Chapter 392: Chapter 219: Aunt Song, It’s So Stuffy in There, Come on Out
Inside the room, Lu Yuan and Su Liyan were chatting. With their excellent hearing, they faintly heard a howl from outside the Mansion Gate, but didn’t immediately recognize it as Xiaotian’s cry.
Lu Yuan and Su Liyan didn’t think much of it. Taiping City was normally very peaceful, with no troublemakers to speak of.
The invisible Xiaotian, relying on his Talent Skills, was difficult to spot. He swaggered right through the Mansion Gate.
Inside the Zhao Mansion, Xiaotian sniffed his way along. Besides the aroma of food, he picked up seven or eight different kinds of cosmetic scents. A few of the highest quality ones were the perfumes worn by Lu Yuan’s women.
The perfumes Lu Yuan’s women wore were all personally blended by him and were far superior to those common cosmetics.
Even Xiaoqian had smelled the perfume on Su Liyan and wheedled some out of her.
But cosmetics weren’t Xiaotian’s goal. He followed the scent of food mixed in with the others, tracking it all the way to the Zhao Mansion’s back kitchen.
Xiaotian entered the back kitchen, stepped on a vegetable basket, and leaped onto the cutting board. On the table were the leftovers from Lu Yuan’s group’s dinner.
Xiaotian licked a piece of braised pork knuckle. ’Good heavens, this is unbelievably delicious.’
Xiaotian stuck his head into a wine jar and took a couple of gulps. ’So this is the Human Race’s alcohol. It’s alright, not too strong!’
Already ravenous, Xiaotian began to feast. In just over ten minutes, he had polished off all the cooked food in the back kitchen.
The plates were licked so clean they looked like they had just been washed.
Aside from the cooked food and fruit wine, Xiaotian didn’t touch anything else. You could say he was a diner with principles; at least he didn’t waste any food.
Xiaotian let out a satisfied burp and scratched his round, bulging belly.
A wave of drowsiness washed over him, and he could barely keep his eyes open.
Xiaotian had been bumping around in the trunk all day and was exhausted.
Full and content, Xiaotian lay down on the cutting board, belly-up with his paws together, and fell into a deep sleep.
As he slept soundly, Xiaotian gradually became visible again...
The party didn’t break up until late at night. Xiaoqian and Su Changliang also stayed at the Zhao Mansion instead of returning to the Su Mansion.
The Zhao Mansion was Xiaoqian’s family home.
It was a night destined to be filled with fireworks in two separate rooms.
One was Lu Yuan’s room, and the other was Su Changliang’s.
Zhao Qiao’Er slept alone, hugging Huanhuan. Her plump rear was still swollen and sore as she slept.
Bengbeng was used to sleeping with her grandmother, so even though her mother was back, she still clamored to sleep with her.
Su Liyan didn’t force her daughter to stay. The child was almost a year old; it was normal for her to have a mind of her own.
Only a few people knew that Bengbeng was prone to atavism.
Under her grandmother’s care, Bengbeng hadn’t experienced it again.
After her atavistic episode in Changliu Village, her body’s growth rate had quickened, and the energy within her was increasing daily.
Lu Yuan was aware of this. He would find a way to suppress the rampaging energy inside Bengbeng. Her body was still small and couldn’t handle so much power.
Since Bengbeng was happy to sleep with her grandmother, Su Liyan slept with Lu Yuan.
Song Meiqin hadn’t been with Lu Yuan in a long time, and she’d heard he was leaving for the Imperial Capital soon, meaning their time together would only become scarcer.
Song Meiqin didn’t want to miss any time with Lu Yuan. Even though she was pregnant, she insisted on having him hold her as she slept.
However, Song Meiqin would only let Lu Yuan hold her; she wouldn’t let him touch her improperly.
Ever since becoming pregnant, Song Meiqin had insisted on not being intimate with Lu Yuan. She said it was for the baby’s good, to prevent the newborn from having spots on its skin.
Lu Yuan, Su Liyan, and Song Meiqin lay on the same large, heated bed, but Song Meiqin was adamant about not letting Lu Yuan make a move on her.
