Chapter 4: 4. Battle Brawl (2)

The difference between an F-Rank summon and a C-Rank summon was not something that could normally be overcome through strategy, courage, or determination alone.

A single C-Rank beast possessed enough raw power to massacre dozens of lower-ranked creatures without sustaining meaningful injury. Their bodies were tougher, their instincts sharper, and their mana output existed on an entirely different scale.

The Magma Bear was especially infamous among C-Rank summons.

A monster whose burning hide melted steel, whose claws could tear apart rock and whose roar alone was enough to paralyze weaker beasts with fear.

Against such a creature, an F-Rank Bunny should not have lasted even a second.

That was the natural law of summoning combat.

But Nathan Cross was determined to become the sole exception, of course.

His plan was actually quite simple.

Using the enhanced visual clarity granted by his [Sharp Eyes] skill, he could vaguely perceive weak points and flaws in movement.

The skill was still only Level 1, so the openings weren’t perfectly clear, but even that small advantage was more than enough for someone like Nathan.

The Magma Bear’s massive body generated terrifying power, but its weight caused slight delays whenever it shifted direction. The Rock Hound, despite its speed, had a predictable rhythm whenever it circled around its target.

To ordinary people, those flaws were impossible to notice mid-battle. But to Nathan, whose senses had been sharpened beyond normal limits, they stood out just enough.

His strategy wasn’t to overpower them, that would be impossible. Instead, he intended to use Mirko’s speed and small size to repeatedly strike at vulnerable areas, disrupting the two summons and throwing their coordination into chaos.

That was all he needed.

Against Unexperienced opponents who relied entirely on brute force, even the smallest disruption could completely shift the flow of battle.

"GET HIM, MAGMA BEAR!"

"GET HIM, ROCK HOUND!"

The moment they gave the commands, the Magma Bear moved.

The gigantic beast lunged forward with terrifying speed despite its massive body, each step leaving faint burn marks across the pavement beneath its burning paws. Heat distorted the air around it as it opened its jaws and released a deafening roar that made several nearby students instinctively recoil.

Nathan’s gaze sharpened immediately.

"Move!" he shouted.

To which Mirko reacted at once.

[Quick Reflex] activated almost instinctively as the small bunny vanished in a green blur from her spot a split second before the Magma Bear’s claw smashed into the ground where she had been standing.

The impact exploded across the pavement, chunks of stone and dust blasting into the air alongside waves of unbearable heat.

Several students screamed and stumbled backward while filming.

’That thing’s huge!’ Mirko’s voice echoed inside Nathan’s head as she rapidly hopped away from the spreading heat. ’And ugly! Very ugly!’

Nathan ignored her commentary and focused entirely on the Magma Bear’s movements.

Under the effects of [Sharp Eyes], the world around him felt unnaturally clear. Every shift in muscle movement, every delay in balance, every flaw in momentum became just barely visible to him.

The bear was powerful, but its size made its turns slightly sluggish. And that was enough.

"Left leg," Nathan muttered.

Mirko immediately changed direction.

The tiny bunny shot low across the ground and rammed herself directly against the back of the Magma Bear’s rear knee.

[Headbutt] activated.

The attack itself barely dealt damage. In fact, several students burst out laughing at the sight, but the timing was perfect.

The Magma Bear’s balance shifted awkwardly for half a second, causing its next step to stumble slightly.

Reid frowned. "What the hell?"

Before the bear could recover, Tyler’s Rock Hound darted forward aggressively. The creature circled around Nathan and Mirko before suddenly lunging toward the bunny with its jaws wide open.

Mirko squeaked and jumped upward just in time.

Using [Soft Landing], she twisted herself midair and lightly rebounded off a broken chunk of pavement before narrowly avoiding the bite.

Nathan’s eyes immediately caught another opening, the Rock Hound always exposed its right side whenever it committed fully to a leap.

"There!" Nathan shouted.

Mirko reacted instantly through their mental link. Using the momentum from her dodge, she kicked off the Magma Bear’s shoulder and slammed directly into the Rock Hound’s exposed flank.

[Headbutt] activated once again.

A sharp crack rang out as the beast lost balance mid-pounce and crashed shoulder-first into the Magma Bear instead.

"Watch where you’re going, idiot!" Tyler yelled.

The Magma Bear growled deeply in irritation as molten saliva dripped from its mouth. Its burning eyes shifted briefly toward the Rock Hound before locking back onto Mirko again.

Nathan noticed it immediately, the beast was getting frustrated and that was good.

The fight continued.

