Chapter 33: Chapter 33: He Acts Like a Local

Ya’s body trembled, but she continued to follow Jiang Che.

Earlier she was still the one leading up front, but now that’s no longer the case.

Jiang Che walked ahead, while Tuantuan kept giving him directions. The two of them chatted in whispers, looking very happy together.

Neither Ya nor the viewers in the livestream could sense the subtle glances they exchanged, nor could they hear the silent communication between them.

What everyone watching the stream could see was only what the screen showed, nothing of what any Survivor was truly thinking.

The livestream’s bullet comments weren’t as dense as before, now and then one would flicker past as everyone took in the current moment, momentarily lost for words.

[Hey guys, does anyone know how long it’s been since Jiang Che got trapped? What sort of trap is he in?]

[I really have no idea. I can’t even tell what kind of trap this is.]

[As expected, humans still understand too little about evil spirits. We have no data or records on this particular evil spirit or its abilities.]

[I’m really done. Is there truly no way to clear Dungeon 9?]

...

The viewers felt a strange sense of unease—what Ya felt was pure terror.

Every so often she would hear that Little Evil Spirit suddenly let out a laugh, and Jiang Che, carrying her, would laugh along with it.

The two of them laughed like there was no one else around. Ya had no idea what they found so funny.

They turned another corner and Jiang Che suddenly stopped.

Ya’s limbs went numb, trailing after him in a daze. She nearly bumped into his back and only then snapped out of it, hurriedly putting some distance between them.

Staring at the modern urban architecture in front of her, Ya couldn’t help but take in a sharp breath.

This was their destination—and sure enough, something was off about Jiang Che.

She hadn’t given directions for a while now, but Jiang Che could still find this place without making a single mistake.

It was as if...

Ya thought it over for a long time, then finally found the best word to describe it.

Local.

Jiang Che was acting like a local in the dungeon. He knew exactly where to go, and what was where.

Ya gazed at the environment, utterly different from the rest of the dungeon. In this replica full of the bizarre, blood, and violence,

a peaceful setting like this was truly rare.

In a place where bloodstains were everywhere, it was strange to find such a clean sanctuary.

Ya didn’t dare walk in on her own. It may have looked clean, but it was dangerous.

Many had entered Dungeon 9 before. They weren’t the first to reach this place, and wouldn’t be the last.

Previously, anyone who entered here would soon have their livestream mysteriously cut off.

Not a single person had ever come out, even after the dungeon closed.

There were online speculations: that the exit was here.

Others said, no, the exit wasn’t here, and the peace and tranquility of this place was just a trap for the Survivors, a false paradise.

This was a flawlessly disguised death trap.

In such a bizarre dungeon, how could something that looked just like a modern city exist?

No blood, no killing; the serenity here was more like a veil, a glaring fake.

For all anyone knew, beneath the tranquility and safety there lay flesh-eating ground, or walls that devoured life itself.

This giant modern estate was actually a man-eating monster.

But whichever was true, no one could say for certain.

No one had ever made it out alive—that much was fact.

"Jiang Che, your wife is in there." Ya stared at Jiang Che, her tone light but cool.

"Where inside?" Before Jiang Che could answer, Tuantuan, perched on his shoulder, was the first to ask.

"The very center." Ya gritted her teeth. Maybe you wouldn’t die at the outskirts, but the center was suicide!

Tuantuan frowned. So the Survivors really did know where the exit was, but this place...

Jiang Che sensed Tuantuan’s worry and quietly asked, "Tuantuan, what’s wrong? You look scared."

Tuantuan shook her head. "Daddy, wait for me here, okay? I’ll go in with Aunt Ya to find Mommy."

This was... their domain.

She could only guarantee that an evil spirit entering wouldn’t be at risk—for now, she didn’t want Jiang Che to go somewhere dangerous.

Once they found Jiang Che’s wife, then she could negotiate with that person, try to bargain for a few people’s release.

Jiang Che hesitated, but Tuantuan only shook her head again. "Tuantuan just wants to see Mommy first, and give Daddy a punishment for losing me."

As she spoke, Tuantuan made a gesture with her right hand. Instantly, a dark bluish Spirit Body manifested at Jiang Che’s side, tugging his sleeve.

"Daddy, just wait here for me, okay? If you see any strangers, Tuantuan will come find you right away."

She handed Jiang Che her skill; now Jiang Che could sense her location, and she could sense his.

In that instant, Ya saw the bluish black Spirit Body at Jiang Che’s feet, and a cold sweat broke out down her back.

"Let’s go, let’s look for her," Tuantuan said with a glance at Ya, leaped out of Jiang Che’s arms, and led the way.

"He’s not going in?" Ya watched Jiang Che obediently standing at the edge.

"Once we find her, he’ll come in." Tuantuan frowned—she’d never let Jiang Che put himself at risk inside.

Besides, she sensed Ya’s sudden shift of mood—a complexity, a storm of thoughts all rushing up at once.

"But if he doesn’t go, I can’t find her!" Ya gritted her teeth. "Unless he gives me some token—otherwise, his wife won’t trust me."

"He needs to give me the bracelet on his wrist, then she’ll believe me." Ya quickly pointed at the bracelet on Jiang Che’s wrist.

In that instant, Tuantuan suddenly smiled.

Because what she detected most from Ya just now was greed.

She immediately stepped forward, grabbed Ya’s hand, and said, "If you don’t have a token, then I’ll be your token. Now get in and look for her, don’t make me repeat myself."

Ya was forced along by Tuantuan, dragged a step over the edge of the estate.

The moment they entered the grounds, Ya immediately felt the burning sunlight vanish, her scorched skin slowly soothed.

A cool breeze, carrying a strange floral scent, drifted from some distant place,

The temperature here was pleasant, perfect for living.

Ya had only just thought that, when a jolt of fear ran down her spine.

She smelled the flowers again; her organs felt clear and invigorated, but her subconscious was already rejecting it, gagging.

She knew she must be hallucinating.

This had to be Illusion Technique!

Who knew? Maybe the castle she saw was built from living flesh, and the flower scent was actually the stench of rotting corpses.

Her nerves were nauseated, but her body kept inhaling deeply.

Walking the castle’s path, shaded by thriving wisteria blooms overhead.

Ya felt a bit dazed, swept up by the scene, convinced for a moment she’d already escaped—that this was the outside world.

The estate was vast. Even after walking for ages, the two of them hadn’t reached the castle itself.

Then Ya turned her head and saw some familiar faces.

The others from the asylum had already made it here as well.

"I finally found you!" Ya called out, ignoring Tuantuan at her side, excitement overriding caution. Even if it meant dying now, at least she’d have a few more people to draw the danger away from herself.

Watching Ya reunite with other humans, Tuantuan frowned—something about this place didn’t feel like there was a mother waiting inside.
