Chapter 1144: Chapter 1144: I’m Sorry
Since there were children at the table, Arthur Sutton didn’t discuss anything too personal with Janelle Tollman.
For him, it’s a blessing for a family of four to have the chance to sit together like this for a meal.
Not only did he find Janelle, but he also gained a pair of adorable children.
After reuniting with Janelle, he often feels he’s just one step away from happiness.
"Thank you for having dinner with the kids today and for spending so much time here."
Arthur Sutton shook his head, looked up at the apartment building in front of him, and said softly, "Don’t say that, I have time every day."
Before Janelle could say anything, little Noah’s hand grabbed Arthur Sutton’s pant leg, looking up to ask him, "Uncle Sutton, can you come upstairs and watch cartoons with me?"
Arthur Sutton chuckled, didn’t answer, but turned to look at Janelle, as if seeking her opinion.
At the same time, Janelle also looked at him, seemingly considering something. She reached out and took little Noah by her side, saying, "You have school tomorrow, and Uncle has to work, we shouldn’t cause trouble."
"Alright then, goodbye Uncle Sutton."
Arthur Sutton adhered to Janelle’s suggestion, patting the two children’s heads as he said, "Alright, you two should listen to your mom."
Little Noah quickly agreed, "We will be good."
Though little Chase didn’t answer, he still waved his hand towards Arthur Sutton.
Arthur Sutton felt that little Chase’s gaze was always different from Noah’s, like a little fox with many things planned in mind.
He even sensed that little Chase already knew who he was.
"Then we’re heading back."
"Okay."
Arthur Sutton stood by the car, watching the mother and her two children.
As they were about to enter the apartment building, Janelle turned back to look at him and said, "Take care on your way."
Arthur Sutton smiled and nodded, watching the mother and her two children enter the elevator before he got back into the car and drove away.
With the children’s grandmother not home these days, Janelle is indeed busier than she used to be once she gets home.
She supervised the kids completing their homework, helped them take a bath, watched cartoons with them for a while, and told Noah a bedtime story.
After finishing all this, it was already close to eleven o’clock.
Janelle returned to the bedroom, picked up the phone charging at the bedside, and saw several unread messages.
Wayne Archer: [Everything’s finished here, heading out for a late-night snack, want to join?]
She noticed the timestamp, sent around nine, thinking Wayne Archer had likely already returned home.
She replied: [Sorry Brother Archer, just saw your message, hope the event went smoothly?]
Wayne Archer’s call immediately came through, and Janelle felt somewhat reluctant to answer it, but after hesitating, she picked up.
There was silence on both ends of the phone, so Janelle tentatively asked, "What’s going on, Brother Archer?"
Wayne Archer still said nothing, but she could hear heavy sighs from his end.
Noticing his anomaly, Janelle didn’t know what to say for a moment.
The silence didn’t linger long before Wayne Archer’s slightly slurred voice came through, "...Janelle, I’m sorry."
Janelle was baffled, and with a forced laugh, she replied, "What are you talking about, are you drunk?"
Wayne Archer seemed to not hear her, and like he was talking to himself, he said again, "I’m sorry..."
"What exactly is wrong? Brother Archer?"
There was no further response from his end, only faint noises that sounded like they were coming from inside a car.
After receiving no response from Wayne Archer for a long while, Janelle hung up and called his assistant instead.
