Chapter 44: Chapter 44: Whoever Goes Now Is a Fool!
Jiang Che led the two of them back, one in each hand.
Tuantuan was on the left, secretly watching Ding Ning.
She sized up Ding Ning and Jiang Che, noting how their fingers were intertwined, her gaze furtive and sly.
Watching Jiang Che holding Ding Ning’s hand, about to leave her own territory to search for so-called parents, Tuantuan stared even harder.
She watched as Ding Ning stepped out of her domain without a hint of hesitation.
As she left, she waved her hand, and the evil spirit guarding the territory crawled out from the shadows.
Even if she wasn’t here, she wouldn’t let humans mess around in this area.
Leaving her territory, she frowned. Ever since she’d connected with the Human Realm, she’d come to like that environment, decorating her domain to resemble it. Now, stepping out of the castle, she found the outside dirtier than her own area, a heavy dust wafting in the air.
After Jiang Che left this area, the viewer count in his livestream dropped rapidly.
Because the audience couldn’t believe Jiang Che really just left like that.
The exit was right there! And he just left?
The farther Jiang Che moved from the exit, the fewer people stayed in his stream.
Everyone could only spectate one person at a time; as Jiang Che left the exit behind, they all logged off his stream to check others, to see if any other Survivor could escape.
The glow of the exit was dazzling, and as it opened, it guided Survivors inside the Dungeon.
In that moment, the Survivors were like a tiny boat drifting in a boundless sea at night, suddenly spotting a guiding lighthouse.
In the confusion and darkness, seeing the beacon of home brought those hiding in the shadows rushing out, and the hope that had been crushed flared up again.
The light from the exit vanished quickly, and everyone’s sense of direction faded just as fast.
In a shadowed corner, three people crouched, gasping for breath.
The trio stared at the glow in confusion, because it pointed right where they’d just escaped from.
Li had already returned the lighter to the woman. "Sister Xia, sorry, it was my fault, but honestly, Zhao Qiang isn’t innocent either, right?"
"If he hadn’t always been eyeing my items, I wouldn’t have gotten suspicious in the end."
Just thinking how their trio almost got wiped out because of him made Li panic.
"I told you, we really couldn’t win," baseball guy Zhao Qiang said helplessly. Swinging his bat really burned energy, and he knew priorities—even if he wanted that music box, he wouldn’t choose now to make a move.
"I don’t blame you two, just didn’t expect that evil spirit to be so strong." The woman called Sister Xia waved her hand, hastily ending their quarrel.
"We said before entering the Dungeon, no matter what, don’t double-cross each other." Sister Xia played with the lighter in her hand. "And now the exit’s open, that direction..."
Sister Xia fell silent, and the other two said nothing.
They could tell—with just twenty minutes, they could make it back.
But none of them suggested going right now.
"Let’s wait. Tomorrow, once our dungeon item uses reset, we’ll go. We already know the spot, and we have one day left. No rush, let’s rest and recover."
"And we can watch, see how many people die over there."
Thinking of that evil, smiling little kid made her break out in a cold sweat. "Our guess was right. That Little Evil Spirit must be tied to the exit. She’s definitely the key."
The other two stopped fighting, curling up in their corners and nodding.
This is Dungeon 9. Even knowing where the exit is, it’s not that easy to get out.
"Bet it’s because the evil spirit couldn’t find us after our escape and just opened the door to lure us back." Sister Xia sneered. Why else would the exit open and close so fast?
"Anyone who goes now is an idiot!" Sister Xia said with absolute certainty.
"Let today’s batch go and die, then those of us left alive can team up with whoever remains for a last push."
Their trio had the most viewers right now, though they didn’t know it.
Because they had the best shot, and were closest to the goal.
Everyone figured if they doubled back, they could find some clues, maybe even dig up Ya’s grave and recover the body.
Except for Jiang Che, heading away from the exit, nearly all Survivors were on the move, running toward the exit.
But everyone else was too far, needing at least an hour to get there.
Here, Sister Xia’s group of three were the closest.
[So... so cautious...]
[Go now! Now’s actually the safest, plus the three of them know the spot best! They have the highest chance of finding and escaping!]
[This is killing me, do they have any guts at all?]
[Jiang Che took the evil spirit away, gave everyone a perfect shot at escaping, but no one realizes it.]
...
Everyone helplessly watched the trio turtle up in the corner like stubborn tortoises, not moving.
Switching cams to other Survivors, most were badly injured—not everyone had combo skills or managed to find their teammates in the Dungeon.
The fastest made it to the site in about an hour.
But they’d been too far before, so even after arriving, they couldn’t locate the exact spot, not even a clear area.
A group carefully scoured the manor, searching for the exit’s direction, their eyes lost, hiding and sneaking wherever they could.
Ding Ning sensed tons of humans invading her domain. She just chuckled, lifting a finger into the air; no one saw what gesture she made.
But Tuantuan felt it—in the manor behind them, several powerful presences woke up.
"Daddy, where are Grandma and Grandpa?"
Tuantuan tugged at Jiang Che’s arm, childlike and sweet.
Jiang Che felt the warmth from the bracelet on his wrist; it had always been guiding him.
If he strayed, it heated up.
"We’re almost there, maybe half an hour left." Jiang Che walked quickly—though it wasn’t exactly him being fast, he just felt the distance shrinking.
Ding Ning kept using the Ground Shrinking art, so every time Jiang Che adjusted his route, she cut the distance for him.
But the closer they got, the more a shadow of worry crossed her brow.
Because up ahead was the direction of the Blood Slaughter Couple.
If Jiang Che’s parents were hiding in other evil spirits’ territory, they might have survived; here, they definitely couldn’t hide!
