Chapter 683: Chapter 683: Deputy Commander of the War God Guard

"We are willing!" the crowd shouted in unison. "We are all willing to follow the War God King to achieve great things!"

Among them, some were sincere in their desire to follow the War God King, but others were simply trying to stay alive. Although the battlefield was dangerous, it still offered a chance to live. Refusing to go, however, was a death sentence, as Yang Qi would likely kill them all.

"Very good. With all of you joining, the Dragon Country’s Western Territory is fortunate," the War God King said with a smile.

He had been wondering how to acquire such a group of people on this trip back and never expected a solution to present itself so easily. This is practically a gift from Yang Qi.

"Yang Qi, you have performed a great service for the Dragon Country!" the War God King said, clapping Yang Qi on the shoulder. "The front is urgent, so I cannot stay long. I will help you train these men. Consider them on loan; I will return them to you in the future."

"You are too kind, War God King," Yang Qi said with a smile. "I’m just a commoner. What would I do with so many people? Please, feel free to use them as you see fit."

"Hahaha, there are many things in this world you don’t yet understand. In the future, you will have use for these people. Enough talk. Do you need my help to take care of Gu Zhiyuan?" the War God King asked with a laugh.

"No, thank you. I can handle it myself," Yang Qi replied with a nod.

"Alright, then. If you need anything, just contact me. You have my number. I might not answer calls from others, but I will always answer yours." The War God King chuckled and handed Yang Qi a badge and an ID card. "You might have use for this in the future. I hope you will accept it. Think of it as your official status. If you ever run into trouble, show this. It might bring some unexpected benefits."

Yang Qi was momentarily stunned. He opened the ID card and his eyes widened in shock.

Printed on the card was the official title: "Martial Arts Commander of the War God Guard."

Yang Qi certainly knew of the War God Guard. They were a group of true powerhouses personally cultivated by the War God King. Though there were only three thousand of them, they were extraordinarily powerful—the most terrifying force under the War God King’s command when it came to individual combat ability.

It was said that the Commander of this unit was none other than the White Tiger, one of the War God King’s Five Divine Generals. He was a terrifying, legendary figure who had once led the War God Guard to annihilate an entire nation overnight. And that nation was by no means weak. No one could imagine how they had done it, but they had succeeded without the War God King even lifting a finger.

And now, the War God King is actually giving me the position of Deputy Commander of the War God Guard?

"Isn’t this inappropriate?" Yang Qi asked quickly.

"There’s nothing inappropriate about it," the War God King said, patting Yang Qi on the shoulder with a smile. "You saved me, which in turn saved the War God Guard. I’m not giving you this to tie you down, but to provide you with a safety net and an identity. At the very least, others will think twice before disrespecting you. You must remember, I am the one standing behind you."

"Since you put it that way, I’ll accept," Yang Qi said. "However, as the Deputy Commander of the War God Guard, I can’t accept this without giving something in return. Please, stay one more day. I want to refine some Elixirs for the War God Guard to take with you. Consider it a token of my commitment."

"Alright, no problem," the War God King agreed happily. "I’ll have my men escort these fellows out first. I’ll leave after you finish refining the Elixirs."

Any increase in the War God Guard’s Combat Power would be a great benefit to both him and the Dragon Country.

And so, the Martial Artists of the Tianhai Association were escorted by the War God King’s subordinates to the Western Territory to begin their training and serve the country. Meanwhile, with the help of Chen Guo, Yao Ran, and the others, Yang Qi refined Elixirs through the night.

He handed them to the War God King, who only then departed.

This time, Yang Qi adamantly refused any payment. The War God King’s support was payment enough. To him, who was still far from reaching an invincible realm, it was invaluable. Without the War God King’s backing, he truly felt that he couldn’t stand alone. Now, with such a powerful figure behind him, he was no longer so concerned, even about facing Lin Qingxuan’s Lin Family.

「Far away in Sea City」

Gu Zhiyuan’s trip was a waste; he had failed to meet the War God King. Just as he was about to return to Thunder City to arrange a funeral, he received a piece of news that he found almost impossible to believe.

Gu Mingwu was dead!

The five Great Elders were also dead!

The remaining Martial Artists had all vanished without a trace.

According to the rumors, the one behind it all was the owner of the Star Shining Society, a figure whose status was even higher than Ye Feng’s.

"How could this be!" Gu Zhiyuan seemed to age many years in an instant. He never imagined that so much could happen while he was gone for only half a day. Jin Xing was merely his disciple. But Gu Mingwu was his own blood brother, and he had died under such mysterious circumstances.

"I must have vengeance for this! To Thunder City, now!" Gu Zhiyuan roared.

"Chairman, calm your anger," Zhou Ran, one of the four remaining Elders, said hurriedly. "We have clearly underestimated the power of the Star Shining Society. For them to accomplish all this in a single day, they must be extraordinary. I believe we need to plan this carefully."

"Plan it carefully? Are you telling me to be a coward and hide in my shell?" Gu Zhiyuan bellowed.

Zhou Ran sighed. "How about this, Chairman? The three of us will go to Thunder City first to investigate and try to capture either Ye Feng or Li Qingyan. Those two seem to have a close relationship with the owner of the Star Shining Society. Sea City is our territory. We’ll bring the two of them back here and force the owner of the Star Shining Society to come alone. Once he’s on our turf, we can eliminate him."

Gu Zhiyuan gradually calmed down. A large group would be easily spotted, but if Zhou Ran and the other two infiltrated Thunder City, they would be much harder to detect. Any one of the three Elders might not be a match for Ye Feng alone, but together, capturing him wouldn’t be a problem. Li Qingyan would be even easier. Her only bodyguard was Black Widow, who, while not weak, was no match for them. They could kidnap the two of them without anyone being the wiser.

"Good. I will wait in Sea City for your good news," Gu Zhiyuan said coldly. "And rest assured, I won’t be idle. The Guest Elders of our Tianhai Association should also act. They’ve taken our money in times of peace; now it’s time for them to serve the Tianhai Association."

Few knew that the Tianhai Association had hidden forces, assets prepared for just such an emergency. I never expected I’d have to use them this time. What a surprise... these hidden assets can only be used once, but if I don’t use them now, the Tianhai Association will likely be destroyed. Who would have thought that the insignificant Star Shining Society could be so powerful? It’s truly unexpected.

Thus, they split into two groups.

Zhou Ran and the other two Elders quietly infiltrated Thunder City. Although Huang Borren’s intelligence network was formidable, it couldn’t possibly detect them immediately.

Zhou Ran’s first target was Li Qingyan, since she was an easier target.
