Chapter 114: Chapter 114: He Must Have His Reasons!

One hundred bodies were carried and laid out before Leng Feng, the shrouded corpses arranged row after row in the room.

The stark white linens, illuminated by the fluorescent light, reflected a glare that was almost blinding.

Leng Feng took a deep breath, staring at those ranks of bodies laid out before him.

Each corpse bag had a name sticker; he closed his eyes, feeling the chill that filled the air.

"Captain Leng... are we really not going to resist?" A man stood by Leng Feng’s right, his eyes bloodshot, glaring fixedly at the corpses on the ground.

He reached back to touch the back of his own neck, his fingers digging deep into the skin,

as if trying to tear away a piece of it.

On the back of his neck, the same mark as Leng Feng’s was etched.

A triangular pattern, like a venomous snake, embedded deep to the bone.

Leng Feng unconsciously touched the back of his own neck, pausing for a moment.

"Hold on just a little longer. We’ve lasted this long already." He said as he turned away. "Freeze all these hundred brothers in the morgue."

"When the day comes that we bring down the evil spirits, they will be buried as heroes! I want the whole world to know their names!" Leng Feng’s voice was tightly restrained, as if he was suppressing his emotions too.

Leng Feng closed his eyes. All these people—he had smuggled them into the dungeon bit by bit over the years.

The seeds planted by Dark Star were all humans he had transported there.

"Just wait a little longer. The two worlds have already started to fuse. When they can never be separated again, we humans will be able to awaken our own skills. That’s when our foundation truly begins." Leng Feng lowered the hand at his nape.

The high collar of his shirt covered the mark. All these years, neither he nor his subordinates had ever shown their necks before outsiders.

He really wished one day he could undo his collar, just let himself breathe.

Fusion with the Evil Spirit Realm was something he and Dark Star achieved together. Of course, Dark Star had his schemes, but so did he.

As the two worlds fused, Dark Star did his part in the Evil Spirit Realm, while Leng Feng did his in the Human Realm.

Humans only have three days inside the dungeon.

After three days, everyone would be wiped out. At first, he didn’t care, thought it was just the rules.

But after he became stronger, entered the dungeon again, he could sense the dungeon was infused with unimaginable energy.

If humans could be nourished by that energy for a long time, maybe they’d grow as well.

Maybe they’d awaken on their own, develop their own skills, wouldn’t need to go on hunting evil spirits, or serve as their dogs anymore.

Of course, this was just a guess—one he made after becoming stronger himself.

But whether it was a guess or the truth, he knew he had to try.

If the evil spirits were bound to destroy humanity, then instead of waiting passively, it was better to make the first move, seize growth, fight back!

As for what others thought, whether they preferred to await destruction safely or to risk everything for a chance—he didn’t consider any of that.

He was just doing what he believed was right.

So he tricked Dark Star into breaking the barrier between the Human Realm and the Evil Spirit Realm.

Told him if the Human Realm was gradually transformed by the aura of the Evil Spirit Realm, then eventually the Human Realm would become a subordinate territory of the Evil Spirit Realm.

Dark Star believed him. If he wanted to surpass the other lords, he needed to boost his own strength.

Leng Feng wasn’t sure if Dark Star knew whether humanity could evolve by basking in this energy long-term.

Maybe he knew. Maybe he didn’t.

Maybe he was simply confident he could keep humanity under his control.

Leng Feng’s gaze darkened. In this chess game, he didn’t know if he was the piece or the player behind it all.

...

Jiang Che brought Zhou Ang and his mother to Flying Tiger Organization’s villa.

Now that Zhou Ang was following him, he needed to leave Zhou Ang’s mother with Flying Tiger. She had no urge to grow stronger.

Even though the start of the dungeon wasn’t public knowledge, escorting a normal person away from the dungeon had to be one of Flying Tiger Organization’s perks.

After all, all survivors had families, and high-ranking humans always worried about their family’s safety.

"Thank you." Zhou Ang followed behind Jiang Che. He’d been racking his brain about how to shield his mother from the dungeon, whether he should stay with her at all times, and what to do if he chose to stay with Jiang Che.

But Jiang Che told him the truth: the dungeon can be avoided.

Once you reached Phase Two, you could sense the location of dungeons and, by avoiding the dungeon’s magnetic field, you wouldn’t get dragged in.

Flying Tiger Organization would have a separate family compound from then on. If a magnetic field formed, the families would be relocated temporarily and return once the field faded.

"Then why? Why isn’t this information made public? Ordinary people could survive safely if they just knew." Zhou Ang struggled to understand.

"Why do you think? If you don’t force people, hardly anyone will enter the dungeon to grow, to throw away their lives," Xiong Jie explained impatiently.

Ever since Zhou Ang started sticking with Jiang Che, and that Little Demon called Tuantuan showed no intention of stopping it, he felt a sense of crisis well up inside.

Why wasn’t this Little Demon stopping a normal person from being at Jiang Che’s side?

Weren’t they afraid that Jiang Che’s identity as an evil spirit son-in-law would be exposed?

"All experience has to be won by exploration—paid for with lives," Xiong Jie looked at Zhou Ang and explained.

As Xiong Jie spoke, Tuantuan couldn’t help but knit her brows.

She picked up on the malice in Xiong Jie’s tone. There was something more than explanation at work here.

Xiong Jie wasn’t wrong, but Tuantuan couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off.

Why was there malice in his words?

"I’ll definitely do my best to grow stronger, and in the future I’ll kill every single evil spirit." Zhou Ang’s eyes flashed with anger, as if unable to accept humanity’s predicament and filled with resentment.

He nodded forcefully. "Definitely!"

Tuantuan instantly sensed a flash of excitement in Xiong Jie’s emotions.

He was clearly waiting for Zhou Ang to say that.

Sure enough, when he heard it, Jiang Che frowned. "I don’t want to kill all evil spirits. If they don’t bother me, I won’t start a fight."

Tuantuan felt Jiang Che’s dissatisfaction and immediately understood why Xiong Jie was steering Zhou Ang’s emotions—inciting hatred and resentment toward evil spirits in him.

"If that’s how you think, you can leave. From now on, I’ll let you know whenever there’s a dungeon’s magnetic field, so you and your mother won’t be in danger." Jiang Che walked toward the villa without looking back.

Zhou Ang was stunned for a couple of seconds, then hurried after Jiang Che.

He didn’t understand why Jiang Che reacted like this, but he still replied, "Then I’ll just be with you. If you don’t kill, I won’t kill either."

Tuantuan lay on Jiang Che’s shoulder, staring into Zhou Ang’s eyes. "But why you?"

Compared to Jiang Che, Zhou Ang seemed to have no reason at all.

"My dad must have had his reasons. Whatever he does, I’ll support him."

From the moment I was saved, from the second Jiang Che said he’d take me with him, the one I chose to follow was Jiang Che alone.
