Chapter 5: 5. Illegal Borrow of a summon
Reid lay sprawled across the cracked pavement, trembling violently.
A dark wet stain had spread beneath him and the sharp smell of urine was mixing unpleasantly with the lingering heat radiating from the restrained Magma Bear. His face was pale, his breathing uneven, and whatever arrogance he had earlier was now completely gone.
Behind him floated his contracted summon, the D-Rank sky Fairy.
Its small translucent body shook in terror while hiding behind Reid’s shoulder. The earlier roar from the berserk Magma Bear had completely frightened the tiny creature into submission. Even its glowing blue wings fluttered weakly, as though it might collapse from fear at any moment.
"Useless... fucking summon..." Reid muttered bitterly under his breath.
The sky Fairy visibly flinched.
Then, with a frustrated wave of his hand, Reid forcefully dismissed it back into his summoning mark. The creature dissolved into particles of blue light before disappearing completely.
"Mr. Reid." freewēbnoveℓ.com
Professor Helena’s voice sliced through the chaotic atmosphere with a terrifying clarity as the muttering surrounding students instantly fell silent. Even the restrained Magma Bear seemed quieter beneath the crackling lightning chains binding its body.
Helena slowly stepped forward, the heels of her shoes clicking sharply against the fractured pavement as arcs of electricity occasionally flashed behind her from the Thunderbird hovering overhead.
Her silver eyes locked onto Reid. "Am I to understand," she began calmly, "that this berserk Magma Bear belongs to you?"
Reid’s body stiffened.
"But unless my memory has suddenly failed me," Helena continued, adjusting her glasses slightly, "your registered summon should be a D-Rank sky Fairy."
A dangerous pressure slowly spread from her. "So perhaps," she said, her tone becoming colder, "you would care to explain how a fresh graduate came into possession of another summon?"
Reid lowered his head even further as sweat rolled down the side of his face.Several nearby students nervously glanced at one another but nobody dared to speak.
"Illegal summon borrowing without proper authorization," Helena continued, "is considered a criminal offense under academy and guild law."
The professor’s gaze shifted briefly toward the restrained Magma Bear before returning to Reid. "Especially when the summon in question is this emotionally unstable."
Reid remained completely silent. His fists trembled weakly against the ground while humiliation and fear warred visibly across his face. Whatever confidence he had earlier had been utterly crushed alongside Tyler’s Rock Hound.
Speaking of Tyler... Nathan glanced around briefly but he was gone. The bastard had apparently fled the moment Professor Helena arrived. Nathan almost respected the survival instincts.
At that moment, Nathan quietly took a slow step backward.
Then another.
Mirko casually hopped beside him as though they weren’t attempting to escape a crime scene.
’Master,’ Mirko whispered mentally, ’are we fleeing?’
’We are strategically repositioning ourselves away from possible legal complications,’ Nathan corrected internally.
’Ahh... sophisticated fleeing.’
Nathan ignored her.
He slowly turned around... then!
"Mr. Nathanael Cross."
Nathan froze instantly.
Professor Helena’s gaze had shifted directly onto him.
"...Yes, Professor?" Nathan replied carefully.
For a moment, Helena simply observed him silently, then her eyes drifted toward the tiny green bunny sitting proudly beside his feet.
Mirko puffed out her tiny chest immediately under the attention. Nathan internally begged her not to do anything weird.
"You defended yourself surprisingly well," Helena finally said.
Nathan blinked in surprise. That was not what he expected.
"There may," Helena continued after a brief pause, "actually be some hope for you after all."
Nathan nearly coughed. Coming from Professor Helena, someone infamous for being brutally strict with students, that statement sounded dangerously close to praise.
The surrounding students looked equally shocked. Some even stared at Nathan differently now. After all, regardless of how the battle ended, everyone present had witnessed something undeniable:
An F-Grade student with an F-Rank bunny summon had successfully survived against both an E-Rank Rock Hound and a C-Rank Magma Bear. ƒreewebɳovel.com
That alone should have been impossible.
Professor Helena’s silver eyes narrowed slightly as she continued observing Mirko.
Nathan immediately noticed the suspicion in her expression. And honestly? She had every reason to be suspicious.
A weak bunny summon should not have displayed that level of agility, awareness, or coordination. More importantly, Nathan himself should never have been capable of directing the battle as effectively as he did.
Not with his rank. Not with his aptitude. And certainly not against opponents with superior summons.
Helena folded her arms slowly as her sharp gaze lingered on Mirko for several seconds longer. ’Perhaps... That magical phenomenon during its summoning truly wasn’t normal after all.’
