Chapter 34: Chapter 34: Are You Jiang Che’s Daughter, Looking for Your Mom?!
Hearing voices, the people Ya called out to hurriedly found cover before cautiously looking back.
"Don’t come any closer. Who are you?" The newcomer eyed Ya warily, holding their weapon in front as a warning.
The group Ya greeted was a team of three, each of them holding a gun.
Two men and one woman, all three had various weapons visibly equipped on their bodies.
In a place where firearms were useless against evil spirits, the guns in their hands were clearly for defense against humans.
But that was only on the surface—who knew if they had hidden means prepared for evil spirits as well?
"I’m Nurse Ya from the mental hospital!" Ya quickly introduced herself.
Hearing her, the woman in the group nodded. "I’ve seen the files before—she really exists."
Ya scrutinized the three. They didn’t look like ordinary survivors. They’d actually gone through the files of everyone in the dungeon before entering; normal people would never do that.
Just like herself—despite thinking she knew the staff inside out, and having controlled Jiang Che for a long time with his "weakness," she realized she still didn’t know everyone in the hospital.
For example, these three in front of her—she had no idea who they were.
Because of the Celestial Destiny Circle, many wealthy people had come to Red Pearl Mental Hospital. They usually disliked being disturbed by staff, so there were many she didn’t recognize.
"Who is she?"
Seeing that Ya wasn’t armed, they aimed their guns at Tuantuan behind her instead.
Ya felt the dark barrel of the gun shift slightly away from herself and secretly breathed a sigh of relief—but quickly, the woman locked her gaze on Tuantuan and spoke up.
"There wasn’t a child this big in the files!" she blurted out.
Just as Ya sensed, these weren’t ordinary survivors. They’d escaped alive from another dungeon before, earning special items each.
After leaving that dungeon, they naturally formed a team.
This world wasn’t suitable for lone wolves; the three, with their escape experience, found it only logical to join forces.
The trio came to Red Pearl Mental Hospital with two plans: first, to rest here, as they weren’t eager to enter new dungeons again and again;
Second, they predicted Red Pearl Mental Hospital might become a dungeon itself.
Nothing is absolute—if the hospital did turn into a dungeon, then they’d just have to survive!
They’d investigated the backgrounds of everyone in the hospital ahead of time, looking for worthy allies and learning about everyone inside, to prevent evil spirits from posing as survivors to trick them.
It wouldn’t be the first time—some evil spirits with human-like appearances loved blending in with human teams only to start massacring everyone later.
As soon as the words were spoken, the gunman opened fire on Tuantuan without hesitation.
Ya turned around in horror. All she heard was someone saying there wasn’t such a child in Red Pearl Mental Hospital—then they started shooting without mercy.
Behind her, Tuantuan felt the bullets pass through her body. She looked down—bullets slipped through her like they were passing through air.
Her mouth twisted into a menacing grin. She knew it—Ya was up to no good.
"Seal her in. Let’s see if we can kill her. She should be the boss here." The leader licked his lips, and all three produced strange objects from their hands at the same time.
When Ya saw the three items, her anxiety vanished. She knew it! These three were obviously something special!
They must have special dungeon items!
And three of them at once!
Her tense heart finally loosened—having been stalked by this Little Evil Spirit for so long, she could finally relax. She was safe at last!
Just as Ya was about to hide somewhere in excitement, a bullet whistled through her shoulder.
Blood exploded, hot and bright, splattering across the floor.
Ya clutched her wound, staring, dazed, at the gunman.
The injury came too fast—the pain hadn’t even reached her brain through her nerves, and she didn’t have time to scream.
"Heh, definitely human."
"Just find a place to hide. We’ll need you later." Seeing her wounded, the three didn’t bother to finish her off yet; this was the dungeon’s most special area, likely right at the exit.
If no human came to the end, fine—but now that they had one, they’d keep her as a guinea pig for scouting the exit.
Otherwise, they’d have to risk the possible hidden dangers of the exit themselves.
But what made them more excited was Tuantuan. So small, this evil spirit didn’t look strong at all.
Every dungeon had a gatekeeper evil spirit—but the gatekeeper wasn’t always powerful. Either they were hard to identify, could hide well, or were genuinely strong.
"In all likelihood, that’s the gatekeeper evil spirit." One of them licked his lips, winding the coil on a music box in his hand.
A spectral shadow locked onto Tuantuan, and beneath her feet, the music box instantly expanded, its chilly melody ringing out.
Tuantuan stood atop the music box, unable to move.
Like a dancing doll on the box, she was trapped—unable to escape.
They were ecstatic. By pure luck, they’d caught a living person and found the gatekeeper evil spirit too.
"Hurry up. The music box can only be used twice in a short period. Once the coil unwinds, it’ll stop." The one who used the box urged his companions to act quickly.
"Where’s Mommy?" Tuantuan tilted her head at Ya, killing intent already glinting in her eyes.
Ever since she’d realized these three didn’t know Ya, Tuantuan knew—her mom wasn’t here at all.
And within her range of sense, apart from the three, there wasn’t a single human nearby.
The thought of Jiang Che being disappointed by this made her furious—and with that, she cut off her connection to Jiang Che’s viewpoint.
Now she could see where Jiang Che was and what he was doing, but Jiang Che couldn’t see through her eyes anymore.
He could only sense her location, communicate mentally—but not see her situation right now.
"Mommy?" Ya poked her head out from behind the wall.
Pale with blood loss, she sneered, "What kind of psycho would have a wife? You Jiang Che’s daughter or something—looking for your mom?!"
Seeing Tuantuan trapped above, Ya didn’t hold back anymore—she’d been swallowing her anger too long. Now that Tuantuan was caught, she dared to speak up.
She wasn’t afraid of Tuantuan taking revenge later. Every dungeon item had usage limits—if those three didn’t finish off this evil spirit now, they’d die soon after her, too.
