Chapter 392: Chapter 394: I Heard You

The driver’s heart leaped into his throat. He slammed on the brakes, trembling with fear.

SCREECH...

"Did you guys see that?"

The driver was gasping for air in his seat. The sudden stop drew the passengers’ attention.

"What’s going on?"

"What happened?"

"What’s the big idea? I’m in a hurry to get home!"

"Don’t tell me we hit someone!"

The driver shivered, pointing at the window.

"Didn’t you see? There was a female ghost in white!"

He pointed straight ahead, out the front windshield, but the female ghost in white was now nowhere to be seen.

His words stunned the passengers for a moment before a chill ran down their spines.

They cautiously scanned their surroundings, but there were no strange traces of anything.

An eerie atmosphere spread through the bus as the passengers exchanged uneasy glances.

First, someone said this bus was going to have an accident, and now the driver was saying he saw a female ghost in white.

Even though they hadn’t seen it themselves, belief in such things was practically in their blood. The mere mention of it sent a deep-seated panic and worry through them.

"Why is it gone? It was right there a second ago!"

The driver was so scared he could barely stand, his body still frozen in shock. The image he had just seen played over and over in his mind.

He had seen it clearly: a woman in white had suddenly appeared, clinging to the windshield, her eyes streaming with bloody tears as she glared menacingly at him.

The more he thought about it, the more he trembled. The driver stood up, looking around in terror, but the female ghost had vanished, and the blood that had been on the windshield was gone too.

"Maybe he just saw things."

As the passengers’ complaints grew louder, the driver clutched his wildly beating heart and turned back around.

’Maybe I really did see it wrong,’ he thought. But just then, a voice spoke up.

"You didn’t see it wrong. It just moved. Why don’t you check the roof?"

Su Nian’s voice rang out abruptly. The passengers and the driver froze, and a sudden chill shot straight to their heads. Everyone instinctively looked up at the roof of the bus.

The bus had an emergency skylight made of transparent glass.

Hearing Su Nian’s words, everyone reflexively glanced toward the skylight.

The skylight was as dark as ever. Some people lowered their heads, chiding themselves for being crazy enough to believe just anyone.

But some people vaguely caught sight of something at the edge of the window—a strip of white gauze gently floating. No, it wasn’t gauze; it looked more like the stained hem of a dress.

Everyone froze in unison. It was as if no one dared to breathe.

The next second, the white hem grew larger, gradually obscuring the entire skylight.

"Heh heh!"

Suddenly, a dark mass pressed against the skylight. It was a human head covered in black hair, either faceless or with its features completely hidden by the strands.

Although they couldn’t see its face, they could feel the hateful smile lurking beneath the curtain of hair.

The driver was trembling. Many passengers gasped, biting their tongues to keep from screaming and alerting the ghost above.

Others secretly pinched themselves, just to check if they were dreaming.

I Love Work clutched their phone, their heart trembling.

’I thought it was supposed to be a disaster? What’s going on? What does this have to do with ghosts?’

"I want to get off! I want to get off!"

The passengers were frantic, and the driver was no different.

But as his hand reached for the door open button, he saw what looked like a small footprint on it.

The print was fresh and tinged with red. The driver panicked.

He was so terrified he lost his mind, leaping up high like a track and field athlete.

He jumped from the driver’s seat into the middle of the crowd of passengers.

"There’s another ghost clinging over there!"

The driver shrieked, and the bus descended further into chaos.

"I want to get off! I want to get off! Let me off!"

"Mom, I don’t think I’m coming home for dinner tonight!"

"What’s wrong? What’s wrong? Driver, just open the door!"

Some people hadn’t heard clearly and were just startled to see the driver in a mad panic, jumping around wildly.

The passengers instinctively backed away, trying to get as far from the driver’s seat as possible.

But one impatient person pushed forward, apparently intending to brave it and press the door open button.

"What’s there to be afraid of? What could it possibly be?"

The one who rushed forward was a young man in a neat tracksuit. His tone was dismissive as he adopted a brave facade.

But before his courage could have any effect, a small, dark shadow darted past the driver’s area and vanished.

The other passengers shrank back again.

"Er, I think safety is more important!"

The young man said, taking a few steps back himself.

He was genuinely panicked now. He hadn’t seen the female ghost with his own eyes, but what was that in the driver’s seat?

’Was that a child?’

They quickly remembered another key person: Su Nian.

A few of the quicker-witted passengers grabbed I Love Work.

"How did she know there were ghosts on this bus?"

"Is she really a master?"

"She is a real fortune-telling master! She’s super famous online, goes by Heavenly Venerable Bailian, and she even has her own Daoist Temple. Lots of people believe in her."

"Oh, I think I’ve heard of her!"

"Heavenly Venerable Bailian, right? I think my grandma mentioned a really gifted Little Fairy."

"Now that you mention it, my mom told me about her too, but I always thought it was fake."

"Heavenly Venerate, what should we do now?"

[Hahaha, eat your words! Who was it just now that was talking about feudal superstitions?]

[That reversal came so fast I can’t even watch!]

[I told you to trust the streamer! Now you’ve all been proven wrong!]

"This streamer is incredible. I only got to have her tell my fortune because I won a prize," I Love Work explained. "She just said this bus would have an accident, but I don’t know anything else."

Su Nian patiently explained, "This bus has too much death energy, which attracted some resentful spirits. These resentful spirits boarded the bus ahead of time so they could be the first to eat your fresh, warm souls after you die."

"But if you survive this fatal trial, these resentful spirits will disperse on their own. That’s why the bus is stopped here."

As soon as Su Nian finished her explanation, someone raised a question.

"Will that really work?"

"You say this is an online livestream? I’m still not quite convinced. I have a buddy who’s also in this line of work. How about I give him a call and ask!"

A man in a suit, enjoying the attention his words had drawn, puffed out his chest with a hint of pride.

He was a junior manager at some company, exhausted and weary after a full day of overtime, just trying to take the bus home.

He never expected to run into something like this. And now hearing this "master" say they should just stop the bus here... it sounded unreliable.

’We haven’t seen a single piece of Yellow Talisman Paper or a Peach Wood Sword, yet she’s jumping to conclusions. Isn’t that a bit rash?’

Besides, he had looked at the girl’s phone screen along with everyone else.

This so-called master fortune-teller was just a pretty girl.

’How could someone like that be a master?’

’He didn’t even believe there were ghosts to begin with!’

’These people are just sucking up to her. They’ll regret it when they get scammed.’

As he spoke, he dialed his good buddy’s number.

The call connected, and he spoke in a booming voice.

But the other end of the line was completely silent, as if no one was there.

"Hello! Ah De, can you hear me? Ah De, can you hear me?"

"Hee hee hee, I can hear you..."