Rebuffed by Song Meiqin, Lu Yuan had no choice but to turn his attention to his wife.
Lu Yuan asked, "Meiqin, since you won’t let me, I’ll just have to put my energy toward my wife. Don’t you go peeking from the side!"
"Fine. You do your thing. I absolutely won’t peek," Song Meiqin said haughtily, confident she could resist Lu Yuan’s temptations.
Song Meiqin lay on one side of the bed.
After dinner, Lu Yuan had already had a round with Aunt Zhao. If he simply turned off the lights and went to sleep holding Su Liyan and Song Meiqin, that would have been fine too.
But out of a competitive spirit, Lu Yuan decided to put on a show with his wife right in front of Song Meiqin, to make her drool with envy.
’Let’s see if Song Meiqin can control herself then.’
Song Meiqin, lying to one side, couldn’t sleep on her side because of her pregnancy.
Sleeping on her side could put pressure on the baby in her womb, so Song Meiqin could only turn her head away.
’Out of sight, out of mind!’
Her eyes might not see, but her ears couldn’t help but hear.
’Meiqin, oh Meiqin, you have to hold on!’ Song Meiqin kept telling herself.
Song Meiqin pulled a blanket over her head and hugged it tightly.
Seeing this, Lu Yuan was delighted. ’How about it? Still holding out? If you knew it would be like this, why insist? You’re just making yourself miserable.’
That night, the fragrant scent of heather filled the backyard of the Zhao Mansion in Taiping City.
After a busy night, Lu Yuan was sound asleep, hugging a blanket with his rear in the air.
Song Meiqin had long since returned to her own room. Su Liyan remained, lying on the bed and watching the sleeping Lu Yuan.
In the back kitchen, Uncle Fatty stared at the honey badger on the cutting board, lost in thought.
Uncle Fatty held up his meat cleaver and muttered to himself, ’This butcher from the west side of the city is terrible. The Young Master is back and wants a roasted suckling pig, but they didn’t even remove the hair!’
Resigned, Uncle Fatty found a whetstone, pulled up a small stool to sit on, splashed some water on the stone, and began sharpening his cleaver back and forth.
After just a few strokes, sweat was pouring down his face. ’That Xiaoliu’Er, honestly! He just brings back a suckling pig and tosses it onto the cutting board!’
Don’t be fooled by Uncle Fatty’s out-of-shape appearance; his cooking skills were exceptional. Song Meiqin’s pregnancy had given her a severe loss of appetite, and she only managed to eat anything because of how delicious Uncle Fatty’s food was.
Once Uncle Fatty finished sharpening his cleaver, he walked over to the cutting board, grabbed Xiaotian’s four paws, and flipped him over.
There’s quite a difference in appearance between a honey badger and a suckling pig, but Uncle Fatty had never seen a honey badger before and just assumed it was a new breed of pig.
Uncle Fatty took the cleaver and scraped it across Xiaotian’s back, making a SCRAPING sound.
’Why is this pig’s hair so tough!’ Uncle Fatty lifted the cleaver, preparing to cut into the tenderloin on its back.
The sleeping Xiaotian, feeling himself being cut open in his dream, jolted awake.
Xiaotian opened his bleary eyes, saw the large cleaver raised high above him, and let out a howl.
Uncle Fatty, thinking it was just a recently deceased suckling pig, was so frightened that he stumbled back several steps and froze on the spot.
Xiaotian scrambled on his four paws, scurrying frantically around the kitchen while wailing pitifully.
Once he came to his senses, Uncle Fatty raised his cleaver and gave chase.
Su Liyan could hear the commotion in the kitchen from several rooms away. ’Xiaotian? I didn’t see him at all yesterday. It couldn’t be him, could it?’
Su Liyan wasn’t wearing much at the moment, just enough to barely cover the essential parts.
Women are the slowest to get dressed. Su Liyan couldn’t possibly go to the back kitchen in such a state of undress. It would be terrible if the servants saw her.
In her panic, a helpless Su Liyan slapped Lu Yuan’s butt, crying, "Honey~ wake up, something’s happened!"
Lu Yuan shot bolt upright. Looking at his scantily clad wife, he asked, "What’s wrong?"
