Chapter 83: Chapter 83: I Have Another Question!
Xiong Jie and Jiang Che each still had a Life Essence in their hands, about the size of a fingernail, giving off a purple glow as soon as they took it out.
The scent of Life Energy was incredibly tempting.
Fanben saw the new flesh growing on Jiang Che and Xiong Jie, traces of fresh, pinkish-white skin everywhere, covering a large area.
This new skin would gradually blend with the surrounding skin tone, until eventually, there’d be no way to tell the difference.
"Was that liquid corrosion really that bad? You had to use this stuff?" Fanben looked at Jiang Che, obviously wanting him to answer.
Xiong Jie saw they were questioning Jiang Che and didn’t interrupt.
To be honest, he also wanted to keep this thing for himself.
All this about recovering skin and looks—for Xiong Jie, those were minor things.
In an era like this, who the hell cares if their appearance is corroded or not? The only thing that mattered was keeping this thing—it could save his life one day.
He wasn’t like Jiang Che. Jiang Che had three, and might even get more in the future.
But he only had one.
The most surprising part was that Jiang Che actually gave him one of his.
Just now, he’d made up the lie about him and Jiang Che each having two and using one each.
Xiong Jie looked steadily at Jiang Che, who was having a mic shoved in his face, his eyes growing deeper.
Jiang Che’s move actually made the whole thing add up.
At first, he didn’t expect these people would be able to sense the Life Essence hidden on the two of them.
After all, before today, he was just an ordinary guy,
—a regular guy with an item list.
He’d never actually been this close to these Survivors who’d cleared so many Dungeons before.
He knew about the Flying Tiger organization, and had heard of their structure.
You had to escape from a Dungeon at least three times to even qualify as a squad captain.
So, this Fanben guy had cleared it at least three times.
No matter what grade of Dungeon, it wasn’t something normal humans could clear.
Surviving three Dungeons was proof enough this guy was strong all around.
When he mentioned that Jiang Che and he each had one, he saw Fanben frown and then nod.
Xiong Jie wasn’t some greenhorn like Jiang Che—he didn’t know much about these more experienced Survivors, but he could figure some things out.
Jiang Che didn’t have any item to hide energy auras on him—and neither did he.
The purple Life Essence’s aura was so strong, you couldn’t hide it if you tried.
If Jiang Che still had two left, he wouldn’t even know how to explain it to these people; how would he explain why the psycho’s life-saving Essence is more than his?
If Jiang Che hadn’t given him that Essence, he wouldn’t want to use the one he had, either.
If, hypothetically, not using Life Essence wouldn’t kill you, there’d be no way to explain to the Flying Tiger Squad why he was still covered in wounds but Jiang Che was completely fine.
But once Jiang Che gave him one, now they each had one left.
Everything suddenly made sense.
He glanced coolly at Jiang Che’s direction. Jiang Che looked a little lost with the mic in his face, glanced at him in confusion.
Xiong Jie nodded at him.
"The liquid really is vicious. I could feel, since we got out, the wounds kept getting bigger, the leftover corrosive liquid on the surface didn’t disappear; it kept spreading. Without treatment, you’ll die very soon."
Jiang Che answered seriously, as if he really had analyzed the whole situation.
Xiong Jie’s expression didn’t change, but inside he was shaken.
He was wondering, after coming out of the Dungeon, how Jiang Che’s body stats would differ.
Clearly, Jiang Che was way more enhanced than him now.
At least, he didn’t have these kinds of perceptions.
Fanben heard Jiang Che’s answer and couldn’t help frowning; he started to suspect if this kid’s brain was actually messed up.
Sure enough, Fanben glanced at the bullet screen; the viewers started questioning Jiang Che too.
[Didn’t you say he was brain damaged?]
[He answers so clearly. Looks pretty lucid to me, no sign of brain problems.]
[Interrogate him again! Is this guy just pretending?]
[When asked about Skill Books, he acts dumb, but on other topics he’s crystal clear?]
...
Xiong Jie saw the bullet comments too, but didn’t care.
Because this kid’s problem really was with his brain, just not his intelligence.
After meeting Jiang Che, he finally understood: mental illness isn’t mental retardation. It’s just a shame so many people equate the two.
Fanben fell into thought, couldn’t help tapping the polygraph next to him. Was it broken?
"Qin, I saw a water dispenser over there. Grab me a glass, will you?" He was feeling a bit tired.
"On it, Captain Fan." Qin replied at once.
"I have a question." Hearing them talk, Jiang Che raised his hand.
"What is it?"
"I never got it—since water is coming out of that thing, why don’t we call it a water-out machine?" Jiang Che asked earnestly.
He’d asked the nurses at the hospital this question before, but nobody ever answered him.
Now, hearing someone mention the dispenser, the old question popped up again.
Fanben’s eyes went wide—this question fried his CPU on the spot.
"Humans should be called water-in machines! What you guys call a ’water dispenser’ should be called a water-out machine." Jiang Che said seriously.
Fanben stared at the polygraph in horror, then couldn’t help blurting, "I like men."
As soon as he said it, the polygraph started frantically beeping—beep beep beep beep.
That meant...the polygraph wasn’t broken!
If it wasn’t broken—Fanben looked at Jiang Che in panic. So he really did think that way!
Xiong Jie froze, and froze, and froze again, then looked at Jiang Che and nodded hard. "You’re absolutely right."
Just from that reply, the audience could hear his utter helplessness.
[That’s pure helplessness, for real.]
[Xiong Jie: I told you his brain’s messed up, but you wouldn’t believe me.]
[Hearing this question, I’m lost too. Why isn’t it called a water-out machine? Now my brain’s cooked.]
[He really doesn’t have a brain problem—he’s just overthinking a water dispenser. I can tell he’s really pondering hard...]
[But what if the polygraph is really broken?]
[Then that means Captain Fan really likes men!]
...
Fanben looked at the bullet screen annoyed. Like hell he liked men!
"Captain Fan... here’s your water..." Qin brought over a glass and set it in front of Fanben.
"I have another question." Jiang Che raised his hand again.
"Ugh—" Fanben nearly choked on his water, then nodded. "Go ahead."
"At the hospital, people always talked about sashimi and raw fish. But sashimi is sliced dead fish—raw fish is dead fish cut into slices—so why isn’t ’life’ just dead person slices?"
