Chapter 1158: Chapter 1158: Future President’s Wife
Janelle Tollman smiled wryly, "I was in a coma for so long in the hospital. If he really liked me, he would have found his way to the hospital. But my mom said no one ever came to see me, so I don’t want to know who that person is. Besides, it’s not important to me now."
Hearing Janelle express all of this so frankly, Arthur Sutton felt relieved too, at least he didn’t have to worry that regaining her memory would affect their current situation too much.
Suddenly, Janelle tilted her head and jokingly asked him, "Be honest, didn’t you know me before?"
Arthur answered very seriously, "I also wish I could have known you earlier, because then, at least over the years, you wouldn’t have had to endure so much hardship alone."
Originally just teasing, Janelle was instead moved and speechless by Arthur’s answer.
Had it been someone else saying such beautiful words, it might have seemed like sweet talk. But from Arthur’s mouth, it was different—deep and sincere.
"From now on... let me take care of you."
He tightened his hold on her hand slightly, and Janelle shyly averted her gaze, pressed her lips together, and lightly said, "Okay."
Hand in hand, the two of them walked back to the hotel.
As they reached the hotel lobby, they happened to run into Arthur’s colleagues.
Everyone looked at Arthur and Janelle’s joined hands with eyes as if they were looking at an oddity, all with expressions of disbelief.
Because everyone had been working alongside Arthur for quite some time, they all knew he was single.
Even though Arthur had been acting suspiciously lately and everyone had their suspicions, seeing it firsthand still left everyone shocked.
"...Good evening, President Sutton."
"Is this lady perhaps our future First Lady?"
Janelle felt a bit awkward when encountering Arthur’s subordinates.
Arthur didn’t speak immediately, and she didn’t know how to introduce herself, so she ended up squeezing out a few words with a dry laugh, "...Hello."
Instinctively, she wanted to withdraw her hand from Arthur’s, but noticing her action, Arthur held her hand even tighter.
He then explained to the group, "No need for ’future,’ she is now."
After Arthur’s definitive response, those who were worried about saying the wrong thing smiled knowingly and couldn’t help teasing, "I was wondering why President Sutton didn’t join us for dinner; turns out he had a date."
Janelle, teased by everyone, blushed while Arthur remained unfazed, even saying, "I won’t personally take you anywhere tomorrow, there’s something else."
A young guy quickly chimed in, "We get it! President Sutton, you should take a good rest tomorrow, after all, you’re still ’working overtime’ tonight!"
Everyone present understood the implication behind "working overtime," and Janelle buried her head even deeper, not daring to look up.
Arthur showed no emotion on the surface, and in a businesslike manner, he said, "Send someone alone to inspect the new site. I heard there’s no transportation there yet, so there might be a little mountain path to walk. Who’s going?"
Nobody wanted to do this tedious task, and they all chose to remain silent.
Yet, it seemed like Arthur didn’t intend to let them decide for themselves. He quickly looked at the young guy who had spoken earlier and continued his thought, "It’ll be you."
The others chuckled quietly.
Although not explicitly stated, everyone understood that Arthur was getting back at the young guy for talking too much earlier, using his position for personal vengeance.
