Chapter 43: Strong Head Winds
Fate put on a rare haughty tone and said to Bishop Gary Oldman:
"Hey, fatty, my maids had to do quite a bit of cleaning the other night when you sent those assassins to my home. They were all treated to the finest course of whupass that I have seen in quite some time."
When Bishop Gary Oldman heard about the assassination attempt, he grew frightened, wondering how those pawns failed in their mission. He sent so many of them. Next time he would send double the amount. But, being the idiot that he is, Bishop Gary ignored this dangerous line of accusations and flat out admitted the truth about them.
"So what if we sent a few assassins after you? What can you do about it, little lord? I only regret that they failed."
Every noble present at this time had their jaws hit the ground at this statement. They all wondered if this guy was a complete idiot.
This is noble and religion 101: never admit to your mistakes and very illegal acts in front of others or they will extort the shit out of you.
Fate was dumbfounded by this answer, so he said to Ruby and Amara:
"Ladies, is it just me or is this baboon dressed in white drapes a complete idiot?"
Both Ruby and Amara just quietly nodded their heads as they held back their shock and laughter.
Fate looked at Bishop Gary in his robes. They really did look like they were made from window curtains because that’s the only way you can find enough cloth to cover this rotund man.
With a bit of amusement, Fate said to Bishop Gary:
"So you admit that you sent people to kill me. Well, if that’s the case, then as per the excessively harsh laws that I just made up in my territory, you now owe me a shitload of compensation."
Bishop Gary sneered at this statement, responding:
"Fate Grimsever, you can’t get a cent from the church. We are protected by the laws of the Kingdom of Westridge and numerous laws from the entire continent of Vale. They all make us immune to the authority of the crown and, best of all, we get tax-exempt status."
While Bishop Gary Oldman was saying all of this, he failed to realize that Fate would do whatever he pleased and simply ignore the process, saying he had no knowledge of how the church in his territory suddenly lost its solid gold roof. He already had the perfect excuse ready: the roof was lost due to strong headwinds just like Fate was sure Bishop Gary’s hair was going to be soon. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
"Well, Bishop Gary, unfortunately, you met me today, so it’s time to pay your excessive back taxes which are going up by the second, I’m afraid. We will visit you twice a day in the future to make sure your taxes are always paid on time."
Then, with these words said, a group of maids suddenly ran up the steps of the church and used a bunch of grappling hooks to grab hold of the roof of this church. Then the giant building began to shake as they pulled the roof down to the ground.
The entrances of the church all began to open as a flood of priests and nobles ran out of it. Among them was the maid Maria who was currently carrying Prince Nimrod in her arms in a princess carry.
Behind these two came Bruno and Nimrod Pringle. The biggest shock was that the main entrance of the church turned out to be completely fake. It was just a giant piece of wood that was decorated elaborately to be made to look like a set of double doors.
As Ruby’s maids worked hard on pulling the gold roof off, Fate had to admire the quality of this building.
"Bishop Gary Oldman, your church has a very solid foundation. So I’m sure you can piece together a new roof in no time at all. As for my newly acquired gold roof that seems to have been blown off of your church by some strong headwinds making it land in the street, I will happily take possession of it since the city streets are my property and it’s my job to clean up any trash that falls on them."
Hearing Fate’s stupid excuse to take his precious roof that he saved donations for an entire month in order to acquire enough gold to make made Bishop Gary Oldman start to cry, but not as much as when one of the grappling hooks grabbed the golden-colored wig on his head, taking that along with his roof.
Bishop Gary grew so mad he yelled in anger:
"How dare you, sir! This is a crime against God to blaspheme her house with your foul presence and dare to take what belongs to her."
Fate nodded his head and then smiled, saying:
"Yeah, yeah, whatever, Bishop Baldy. I’m more aware than you can possibly imagine of the details regarding Vespera, the goddess of life. As for you, Bishop Gary, you’re only running this church as a way to scam money."
Bishop Gary Oldman jumped in fright that Duke Fate Grimsever somehow knew this insider information. But as the old scammer that Bishop Gary is, he quickly said to Fate:
"Lies and blasphemy! You are an abomination in the eyes of the goddess. The pope in the holy kingdom of Xeon has declared that you must be killed after all of the murders that you have committed. Not only for this crime, we have also received reports of you uplifting the poor and disenfranchised with food, shelter, and—goddess help me—an education. What you’re doing disrupts centuries of established doctrine."
Fate figured that his anti-rebellion reforms had something to do with this abomination issue. But even he was not aware that Ruby had made the issue far worse than Fate could even imagine with the creation of her cult that is spreading like a plague among the poor and homeless refugees.
At this time, a loud boom was heard throughout the city.

The crash of the church roof onto the ground shocked Bishop Gary Oldman, then he cried out to Fate:
"How in the hell are those women able to remove our roof like this without even collapsing my church?"
Ruby smirked and responded to Bishop Gary, saying:
"My girls are all extremely skilled in the art of debt collection. But this is not collecting a debt; your roof simply fell into the street from strong headwinds. Just like your hair, I’m afraid."
Before Bishop Gary Oldman could respond to Ruby, a blood-curdling scream was heard as the prince arrived.
"Duke Fate Grimsever, you bastard, you dare to show yourself in front of me!"
Fate saw Maria carry the prince to stand in front of him while he was being held by her. There was also a priest following Nimrod who was constantly casting healing magic on the prince’s national treasure.
Prince Nimrod Bloodsworn looked at Fate as his face turned red in anger. He was ready to punish Fate for his crimes today.
