Chapter 126: More Days of Work

With 12 rooms in total, 6 on either side, what would be the best layout?

On the left side the last 3 rooms will get turned into a library. Then the first 3 rooms on the right side will get turned into a multimedia room.

I don’t know what to do with the rest. I was thinking about a workshop, but I would rather build another little warehouse for that.

I still have Xue Qing’s bodyguards staying here so I would have to put off the plans a little. I could have them bunk with a roommate, but I would have to get a second bed for that.

I guess they could just sleep in one bed, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable about that.

You have to be weary about upsetting the people who protect you.

Wait, I could just move the beds they are already sleeping on into the other rooms.

For the rest of the day I ordered a big dumpster. That way when I started demolishing the stated rooms I could get rid of the trash.

...

Tuesday, I spent time gardening. Cleaning out the interior courtyard and the outer courtyard.

I didn’t realize, but the outer courtyard had a few absolutely beautiful Black Pine trees. With a little more grooming they would be absolutely celestial. They would have come right out of an immortal fantasy.

They were covered in vines and surrounded by other quick growing trees.

With the overgrowth removed I just needed to prune it a little.

I removed the tall grass and freshened up the moss. The moss was an unhealthy dark green color. It had spent too much time competing for sunlight. Hopefully now it will get adequate sunlight.

...

Wednesday, the accordion doors arrived.

Using the help of the body guards again I took out all of the floor to ceiling windows. They were large panes of glass, so inevitably 2 of them broke. Not shattered, but one snapped into three pieces in the middle and the other snapped off a corner.

I wasn’t bothered by that and just continued working. I installed both the top and bottom sliding tracks along with the frame. Then we lifted the door into place. It was actually disgustingly easy. You just had to click the pins into place.

The frame fit nicely against the wooden support beams and the seals on the doors were nice and tight.

In one day we put in the entire dining room’s wall.

We even had time to start on the other two wings but I decided to call it a day.

...

Thursday. We did the right wing’s hallway wall.

...

Friday. We did the left wing’s hallway wall.

...

Both Saturday and Sunday, Xue Qing and I went around exploring the area. We also visited the other nearby towns.

...

Monday we installed the inner courtyard’s accordion doors.

...

Tuesday. Since we had gotten comfortable installing the doors we decided to try and install the floor to ceiling windows upstairs.

I initially was going to hire help, but I thought of a way to do it ourselves. I got up on a ladder and screwed in a few cross boards. That way the windows couldn’t fall out. They could only fall in.

Now just like the downstairs we carefully removed the large glass panes and moved them downstairs to the large collection we have amassed.

Then we carried the new double paned insulated windows upstairs.

My biggest relief is that the stairs are pretty much a straight shot up with lots of clearance. While working in teams we managed to install all of the living room’s windows.

...

Wednesday. We did the same thing to install all of the inner courtyard’s second floor’s windows.

Now all of the windows except for the last rooms on each wing were done.

The last windows would require actual structural changes that require a permit. So, now I have to put in the request.

I sent in the request. I have no idea how long it will take since the request was for all of the things I currently wanted to do.

The windows, library, and home movie theatre.

I also had thoughts about a driveway and gates, but those would come later.

It would be a pain to have to keep opening the gate for all of the deliveries. Like the dumpster that showed up today.

...

Thursday. Today I started the demolition. I didn’t have the permit so I couldn’t do anything structural. But the drop ceiling in the rooms? They could go.

First I moved the beds.

Then I worked the whole day removing the drop ceiling. They had hung the wires from the wooden joist. Luckily they had only left a few small indentations that you couldn’t see unless you were really looking for it.

I took out every part, the metal framing, the wires, the cardboard tiles, and the old can lighting.

The rafters looked amazing. However, I think that I will still insulate the roof and close off the underside of the roof.

I like the rafters, but I like being warm better. The exposed joist beams are what I’m really after anyway.

One thing I didn’t think about is how much room is actually up there and how dark that space actually gets.

There are a lot of crisscrossing joist beams. They are different from what I’m used to and personally I like them better.

The organic peeled tree trucks that act as a major support for the structure is something that should be seen by the world. It is a major statement piece for the building as a whole. I actually really like that feature.

I need to get some up lighting in the vaulted ceiling, but I will be sure to put them on dimmers.

Otherwise I wouldn’t be able to focus in the library. I would spend all of my time either looking at the ceiling or looking out of the future windows. So, dimmers and curtains will be added to the shopping list.