Again and again, Mirko used her small body and unpredictable movements to harass the two summons while Nathan guided her with precise instructions through [Sharp Eyes].

"Duck."

"Jump right."

"Rear ankle."

"Now retreat."

The coordination between them became strangely seamless.

[Quick Reflex] allowed Mirko to evade attacks by mere centimeters while Nathan continuously analyzed openings faster and faster through [Sharp Eyes].

Mirko would strike vulnerable joints or blind spots at exactly the right moment before immediately retreating. Individually, her attacks were harmless, but collectively, they were becoming infuriating.

The Magma Bear’s breathing gradually grew rougher. Its movements became more aggressive and less controlled with every failed attack. Meanwhile, the Rock Hound was beginning to panic under Tyler’s increasingly frantic commands.

"Cut it off!"

"Don’t let the rabbit move around!"

"Bite it already!"

The battlefield slowly descended into chaos. At one point, Mirko deliberately baited the Magma Bear into charging toward her before narrowly leaping aside at the last possible second.

Using [Soft Landing], she absorbed the impact from her sharp midair turn and escaped cleanly.

The massive beast failed to stop in time and crashed directly into the Rock Hound. The collision sent Tyler’s summon tumbling violently across the ground.

"What the hell are you doing?!" Tyler shouted at Reid.

"I didn’t tell it to do that!" Reid snapped back.

Nathan’s eyes narrowed.

The synchronization was breaking down.

Borrowed summons were notoriously unstable in battle. Unlike contracted summons that formed long-term bonds with their masters, temporarily borrowed beasts lacked proper compatibility and emotional synchronization.

And the stronger the summon...

...the more dangerous that instability became.

Mirko suddenly darted forward again.

Nathan saw the opening instantly through [Sharp Eyes].

"Eye. Now!"

Mirko launched herself upward and slammed directly into one of the Magma Bear’s eyes.

[Headbutt] activated. The damage was still insignificant, but it was the final straw.

"ROOOOOOOAR!!!"

The Magma Bear exploded into rage as a violent wave of heat erupted from its body as molten cracks spread wildly beneath its feet. Its pupils shrank as its attention abruptly shifted.

Not toward Mirko but toward the Rock Hound.

Tyler’s face paled instantly. "Wa...Wait!"

The Magma Bear lunged.

The Rock Hound barely managed to dodge the first swipe, but the second attack caught it directly across the side and slammed it into the pavement with terrifying force.

"REID! CONTROL YOUR DAMN SUMMON!"

"I’M TRYING!"

Reid’s expression had completely changed now. Sweat poured down his face as he desperately attempted to issue commands through his summoning mark.

But the Magma Bear no longer listened.

The beast had gone berserk. Its body radiated uncontrollable mana fluctuations as it grabbed the Rock Hound with both molten claws.

The hound let out a desperate howl before the Magma Bear slammed it violently into the ground. Once. Twice. Then...

CRUNCH.

The Rock Hound’s body shattered into glowing particles that scattered into the air before retreating back into Tyler’s summoning mark. freewёbnoνel.com

The entire area fell silent as Tyler stared blankly at his hand in horror. "My summon..."

Then the Magma Bear slowly turned around, Its burning eyes locked onto Reid.

Nathan immediately understood the problem.

When a borrowed summon completely loses synchronization with its temporary master, the creature could begin perceiving everyone nearby as hostile, including the summoner himself.

Reid stumbled backward, his face pale.

"Wa..Wait... calm down..."

The Magma Bear roared and charged straight toward him.

Panic instantly spread through the students nearby as people began screaming and scattering in every direction. Reid fell backward onto the ground just as the massive burning claw descended toward him.

And then lightning exploded across the battlefield.

A deafening crack split through the air as chains made entirely of blue electricity descended from above and wrapped tightly around the Magma Bear’s body.

The beast roared violently and struggled against them, but every movement only caused the lightning to tighten further around its limbs.

Students stared upward in stunned silence.

Hovering high above the battlefield was an enormous bird covered in crackling blue feathers. Arcs of electricity danced across its wings while golden eyes glowed with overwhelming power.

This beast was someone’s summon, a C-Rank Thunderbird That was clearly higher in level than the magma bear. free𝑤ebnovel.com

And standing calmly Nearby was a tall woman wearing the academy’s professor coat.

Professor Helena.

Her silver eyes scanned the destroyed battlefield, the terrified students, and the restrained Magma Bear before narrowing dangerously.

"...Would someone" she said coldly, "care to explain why I’m witnessing an unsanctioned summon battle involving a berserk C-Rank beast?"
