Chapter 393: Chapter 220: Wife Swapped for Mother-in-Law, and Lu Yuan Is Having a Hard Time Adjusting

Bengbeng scooped Xiaotian up with one hand. When held up, the honey badger was as long as she was tall.

It was incredible that Bengbeng, not even a year old, possessed such strength.

Xiaotian’s head hung down toward the ground, and he was utterly dejected. ’This all happened so fast. I can’t believe I was just picked up by a little baby.’

Just a moment ago, Xiaotian had promised Lu Yuan he wouldn’t scratch his daughter. Now, it seemed he was the one who should have been worried.

’Losing to the big snake was one thing, but he couldn’t even beat the little one. He was being dangled in the air by her!’

’Are all of Big Bro’s daughters this fierce? Shouldn’t children of the Human Race be afraid of cats and dogs? Why isn’t she scared of me, Brother Pingtou?!’

Holding Xiaotian by his hind legs, Bengbeng giggled and said to Lu Yuan, "Daddy, this little animal is so cute! I’ll show you a special trick."

Lu Yuan placed a hand on his forehead, looking utterly helpless. He glanced at Xiaotian, hoping he would hold his tongue. He absolutely couldn’t speak out of turn, or it would cause a huge stir.

’With kids, the more you tell them not to say something, the more they’ll want to say it.’

’If Bengbeng found out Xiaotian was a talking Brother Pingtou, the whole estate would know by tomorrow.’

Holding Xiaotian, Bengbeng started swinging him around in a one-armed windmill.

Xiaotian was spun until he was dizzy and his vision blurred. He felt like he was about to throw up last night’s dinner.

Bengbeng was too young to have a clear sense of right and wrong, which made an adult’s guidance all the more important.

Xiaotian clenched his jaw, doing his best not to cry out.

’As a proud and stubborn Brother Pingtou, I will not lower my noble head so easily.’

While Bengbeng’s grandmother was in her room getting ready, she heard an unusual noise from outside.

Bengbeng always slept with her grandmother. Usually, around this time, she would be getting some fresh air just outside the door, waiting for her grandmother to finish getting ready so they could go have breakfast.

Worried Bengbeng was getting into trouble, Su Liyan’s mother didn’t even bother to finish pinning up her hair bun. She hurried outside and saw her granddaughter, Bengbeng, playing with a Brother Pingtou.

Su Liyan’s mother was still in her pajamas, a set embroidered with large red flowers. The pajamas were so washed-out that they had faded, and the red flowers had turned pink.

Su Liyan’s mother wasn’t short on money by any means; her children were all quite successful. So why was she so reluctant to replace a set of pajamas that were already faded from washing?

It was because people from the countryside were used to being frugal. A few sets of clothes could last for years. As for how many years, that depended entirely on when they got a hole in them!

You only got new clothes if the old ones had a big hole. Small holes could just be patched up, and you’d keep on wearing them.

Of course, there was an upside to what Su Liyan’s mother was doing. Old clothes that were washed for years wouldn’t have any residual toxic substances on them.

It wasn’t like cheap, modern clothes, which could be full of carcinogens like excessive aromatic amines or benzidines.

Problems always arise when human ethics can’t keep pace with technological development.

When Lu Yuan saw his mother-in-law come out, he held up a hand in a "stop" gesture, likely afraid she would rush to defend her granddaughter.

’Kids get spoiled mainly because adults spoil them.’

Lu Yuan reached out to stop Bengbeng, blurting out, "Bengbeng, you can’t be so rude to Uncle Xiaotian!"

Startled by her father’s shout, Bengbeng froze on the spot and set the Brother Pingtou in her hand down on the ground.

Xiaotian felt like he was about to pass out. ’Getting bullied by a little snake...’ he thought groggily. ’How thrilling! Haven’t had this much of a thrill in a long time! I’ve brought complete shame to the name of Brother Pingtou!’

Bengbeng asked with a bewildered look, "Daddy, what are you saying?"

Lu Yuan seemed to realize his slip of the tongue. He coughed to cover up the awkward moment.

Lu Yuan crouched down to his daughter’s level. "Bengbeng, every little animal should be treated with kindness, right?"

Bengbeng nodded firmly. "Yes, Daddy. Grandma told me that."

Lu Yuan nodded, pleased. "Then why were you swinging it around like a windmill just now, Bengbeng?"

"Daddy, I like it! I just wanted to play with it," Bengbeng said with a pout.

Though Bengbeng was only a year old, with her lovely features and huge, doll-like eyes, you could already tell that when she grew up, no man would be able to handle her—aside from the occasional bleached-blond delinquent, of course.

Of course, Lu Yuan would never allow any such bleached-blond delinquents within a hundred miles of his daughter.

Lu Yuan continued his lesson. "Bengbeng, you have to remember, it’s okay to play with others, but you have to be careful about *how* you play.

When you did that, it probably wasn’t comfortable for it, and it might not have wanted to play that way. So was what you did the right thing?"

Bengbeng looked at the dizzy Brother Pingtou and said thoughtfully, "Daddy, I was wrong!"

"My sweet girl is so smart," Lu Yuan praised. "Let’s let it recover for a bit. Once it’s feeling better, you need to apologize to it, okay?"

Su Liyan’s mother stood to the side, watching her son-in-law teach her granddaughter, not saying a word the entire time.

Lu Yuan picked Bengbeng up, stroking her little head. "Sweetie, go have breakfast with Grandma now. You can play with Xiaotian after you’re done eating!"

"Okay, Daddy," Bengbeng replied. "So his name is Xiaotian? Is he an uncle?"

Lu Yuan passed Bengbeng to Su Liyan’s mother and said, "Just call him Xiaotian."

Lu Yuan could see clearly that his mother-in-law was only wearing her thin pajamas, which were a little translucent.

Bengbeng grabbed the collar of her grandmother’s pajamas and waved. "Daddy, Grandma and I are going to eat now. Bye-bye!"

Su Liyan’s mother glanced at the Brother Pingtou on the ground and said, "We’ll leave you to it, son-in-law."

"Okay, Mother!"

Su Liyan’s mother carried Bengbeng back to her room. It was a bit chilly, so she’d need to put on another layer or two and fix her hair before they could go to breakfast.
