Chapter 863: Chapter 863: The Greatest Winner
"Mrs. Kane, I brought a gift for Miss Monroe." Serena Sullivan finished speaking and turned to leave.
Left alone with Claire Sullivan, Mrs. Kane’s voice became softer and gentler.
"Claire." She looked at Claire Sullivan very seriously, and Claire grew puzzled, not knowing what kind of secrets two classmates who hadn’t seen each other in years could possibly have to share.
"How are things between you and Felix Lockwood?"
"Felix Lockwood?" Claire Sullivan froze for a moment. Why bring him up out of nowhere?
"What about him and me?" Claire countered. She had already made things very clear to Felix Lockwood: she hadn’t chosen him before, and she certainly wouldn’t now.
"Felix has always loved you very deeply." Mrs. Kane said solemnly. "You’re divorced now—wouldn’t it be good to give him a chance?"
"You’re not seriously thinking of getting back together with Simon Sterling!" Mrs. Kane said, turning her head to look at Simon, who was chatting with some people not far away.
Simon Sterling was indeed perfect, but in Mrs. Kane’s eyes, he still fell short of Felix Lockwood.
Felix Lockwood’s love for Claire Sullivan was obsessive; he had never let her go all these years.
"Aren’t you and Mr. Kane about the same?" Claire Sullivan really disliked what Mrs. Kane had just said.
Bringing up Felix for no reason, then telling her she couldn’t reconcile with Simon.
Wendy Monroe was meddling way too much in her business.
"Mr. Kane has so many women outside—aren’t you planning to divorce him?"
"I remember you used to have a crush on Felix Lockwood." After Claire Sullivan said this, Mrs. Kane’s expression turned unpleasant.
She could bring up Claire Sullivan’s past, but Claire was not allowed to bring up hers.
"I’m speaking from the standpoint of a good friend, it’s for your own good."
Mrs. Kane smiled, then continued.
Claire Sullivan didn’t want to keep talking. She felt that after so many years without seeing each other, whatever bond they’d had had long faded—what kind of "good friends" were they supposed to be?
"If there’s nothing else, I’ll go find Serena first."
"Claire." Obviously Mrs. Kane hadn’t finished. She glanced toward Wyatt Sterling. "Young Master Sterling doesn’t have a girlfriend yet, does he? He..."
Before Mrs. Kane could finish hinting, Claire Sullivan answered blandly, "No, he doesn’t."
"But his girlfriend is not for me to decide. He’s the Young Master of The Sterling Family; he’s not going to bring home some random, messy woman."
Mrs. Kane hadn’t spelled it out, but Claire Sullivan wasn’t stupid; she understood perfectly.
She’d also heard Wyatt Sterling complaining these past few days that Mrs. Kane had been parading Miss Monroe in front of him all the time.
And now Mrs. Kane was bringing up Wyatt’s love life again—she clearly wanted her son to marry Nina Monroe.
Nina Monroe... Claire Sullivan didn’t feel much of anything.
Good or bad, it wasn’t her place to interfere.
But she no longer felt that old sense of closeness toward Mrs. Kane.
What she felt more, toward Mrs. Kane’s attempts to get close, was resistance.
Watching Claire Sullivan walk away, Mrs. Kane curled her lips into a vicious smile.
She looks down on Nina, and she’s still not satisfied with Wyatt!
Unless...
Something occurred to Mrs. Kane, and she lifted her head to look toward the rooms upstairs.
Now, she was Mrs. Kane, the one in control of the Ford Family, with a daughter by her side and the man she loved most—she was the biggest winner.
While Mrs. Kane and Claire Sullivan were talking over here, Serena Sullivan had walked over to Nina Monroe.
As the protagonist of today’s event, Nina Monroe wasn’t dressed flamboyantly. She was formal, very aware of her own status, and carried herself with poise as she chatted politely with people.
Serena Sullivan went up and presented the gift she’d brought to Nina Monroe.
"Miss Monroe, this brooch is from the same collection as the jewelry you’re wearing."
"I hope you’ll like it."
Serena Sullivan opened the box. The brooch inside was indeed very beautiful and matched well with the necklace and jewelry Nina Monroe was wearing.
"Thank you." Nina Monroe replied politely.
Serena Sullivan took out the brooch and held it out to Nina.
Nina Monroe reached out to take it, but the moment she touched the brooch, she let out an "ah" and quickly pulled her hand back.
Seeing the bead of blood welling up on Nina Monroe’s finger, Serena Sullivan hurriedly grabbed a tissue and pressed it apologetically to Nina’s wound.
