Chapter 12: Siren Stronghold [ 8 ]

"Is that all?"

She put a finger on her chin.

"Usually, people who have something to offer don’t always put all they have on the table. They try to seek a good deal, then slowly reveal their cards. In this scenario, us Sirens are in trouble, and so we’re the ones who should be begging you for help."

She paused, then added:

"Now, we can, and will lowball you for your work. So sure. We can go through with whatever you want. All charges against you will be dropped. In turn, you will forever slave away for us until all the humans tormenting us are eradicated."

Nacho’s brows twitched slightly. He wasn’t some smartass, but he thought he’d have enough intellect to deal with these people. He was wrong.

But right as he was about to try spinning this in his favor, she let out a chuckle.

"Is what I would have said if this were in the court of Grand Elders. They are a corrupt bunch of geezers, so this is my way of telling them off."

Nacho tilted his head, confused. "Does that mean this is off-record?"

"It does. Take this as valuable experience, since if you act this way next time, you’ll be in very big trouble," she replied.

He nodded, not saying anything else and letting her continue.

"The next meeting is in a week, so until then, I want you to stay within the city. I won’t keep you in custody, since I’m sure you have a way of escaping. On that note, the old man you killed, he used to visit the Old Willow Inn very frequently because he found his dead friend’s daughter beautiful. I heard he was planning to propose." fгeewebnovёl.com

Before he could reply, she said:

"I take it you’re staying in the Old Willow Inn?"

Nacho let out another sigh. "You know, you’re unbelievable. With your smarts, you could probably go up there and deal with all the humans."

She raised a brow and leaned against the wall. "You really don’t know anything, do you?"

Sera gouged his blank reaction, then explained.

"The world we live in is split into five planes of existence. From the top to the bottom is, Heaven, The Sky, Mortal World, Ocean, Hell."

"We’re in the Ocean. In this plane of existence, there are islands, sure. But they’re not very large, and most are just there to act as camps. The majority of this plane is occupied by sea creatures, as you can obviously tell."

Pirates too, from what Lizbeth told me. Nacho got comfy in his chair. "Then, since this place has no actual continents, and only a big ocean, does that mean the Mortal World above us has a lot of continents, but no oceans?"

"Yes. They might have a river or a lake, but no oceans. The Sky is similar. It has a few floating islands, and a river or two. But that’s not the main theme over there."

Mm. That’s interesting. I knew this world was different, but for it to be segregated into so many different planes of existence, it seems like a lot of work.

Either way, he liked it.

"Then what about Heaven and Hell?"

"No idea. Humans know more about them than us. Our ancient books are pretty much gone now," she said.

Just then, a knock resounded on the door, followed by a voice:

"Grand General! A pirate ship’s been spotted carrying Sirens straight West from Lumen. The Elders have ordered you to advance with a squad and eliminate the pirates."

She frowned and turned to the door.

"Are the pirates strong?"

"No, Grand General."

"So they’re sending a Grand General for a menial task. I see. Tell them I’ll leave right away," she replied, hiding her disdain.

Then, she turned back to Nacho.

"Once I’m back, I’ll pay you a visit to the Old Willow Inn. Until then, do whatever you want, but don’t leave the city. Travel in that old man’s form too, since your current form is wanted."

With that, she gave him one swift nod and vanished in a blur. Not only that, the door was unlocked and partially opened.

She’s letting me go so easily... Well, communicating with her and the others is a good ticket to knowledge and getting to the Mortal World.

Not to mention, this talk with her really opened his eyes. He was a bit naive before, but that would all change now.

I need to be more careful, and I also need to make sure I’m not revealing too much when I speak. She was right. If we had this same conversation in front of those Elders, I’d have been enslaved, Nacho thought.

Finally, he got up, changed forms, and then left the infirmary, his HP fully restored by now. He walked to the center of the city once again, ignoring the many officers around.

And when he stood in the very center, he opened his inventory, pulling out a couple dozen pamphlets he wrote the other day.

[The Old Willow Inn is having a special discount!]

[If you buy food, you get a free massage!]

I should’ve probably asked about the currency too. Nacho grumbled slightly. I still don’t get it, but I see people are buying stuff with copper, silver, and some even with gold coins. That’s probably it.

But oh well, the price didn’t matter. Her food was delicious, so people would keep buying more and more.

As for me, I’d be able to extort them as much as I wanted.

With that in mind, Nacho began handing out the pamphlets to every woman he saw, even the officers... Especially the officers, since they’d have the best Talents to steal.

And a few hours later, he swung by a mask shop, stole something that cover his features, and then made his way back to the inn.

It wasn’t even open, but there were at least five women waiting by the entrance. One of them was an officer.

Heh...

Nacho smiled.

I’m about to get so many new Talents.
