Chapter 26: Lynx Vs Mal’Zaroth I
Meanwhile, back at the academy.
Alone in one of the academy training grounds, a girl is seen sweating and battered. Clothes destroyed, injuries all over her body.
But her eyes blaze with fighting intent, her mouth twisted into a grin. One look and you’re like, "Who’s this maniac?"
Well... This maniac is our beloved Kira Lewis, who’s currently training directly under Teacher Rose Firehart. Quite a big achievement... no. Not quite. It’s a huge achievement.
They grew somewhat closer after Kira recovered. When Kira was fully fit, she made a visit to Teacher Rose and begged her to train her, especially since the Tournament was coming up in a month.
At first Rose didn’t agree. She only taught students, not trained them personally. But she eventually agreed to train the persistent Kira. She had taken a liking to her, especially her strong will and determination to grow stronger.
"Your breathing is uneven. Calm your breathing before you attack. If your mind is unsteady, you will always fail," Rose said, while preparing her stance. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
"Come."
Kira moved fast. She threw a punch, which Rose dodged easily. The punch turned out to be a feint. Her other hand moved already, burning with fire.
Rose saw this and smiled.
She just lifted her right arm and turned her wrist.
Kira’s fire fist stopped 2 inches from Rose’s cheek. No impact. Rose had caught her fist between thumb and middle finger like she was picking fruit.
"Feint was clean," Rose said, voice calm. "But your shoulder told on you. You always shift weight before the real one."
Kira’s eyes narrowed. She twisted her body and drove her other elbow straight for Rose’s ribs, flames bursting along her arm.
Rose stepped forward instead of away. Her forearm met Kira’s elbow with a soft tap. The fire choked out instantly.
"Your Mind is unsteady, which makes your fire messy," Rose said. She reached out and tapped Kira’s forehead with one finger. "I can tell you’re exhausted, but during fights exhaustion will give your opponent a really good advantage over you. So even when you’re exhausted, Take a deep Breathe and let your mind be clear".
Kira gritted her teeth and grinned wider. She’s battered and burnt. But her fighting intent burned hotter.
"Again."
She came in low this time. Jab to the face, hook to the ribs, then a sweeping kick wreathed in flame. Three fast moves.
Rose parried all three with one hand. Her palm up to lift the jab. Her fingers closing around the hook. The heels of her palm tapping Kira’s shin mid kick, redirecting the fire straight into the stone floor.
Crack!!!
Black scorch mark.
"Good. Your breathing steadied," Rose nodded. "Come again"
Kira snarled and dropped, sweeping for Rose’s legs with a desperate burst of fire.
Rose hopped over it. Landed behind her. Reached out and gave Kira’s burnt ponytail one gentle tug.
Rose whispered to her ear. "A Blessed with a B-Rank Affinity would’ve taken your head already. Good thing you have me."
Kira spun, furious for the way she was weak, forming a blade of fire in her palm. She slashed it was wild but fast, and messy.
Rose crouched a little, then she caught Kira wrist. Her hand was hot. Not the painful or burning kind of hot. Just the steady heat of a teacher holding a student’s hand.
Rose punched. More like flicked Kira chest with two fingers. Intense fire coursed through them. It met Kira.
"Arhhhhh" Kira screamed with pain as she flew on the air and landed.
Bammm!!!
Kira slammed down hard on the ground. Blood trailing down her body which was filled with dust.
After laying still for some minutes, she regained herself a little and sat up. She had been practicing for the past week, and it was always this intense. But she could feel she was getting stronger.
"We’ll stop here. You’re improving. Here, take this and keep it," Rose tossed an already familiar artifact to Kira. "You know what to do. Just teleport yourself to the Infirmary directly."
Rose started walking out of the training hall, then paused and turned to Kira, who was still sitting, trying to catch her breath. "Where’s that boy? Lynx?"
"I don’t know, Teacher Rose. I haven’t seen him for the past two weeks. I even called his number and chatted him. But none is going through."
"Okay, then. But aren’t you worried that something might have happened to him?" Rose asked with a neutral expression, keeping her voice steady.
"No Teacher. His roommate who saw him last told me he went to a brothel. I think he is balls deep in a woman right now."
Rose’s expression cracked slightly at the blunt words. Just for a second.
"I’m going to punish that kid in the cruelest way possible," she muttered before leaving.
After she left, Kira fell down flat again. Her thoughts drifted to the words Lynx told her at the Infirmary. "I don’t really think you’re still at the brothel Lynx. Where are you" she said to no one.

Back at the Forbidden Zone
Lynx was fighting and running for his life.
That thing was not a normal monster. It was catastrophic. One hit and half his HP was gone. If not for his Primordial Healing, he would have been dead already.
Mal’Zaroth was getting frustrated now. This human wouldn’t die. He hadn’t been taking this human seriously, but now he was going to.
Mal’Zaroth’s claws slashed down, Lynx twisted, rolled, and ran.
He sprinted left, then right, boots skidding on the scorched ground. Another claw came down behind him like an asteroid blazing with fire.
Boom!!
It hit him. The Shockwave sending him flying.
Lynx slammed to a wall, near the cage. His bloodied Body healed in seconds, he felt pain which it quickly goes away as soon as it came. But he could feel that he’s really going to die.
Lynx fell down to the floor. Spitting out tons of blood.
Mal’Zaroth was amazed, ’this human is pretty strong’, he thought. "Time to end you human"
Mal’Zaroth Jumped.
He looked around and couldn’t find the monster. He saw the cage. Sealed, glowing. And the feminine voice kept saying the same thing.
"Run."
Lynx bolted again, this time he changed direction, running straight for the cage.
Boomm!!!
Mal’Zaroth landed right in front of him, cracking the ground beneath them. The monster’s tail whipped out like a black whip. Lynx dodged by dropping flat, the tail passing inches over his head and shattering a rock wall behind him.
His heart jumped. He released heavy lightning from his sword, straight into the monster’s eyes.
Then he used his other hand to create blazing fire with lightning streaks. He bombarded the attack at the monster.
Releasing and combining different types of attacks.
Smoke filled the air.
He ran again toward the cage. Or he tried to.
The monster’s big hand gripped him tightly. He tried to lash out with all his strength but couldn’t. Fear filled his body.
"You’re quite strong, human. What is your name?"
"My name is Lynx" his voice came out hoarse but clear enough.
"Good. Our battle ends here" Mal’Zaroth freezes Lynx head with Ice and slammed him down hard on the ground.
Lynx’s frozen head shattered on impact.
