Chapter 425: Chapter 427: Something Strange in the Well

The female ghost in red, her face crimson and dripping with blood, couldn’t help but add in a spectral whisper, "And there’s this other ghost living next to me. That one is the most disgusting—it even crawls into people’s beds!"

Su Nian blinked, a little astonished. ’There’s really someone like that?’

’Immune to Magic attacks, and it can even get into your bed?’

"That pervert was smothered to death under a blanket when she was alive, so her personality is just as twisted in death. She especially loves crawling into women’s beds. The thing is, she was a woman to begin with, and now she’s a female ghost!"

"She’s always wearing spiky clothes and has long hair, but for some reason, she insists on drawing on these two huge, thick eyebrows. She stinks, too. If you ask me, she’s scarier than an actual ghost!"

"On top of that, she loves being unconventional and chasing trends. She even calls herself a fashion bellwether!"

"Boss, I think you should take her in, too. Show her what real fashion looks like!"

The female ghost in red spoke with firm conviction, ending her speech with a bit of fawning praise for Su Nian.

Su Nian nodded, looking at the ghost’s gory, terrifying face with approval.

Her gaze then fell to the rainbow-colored bracelet on the ghost’s dangling wrist.

"You certainly have a good eye for aesthetics. Let’s go. Take me to her."

The female ghost in red carefully led the way. Although the other two ghostly lackeys were displeased that Su Nian hadn’t listened to them, they didn’t dare to object. They simply trailed behind her, their faces etched with disapproval.

The female ghost in red led Su Nian along the bank of a small river. Su Nian’s eyes caught the sign for the area.

Crocodile Enclosure.

The female ghost in red was in the middle of speaking fawningly to Su Nian when she suddenly lost her balance, teetering on the edge.

A flash of panic crossed the ghost’s face, but it was quickly replaced by smug self-satisfaction. It saw Su Nian instinctively reach out a hand to grab it.

At the same time, the smile on the red-clothed ghost’s face grew wider and wider.

But in the blink of an eye, the ghost saw Su Nian’s expression change from surprise to delight. Then, she snatched her hand back and began to laugh.

"Did you really think I’m an idiot?"

Su Nian’s smile was gentle and sweet, yet the chilling coldness in her eyes threatened to spill over.

Seeing Su Nian reach out, the red-clothed female ghost, believing her plan a success, was about to ensure Su Nian disappeared forever. The moment she fell into this water, the creature within would swallow her whole.

In that instant, the look of smug pride on Su Nian’s face—the one born from the ghost’s flattery—vanished without a trace.

It was replaced by a vicious sneer. Her outstretched hand froze mid-air.

Then, with a sudden kick, she sent the red-clothed female ghost flying. The ghost, still confused and unable to react or dematerialize, was kicked straight into the water below.

The splash of crimson vanished into the water with a huge commotion. It looked painful just to watch.

The impact nearly shattered the female ghost in red. Soaking wet, the blood from her form diffused into the water, making for a pathetic and laughable sight.

Her body was wracked with such intense pain that her face twisted into a grimace. For a moment, she couldn’t even get up.

But before she could even try, a black shadow flashed through the water. In the next second, both it and the female ghost in red were gone.

It all happened so fast that the scar-faced male ghost standing behind Su Nian hadn’t even processed her movements.

He only heard the female ghost in red let out a shrill scream before she vanished into the water.

Su Nian turned and walked away. She didn’t know the way, but relying on her understanding of ghosts and her own intuition, she made her way to a dry well.

Next, she approached a table. Beneath it was a single, very narrow and small drawer, about thirty centimeters wide and ten centimeters high.

The ghosts trailing behind her no longer dared to make a sound. Even the white-clothed female ghost, normally the most rambunctious of the lot, silently clamped her mouth shut.

One moment, Su Nian had seemed delighted by the red-clothed ghost’s flattery. The next, she had shoved her into the water without a second thought.

Su Nian walked over to an old well. It was surrounded by a bamboo grove and a small bamboo hut.

The atmosphere was gloomy and eerie. Su Nian ambled up to the bamboo hut and, without a shred of ceremony, kicked the door.

The decrepit door fell off its hinges with a loud CRASH.

Then the entire bamboo hut collapsed along with it.

Su Nian spun around, walked back to the old well, and grabbed the scar-faced male ghost.

"You’re up."

The scar-faced male ghost sucked in a sharp breath. He didn’t know what Su Nian wanted him to do, but he had been on edge from the moment she called on him.

The minced flesh that made up the scar-faced ghost’s face was trembling violently.

He was a sorry sight. After being "dealt with" by Su Nian, his body was a patchwork of red and black, and he reeked of smoked meat.

"Get down there and find it. I’ll pull you back up afterward."

The scar-faced male ghost nodded, understanding her command.

He glanced fearfully into the pitch-black depths of the well. Then, the chunks of flesh that were densely packed together to form his body began to separate along their fine seams.

He tossed his eyes down into the well, followed by a few pieces of his limbs.

The old well looked ancient, but surprisingly, it still held water. The chunks of flesh made a SPLASHING sound as they hit the surface.

You had to hand it to the craftsmanship of the old days; it was truly solid. Even the rim of the well was still perfectly sturdy.

The scar-faced ghost’s eyes floated in the well water, scanning the darkness for another ghost.

’He wasn’t happy about being ordered around by Su Nian,’ he thought, ’but the woman was an absolute demon. He just wanted to survive.’

He tried to console himself as he searched all around for his fellow ghost.

Suddenly, from a crack in the well’s wall, he spotted a venomous eye. It was smiling as it spied on him.

The terrifying gaze startled the scar-faced ghost so much he tried to take two steps back, only to realize—he didn’t have any feet!

Just as he was about to scream to warn Su Nian, he remembered something else: he’d forgotten to throw his mouth down!

His stiff, frightened reaction seemed to please the thing in the crack, which let out a few triumphant, hoarse laughs.

The very next second, however, its laughter twisted into a miserable cry of pain.

It turned out Su Nian had simply lifted a large rock and hurled it down the well.

"AHHH—! AARGH—!"

The unknown ghost’s agonized screams made the other ghosts by the well flinch. ’After a rock that big,’ they thought, ’it must be completely flattened by now.’

The very thought was painful.

And indeed, the rock Su Nian had thrown scraped the ghost off the well wall and knocked it into the water.

After a flurry of scrabbling sounds, the scar-faced ghost’s eyes finally saw it: a creature that looked like a gecko, but with human limbs.

The cramped space had completely deformed its body. Its skin was grotesque—soaking wet, covered in rotting, discolored scales. It moved in terrifying ways, contorting itself into physically impossible positions.

It clung to the smooth wall of the well, its face a mask of savagery as it stared upward.

"Don’t want to come up, huh? Then let me serve you an appetizer first!"

The assembled ghosts looked at one another, confused about what she meant by "appetizer."

But Su Nian was far more terrifying and deranged than she let on. First, she ordered the scar-faced ghost to retrieve his chunks of flesh from the water.

Then, as the creature below watched with a mixture of fear and bewilderment, she tossed a handful of lime into the water.

The intense chemical burn made the ghost in the well let out a bloodcurdling wail. It thrashed and crawled along the bottom.

Its appearance was finally revealed to the ghosts looking down from above.

They all gasped. ’That’s a ghost?’

’It looks more like a failed lab experiment!’

What they didn’t know, however, was that in the eyes of the creature below, Su Nian was the truly spine-chilling one.

The screams from the well distorted several times before finally dying down after a long while.
