Chapter 24: Ch 24: The Confession Train On Bridge VI
Spider-Gwen had landed on a thick steel beam about twenty feet away from him, crouching like a predator ready to pounce.
"You’re back, Spider-Woman!" Veritas said, as if really happy to see her again, his voice dripping with sweetness.
He was perched at the very peak of the bridge’s steel arch, his legs dangling and swinging back and forth.
"I knew you couldn’t stay away from me for long. I just have that special spark, don’t I?" He said, lifting his palm and showing her some literal sparks.
"Drop your creepy bullshit already, clowney creep," she said casually, standing up and resting one hand on her hip. "Tell me about the kill switch, and I’ll spare you a kick to the face."
"Aww, but where’s the fun in that?" Veritas sighed dramatically, pushing himself to his feet. He dusted off his perfectly clean trousers. "Why don’t you just try to pickpocket it from me like last time? I mean, you’re already an expert at stealing things from me."
"Okay," Gwen said as she stretched her arms, a quick warmup, "Fine. Double the number of kicks then."
"Oh, Spider-Woman," Veritas tilted his head, his palms already sparking with tiny, dangerous orange pops. "That would be my pleasure."
They didn’t waste another second.
BOOM!

BOOM!
Never having the time to look at the comments like always, Luke blasted off the arch, rocketing straight toward her like a chaotic missile, leaving a thick trail of oragne explosions in his wake.
Thwip!
Gwen launched herself into the air, firing a web to a support cable above. She swung in a tight, fast arc, her boots aimed right for his chest.
The rematch was on.
As they closed the distance, Gwen expected him to fire a wide shockwave like last time, trying to blast her out of the sky. She braced herself, ready to flip out of the way.
But Veritas didn’t shoot a shockwave.
As she swung closer, his mask’s expression shifted into a sharp, focused sneer. He aimed his right palm directly at her.
’AP-Shot!’
A shrieking, highly concentrated beam of explosive energy fired from his palm. It didn’t spread out; it sliced through the air like a laser.
Gwen’s spider-sense screamed.
She twisted her body violently to the side, letting go of her web. The AP-Shot missed her shoulder by an inch, the intense heat roasting the white fabric of her suit.
"Whoa!" Gwen yelped, tumbling through the air.
’Last time he needed some prep time for that move...’ she thought, remembering how he had to brace himself and bring his other palm in a circle in front of the shooting one.
She stuck to the pillar on the side. ’He has already mastered it to this level?’
BOOM! BOOM!
Veritas wasn’t giving her a single second to breathe. He was already flying toward her, using rapid-fire bursts from his palms to zigzag erratically through the air.
His movements were sharper, faster, and way more controlled than their fight on the Daily Bugle roof.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Three massive explosions slammed into the steel beam. The sheer concussive force bent the thick metal backward, sending a shower of burning shrapnel and red paint raining down toward the river.
Gwen was already gone.
She vaulted off the pillar a split second before the blasts hit, flipping backwards through the air. She fired a web over her shoulder, snagging a lower crossbeam, and pulled herself into the maze of the bridge’s steel structure. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
She scrambled down the steel like a true spider, moving in a blur of white and pink. But Veritas was right behind her.
BOOM!
Another explosive blast shattered the crisp air, turning a perfectly good steel crossbeam into a twisted piece of modern art.
Gwen swung right through the lingering smoke, coughing slightly as the smell of burnt metal filled her nose.
"Are you trying to kill me, or just really hate public infrastructure?!" she yelled, firing a web-string to a support cable and yanking herself sideways.
"I’m a Jester, Spider-Woman! An artist..." Veritas shouted from somewhere in the smoke. "And this bridge is my canvas! You’re just the very, very fast paintbrush!"
"That literally makes zero sense!"
"It sounded cool in my head, alright!"
He rocketed after her, palms blazing. Each explosion launched him forward in jagged, unpredictable bursts. He moved less like a flyer and more like a pinball from hell, bouncing between blasts with manic energy.
He was fast. And then he was right behind her.
Gwen’s spider-senses buzzed, her eyes perceived him in slow motion...
He raised both hands, aiming right at her mid-air. Gwen’s arms, already moving on insane reflex.
"Dodge this!" he cheered.
A massive blast of orange and yellow flames roared from his hands. It was a large-scale explosion, wide enough to swallow a whole truck.
Instead of swinging away, she fired two web-lines straight up, hitting the peak metal support of the bridge. She pulled hard, shooting up out of the blast radius.
The sea of fire washed over her just as she ascended, the intense heat scorching the white and black fabric of her suit. She winced as the flames licked through the material, burning her skin in a few patches.
"Hot! Hot! Hot!" Gwen grunted, ignoring the severe pain as adrenaline flooded her veins.
She reached the very peak of the bridge’s arch, pausing in the air for a fraction of a second. Below her, Veritas was still riding the momentum of his massive blast.
Without wasting a beat, Gwen shot two webs straight down, anchoring them to the steel beams below her.
Yanking herself downward with all her super-strength, she plummeted from the sky like a white-and-pink comet.
Luke turned his head up just then, and instantly reacted with an [AP shot], but it was already too late.
WHAM!
Gwen twisted her torso to dodge his [AP Shot] and used her rotating momentum to drop a brutal, spinning kick right onto his masked face.
The impact sounded like a baseball bat hitting a ball. Luke lost his balance entirely, plummeting down through the bridge’s framework and crashing hard onto the railway tracks of the bridge.
The metal ground beneath him groaned loudly. His head spun a bit, his vision blurring from the sheer, concussive force of the impact.
’Damn,’ Luke thought as he stood back up again, ’A strength that can stop moving trains, hold buildings, and falling bridges together hurts like hell. And she’s nimble as heck.’
He shook his head, trying to blink away the stars dancing in his eyes... He tasted iron on his tongue and felt a warm line of blood trickling from his lips beneath his mask.
’The bridge’s structure provides her an advantage,’ he noted in his head. It was a spider’s playground. She had too many things to swing from, too many angles to bounce off of.
He had to take it away.
’It’s time I show her my limits,’ he thought, a grin spreading across his bloodied lips behind the mask, ’The sky...’
