Chapter 5: Mimicry

Given that this room is full of orcs, he can assume that place is where they spawn. Spawn points and hallways of paths like a maze. Those two details lead him to believe that he is currently in a dungeon or a similar place. He bases his deductions from games and works of fiction, so there are chances that this cannot be the case.

After what seems to be an hour for him, he finally finishes eating all of their orc bodies in the room. For unknown reasons, he does not feel full despite consuming a huge amount of food. It may be a mimic trait or his own ability, he thinks to himself.

Nevertheless, he is satisfied with all the power-ups he has gained from eating hundreds of magic crystals. During the feast, he discovers that he can adjust the size of his body up to three times his mimic size. But the bigger he is, the more his strength is reduced.

Because of that he figures out he has some kind of energy he thinks to be mana in his body. He notices that the mana in his body is radiating similarly to the energy with the gems. In short, adjusting his size uses mana, which is quite inefficient at this point. Also, not using his mana is probably the reason why he cannot cast magic earlier.

The more he eats those monster gems, the longer he can change his size. In other words, his mana reservoir is continuously increasing its capacity. He is aware that his strength is also getting stronger in the process.

In fact, he feels like he has become exponentially a lot stronger and more powerful than when he first woke up in this body. In comparison, he needs to use his full strength to break a rib bone earlier, but now, a single, regular bite alone easily cuts through stacks of bones and flesh.

In addition, he can now open his mouth vertically by stretching his body higher than it should be instead of opening with hinges. His body has turned so flexible that he can open his mouth meters in length. That is why he manages to consume all of the orcs within a relatively short time.

(Wait a minute. If I can recreate the eyes of the orc into my body, so maybe...)

When the eyes appeared on his body earlier, he was actually yearning to see. So once he has eaten the eye, his bodily systems recognized his needs for vision and gave him eyes. For the same logic, now that he consumes several full bodies of orc, he can theoretically transform his entire body into that of an orc.

Giving it a try, he starts concentrating his mind into vividly visualizing the image of an orc, he uses a large amount of mana from his own magic crystal and channels it throughout his body. He then closes his eyes for a few seconds for better visuals. After seconds of focused visualization, his body suddenly morphs and begins to take another form.

(Aa! It hurts!)

As soon as the transformation begins, his entire body starts to break apart cell by cell to reconstruct the desired form, which is actually a painful process. In the process, his body generates so much heat that he is literally steaming.

Seconds have passed and he no longer feels any movements or changes in his body and so the pain. When he pries his eyes open, he notices that his eye level raises significantly. Looking below, he sees his fat and pink belly. In conclusion, he has successfully transformed into an orc.

(At last. I have hands.) Looking at his fist, he celebrates this milestone inwardly.

After that, he next peer down and check the most important thing, at least for him. With a smile on his face, he is satisfied that he can still have his male part. However, his smile slowly vanishes almost immediately.

(Though it’s kinda small relative to this body’s size. Also, I don’t like how it looks. Perhaps I should find something more humanoid next. Are there even humans in this world?)

Unsatisfied with his lack of prominence, he decides to undo that specific part, practically making his genderless at the moment. But he will definitely bring it back as soon as he finds the perfect specimen. If this was indeed the other world, he will definitely get some women and get laid as he never experienced that kind of activity back there on Earth.

Going back to the topic, he does some tests on his current body. As expected, maintaining the form consumes mana. Unexpectedly, it is not as wasteful as altering his mimic size.

Overtime, the mana consumption gradually shrinks until he does not burn mana at all. It only consumes large mana all at once during transformation. In conclusion, both full and partial transformation is resourcefully better than changing his real body’s size, which he find strange.

With this body, he is able to do human actions to a certain extent such as punching and kicking. To his surprise, an orc’s body can do some agile movements better than he expected.

(This body is rather fast for its size. As expected of an otherworldly being.)

With this, he has obtained more viable options that compensate the limits of his true body. In possession of more fighting capabilities surely rises his change to survive in the world. The more the better.

Since he has the idea of how to utilize his mana on top of gaining a voice, he tries to cast magic again. Visualizing the ball of flames in his mind while channeling his mana at the same time, he thrusts his four-fingered humanoid hands forward and attempts to release his first magic.

"FIREBALL."

...

The orc’s voice is deep and almost unintelligible but his pronunciation is clear, at least for him. Even so he still cannot do magic. He then looks at his hands and thinks if he lacked something or if he was not focusing enough. There is also a possibility that that kind of magic does not exist at all.

Since magic is still yet to attain, if there’s actually magic, he cancels the orc transformation and reverts back to his mimic form, which he is more comfortable with, before exiting the empty room and start wandering without destination again. freewebnoveℓ.com

Several minutes and a few turns have passed and he does not encounter any monster since that giant golem. Judging by the vastness of the hallways and the maze-like structure of the place, he highly suspects this place is a dungeon, a place so vast and massive that the monsters rarely encounter one another just like the distance between the stars in a galaxy despite appearing compacted from afar.

After taking a turn, he finally stumbles upon something new. He walks in front of it and face another entry similar to the one from before. Sensing no danger in it, he carefully walks inside and find a mountain of monster corpses. freewebnovёl.ƈom

When he takes a glance at a dead monster on his left, he sees that its physique is small and lean, thinner than the orc, and its skin is dark green. Its nose and ear are pointed. He immediately knows that these monsters are goblins, another classic fantasy monster.

(Although it’s smaller and more humanoid. I will never become a goblin.)

Afterwards, he opens his mouth wide and high and devour the goblin. Munch. If he were to be honest, they taste bad, so he only take a bite and proceed consuming their prisms instead.
