come back safely, okay?" Lucy muttered.
Mirko puffed out her tiny chest proudly.
’Do not worry, tiny human! Your great and powerful Bunny Guardian shall protect Master perfectly!’
Lucy obviously couldn’t hear her mental voice, but she still giggled after seeing the bunny’s dramatic expression.
Nathan smiled faintly before desummoning Mirko back into his summon mark.
Then, after saying goodbye to Lucy at the academy gate, he hailed a taxi and headed toward the examination grounds.
The location for the Newbie Tutorial Realm Examination resembled a gigantic coliseum.
Massive spectator stands stretched around the structure, large enough to house thousands of people at once. Students, academy staff, guild representatives, and even ordinary civilians had gathered to watch this year’s graduates attempt their first real combat examination.
At the center of the colossal arena stood the most eye-catching feature of all.
A gigantic metallic gate. And within that gate... A swirling dimensional vortex pulsed endlessly like a living storm.
Nathan narrowed his eyes slightly as he stared at it.
The entrance to the Tutorial Realm.
Humanity’s greatest technological achievement after the appearance of the Towers.
Instead of risking inexperienced graduates inside real Towers, the government and military had jointly created these artificial training realms decades ago.
Controlled environments. Monitored danger levels. Emergency extraction systems.
And low-level monsters specifically captured and implanted with tracking chips for examination purposes.
It was essentially humanity’s safest method of producing future Tower Climbers.
Nathan eventually entered the changing area alongside the other students.
Inside, he changed into the standardized combat suit provided by the academy.
The outfit resembled a black spandex-like armored bodysuit reinforced with thin mana-conductive layers. It wasn’t particularly fashionable, but it offered basic protection while allowing easy movement during combat.
More importantly... the suit possessed an emergency teleportation function.
If the system detected an incoming attack deemed fatal beyond the student’s defensive capacity, the armor would forcibly extract them from the Tutorial Realm instantly.
Of course... The keyword was if detected.
Fatal accidents still occasionally happened every year.
Nathan adjusted the gloves slightly before grabbing the weapon he had spent a large chunk of his savings on during the past week.
A D-Grade bow.
Alongside a matching quiver and twenty mana-compatible arrows.
Unlike most of his inexperienced classmates blessed with better summons capable of carrying entire fights alone, Nathan fully intended to participate directly in combat himself.
After finishing preparations, Nathan exited the changing room and entered the arena proper alongside the other graduates.
The atmosphere was electric.
Students nervously talked amongst themselves while the audience overhead cheered loudly from the spectator stands.
At the center stage, a well-dressed host amplified his voice through magic as he officially announced the beginning of this year’s Newbie Tutorial Realm Examination.
Nathan casually scanned the crowd.
Then his eyes landed on a familiar group nearby.
Derek Stone.
And beside him were Tyler and Reid.
The two idiots immediately began snickering after noticing Nathan looking toward them.
Nathan raised an eyebrow slightly.
Seriously?, After what happened last week, those two should have at minimum been suspended from participating in the examination entirely.
Clearly, Derek’s family had pulled some strings behind the scenes.
Nathan clicked his tongue internally.
Rich people truly operated by different rules.
Still... that wasn’t really his problem.
So instead, Nathan simply ignored them and focused his attention back toward the dimensional gate ahead.
At that moment, Headmaster Wilhelm stepped forward onto the central podium.
The old man’s amplified voice echoed across the arena.
"Students!"
The entire stadium gradually quieted.
"This examination is not merely a test of strength," Wilhelm continued calmly. "It is a test of judgment, adaptability, courage, and survival."
His gaze swept across the gathered graduates.
"Do not recklessly endanger yourselves trying to pursue points."
Several students swallowed nervously.
"If you encounter a challenge beyond your ability," the Headmaster continued, "there is no shame in requesting emergency extraction immediately."
Then a faint smile appeared on his face.
"Once again..."
"I wish you all the best of luck."
The crowd erupted into cheers.
And with a single gesture from the Headmaster, The examination officially began.
Students immediately started moving toward the dimensional gate.
Some entered individually.
Others entered in parties and teams.
Nathan noticed several weaker students practically scrambling to attach themselves to stronger summoners like Derek or Elise.
Which honestly made sense.
Inside the Tutorial Realm, numbers would matter, especially for weaker combatants.
Nathan, meanwhile, was completely ignored.
Not merely because his summon was F-Rank...
But because people genuinely believed his summon was just an ordinary bunny.
Nathan honestly preferred it that way. The less attention on him for now, the better.
Finally, Nathan stepped through the gate himself. The sensation felt strange, like passing through freezing water and burning heat simultaneously.
Then... The scenery changed instantly, Nathan found himself standing within a vast tropical forest.
Massive trees stretched endlessly into the distance while dense vegetation covered nearly every visible surface. Strange bird cries echoed from deeper within the jungle while humid air pressed heavily against his skin.
Nathan slowly looked around.
"So this is the Tutorial Realm..."
Then a familiar system notification appeared before him.
[Ding! Welcome to the Newbie Tutorial Realm Examination.]

Immediately afterward, another screen appeared displaying a list of monsters currently inhabiting the realm.
Each species had its corresponding point value listed beside it.

[Boss Monster, Berserk Ape: 1000 Points]
Nathan stared at the final entry for a moment.
"...Sheesh."
A thousand points.
That thing was probably designed specifically for a party of top-ranked prodigies to challenge, or probably wasn’t even meant for anybody to clear, just there for show.
Nathan closed the notification window before pulling up his own status screen.

Nathan nodded slightly.
During the past week, he had spent nearly all his free time training, repeatedly activating skills, Practicing archery.
Unfortunately, it seemed skill growth through ordinary practice had limits.
At their current level, both skills now required actual combat experience to progress further.
Just as Nathan finished checking his status....
DING!
Another system notification appeared.

Nathan blinked.
"...What the hell?"
Then he glanced at the timer.
Only five minutes had passed since the examination started.
Nathan clicked his tongue.
"Fucking Prodigies..."
He adjusted the quiver resting against his back before finally drawing his bow properly for the first time inside the realm.
Then he slowly stretched out one hand.
A summoning circle appeared beside him.
Mirko materialized instantly onto the ground.
The bunny looked around excitedly at the massive jungle environment before grinning.
’One order of Bunny fever coming right up, Master!’
