Chapter 55: Chapter 55 Zhou Mazi’s Cunning Plan

Zhou Mazi saw Wang Hao and the villagers working passionately, and he felt quite bitter inside.

He just couldn’t understand why the villagers would not rent their land to him to build fishponds, but instead let Wang Hao build greenhouses to grow vegetables.

"Hmph, if you won’t let me dig a fishpond, I’ll make sure your greenhouses can’t be built either."

With a cold snort, Zhou Mazi turned and walked towards Village Chief Zhao Youquan’s house.

Zhao Youquan had been bitten by a centipede and hadn’t gone out, getting an IV at home.

Zhou Mazi barged directly into Zhao Youquan’s home and sat down beside him.

"Why are you here again?"

Zhao Youquan asked with an annoyed face, puzzled.

"I’m already in this state, what more do you want?"

"Village Chief, we had agreed beforehand, you were to secure the land for me, and I would dig a pond to raise fish. Now what? Not a single piece of land in sight, what do you say we should do?"

Zhou Mazi said coldly.

Seeing that Wang Hao’s side had already started building, he needed to act quickly, or the opportunity would slip away.

"But I’m just a humble village chief, none of the villagers are willing, and besides, I’m in this state now, what can I do?"

Zhao Youquan lifted his injured arm and spoke with an air of grievance.

Now he was in quite the dilemma, on one side the villagers disagreed, and on the other, Zhou Mazi was pressing him hard, and Zhou Mazi’s uncle was the deputy director of the Environmental Protection Bureau, someone he couldn’t afford to offend.

"So, do you still not want to take your revenge?"

Zhou Mazi leaned closer to Zhao Youquan and asked with ill-intent.

Zhao Youquan dreamed of getting revenge, but every time he encountered Wang Hao, he ended up being the one who was unlucky, to the point where Zhao Youquan was now scared to even see Wang Hao.

"I’m telling you, Wang Hao is now eyeing your position as village chief."

Zhou Mazi whispered.

"What?"

Zhao Youquan’s face showed shock.

Over the years, Zhao Youquan had taken advantage of his position in the village; the thought of someone eyeing his position immediately put him on alert. freeωebnovēl.c૦m

"I saw Wang Hao today leading Wang Xiaoer and the others building the greenhouses."

Zhou Mazi continued.

"Isn’t that a good thing? If they succeed, it could boost the village economy, and the more they earn, the more we can skim off the top."

Zhao Youquan happily replied.

He still didn’t catch Zhou Mazi’s implication.

"Are you stupid?"

The more Zhou Mazi spoke, the more agitated he became. "Wang Hao is capturing so many people’s hearts even before he succeeds, once he actually boosts the village’s economy, who would vote for you as village chief?"

After hearing what Zhou Mazi had to say, Zhao Youquan realized the gravity of the situation.

If Wang Hao were to get the greenhouse planting off the ground, he would undoubtedly have the highest prestige in the villagers’ hearts, and his own chances of being re-elected as village chief would be slim.

He absolutely couldn’t let Wang Hao’s greenhouses succeed!

"Zhou Mazi, do you have any good ideas?"

Zhao Youquan asked eagerly.

"There are plenty of ways."

Zhou Mazi whispered in Zhao Youquan’s ear.

"My uncle told me, right now..."

The air was thick with the scent of conspiracy!

...

Xia Xue explained the principles of the equipment in detail to the villagers, speaking simply and clearly, and everyone picked it up quickly.

In one afternoon, everyone had essentially mastered the building techniques and precautions.

Seeing the sun about to set, everybody packed up their tools and headed to Wang Hao’s home for drinks.

Wang Hao took the opportunity to pay everyone their first day’s wages, somewhat setting their minds at ease.

He discovered that the five hundred thousand from selling the centipede had almost run out; the money came quickly, and it was also spent quickly.

Seeing that the money he had left was not nearly enough for the expenses after setting up the greenhouse.

"Is Chen Hongying still coming to buy Lingzhi?"

Wang Hao wondered to himself.

All his money was now invested, and he still had quite some time before the harvest, which was when he would need to spend the most.

Thinking that Chen Hongying would hurry over to buy Lingzhi and help him resolve his tight finances,

and with the matter weighing on his mind, he wondered how to solve it. He thought about checking on Qi Shihan to see how she was doing.

As he walked along, he saw several people sneaking around in the field under cover of darkness.

Wang Hao found it strange—what could those people be doing in the field at this hour?

Watching their figures, Wang Hao was startled; they were running towards his own land.

So he quickly followed to see what was going on.

He saw six people stealthily carrying something to the side of a large shed.

One person was limping, as if they were injured.

They stopped behind the shed, and Wang Hao followed. He crouched nearby, listening intently.

"Quick, quick, dig!"

It was Zhou Mazi’s voice.

At Zhou Mazi’s command, the others started digging with their hoes.

Since the villagers had recently turned over the soil, it didn’t take long for them to dig a large hole.

"Put it in, gently!"

After digging the hole, Zhou Mazi and the others carefully buried a box in it.

Because it was so dark, Wang Hao couldn’t see clearly what they were burying, but he sensed it was something big.

Once the box was in place, the people covered it with soil.

To avoid discovery, Zhou Mazi and his accomplices even took away the excess dirt.

"Brother, you’ve really gone all out this time. Such a big item must have been expensive, right?"

One of Zhou Mazi’s companions asked softly.

"It cost me thirty thousand. I had originally bought it for the fish pond, hoping to earn some government subsidies, but that kid Wang Hao beat me to it. So, let’s give him a taste of this thing’s power," Zhou Mazi said viciously.

"This is high voltage. Could it kill someone?" the person asked, sounding worried.

"If he dies, he dies. If anyone dies, it’s Wang Hao’s fault, not ours. If you don’t talk and I don’t talk, who would know we put it there?" Zhou Mazi said with a smirk, confidently waiting to deal with Wang Hao. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

"Don’t worry, brother. We can keep our mouths shut," the companions nodded and echoed.

Zhou Mazi looked around one more time, didn’t notice anything unusual, and led his group away.

By this time, Wang Hao’s head was clear, and he didn’t smell of alcohol at all; it must have been absorbed by the Nine Dragons.

Wang Hao cautiously approached to investigate. He scraped off the top layer of soil and found a storage battery buried with a wire attached that ran directly to the wire mesh of the shed.

It appeared that Zhou Mazi was planning to electrify the shed quietly and cause an electric shock.

"Zhou Mazi, you’ve brought this on yourself," said Wang Hao, a smile creeping across his lips.

After turning off the storage battery, he ran towards Su Zhenping’s house.

"Why have you come?"

Su Zhenping was still mixing medicine for Qi Shihan.

"I came to see how Shi Han is doing," Wang Hao asked with concern.

"She was feeling better after taking her medicine, but then some police came today to collect evidence, and after they asked a couple of questions, she collapsed again," Su Zhenping replied.

"The police are just doing their job. Since she’s involved in the case and a witness, it’s inevitable they would question her," Wang Hao said, feeling a pang of pity and wanting to see Qi Shihan for himself.

"She’s just fallen asleep; don’t disturb her," Su Zhenping stopped Wang Hao, afraid he would wake her up.

Wang Hao stopped in his tracks and thought he’d wait for her to wake up before visiting.

Just as he was about to get up and head home, he turned to Su Zhenping, pulling him aside with a secretive air.

"Uncle Su, come with me. I have something amazing to show you!"