Su Liyan clutched the blanket with her left hand and pointed toward the back kitchen with her right index finger. "Honey~ listen!"
Lu Yuan listened for a few seconds, then grabbed his boxers and pants from the foot of the bed and pulled them on together. He slipped on his slippers, grabbed a shirt, and ran out the door.
’No time, no time! That sounds like a pig being slaughtered!’ Lu Yuan thought as he ran. ’Xiaotian, you have to hang in there! I don’t want to end up eating you... though I wonder if your meat is tough. Maybe it would be good with some minced garlic.’
BANG! Lu Yuan kicked the door open in his slippers.
Xiaotian, who was being chased and chopped at, saw Lu Yuan’s arrival as if a god had descended from the heavens.
’Oh my god, the Boss is here to save me!’
Xiaotian used every ounce of his strength, leaping more than a meter into the air and diving straight into Lu Yuan’s arms.
Lu Yuan caught Xiaotian and stopped the other man. "Uncle Fatty, what’s going on?"
Uncle Fatty was halfway through explaining the whole story.
Just then, Xiaoliu’Er walked in, carrying a disemboweled, de-haired suckling pig. "Young Master, good morning!" he called out.
Staring at the suckling pig in Xiaoliu’Er’s hand, Uncle Fatty finally understood what had happened. He quickly apologized, "Young Master, it’s my fault! I almost hurt your pet."
’Pet? You’re the pet,’ Xiaotian cursed inwardly.
Seeing it was all a misunderstanding, Lu Yuan said, "No harm done. Carry on with your work."
"Yes, Young Master. Take care, Young Master!" the two said in unison.
Lu Yuan had just stepped out of the kitchen with Xiaotian in his arms when he heard Uncle Fatty say, "You, Xiaoliu’Er! You take forever to bring back one pig, and you almost made me kill the Young Master’s pet! I think you’ve lost your appetite for today’s meals."
"Uncle Fatty, I was wrong!" Xiaoliu’Er cried, clutching his head in pain.
Still shaken, Xiaotian whispered from Lu Yuan’s arms when he saw no one was around, "Boss, if you’d come any later, I’d have been served up on a platter."
Lu Yuan teased, "You probably would’ve tasted pretty good. But why did you run to the kitchen?"
Xiaotian, mimicking a human, wiped the corners of his eyes with his front paws and said through a flood of crocodile tears, "Isn’t it because the Boss left me behind? I was hungry, so I came looking for food here!"
Lu Yuan continued, "So, you went into the kitchen and stole food?"
Xiaotian craned his neck defiantly. "Stole? How can you call that stealing?"
Lu Yuan dropped Xiaotian and walked back toward the kitchen.
Seeing this, Xiaotian muttered, "So I ate a little of your food. Is it really such a big deal? The richer people are, the stingier they get!"
Lu Yuan walked to the kitchen entrance and said, "Uncle Fatty, throw out all the pots, pans, and dishes in here. My pet licked them, so they’re not clean!"
Uncle Fatty replied cheerfully, "Alright, Young Master. We have plenty of kitchen supplies in the storeroom. I’ll replace everything with a new set."
"Okay, Uncle Fatty. Thanks for your hard work," Lu Yuan said before leaving.
Xiaotian trailed after Lu Yuan, grumbling, "Boss, why are you so disgusted with me?"
Lu Yuan’s previous action had wounded Xiaotian’s fragile heart.
Lu Yuan led Xiaotian away, saying, "You licked everything. I have no desire to ingest E. coli or salmonella."
Although Xiaotian could speak and understand the Human Race’s language, he couldn’t comprehend what the Boss had just said.
Xiaotian asked irritably, "What-coli? What-nella? Do they not taste good?"
Lu Yuan tossed back, "I’m a clean freak and I don’t want to get diarrhea, alright?"
Xiaotian was baring his teeth to protest when Bengbeng walked out of her room.
When Bengbeng saw the honey badger, she wasn’t scared at all. She just thought he was very cute.
Xiaotian saw a small child running toward him.
Xiaotian looked up and asked, "Boss, what’s this fresh little snack got to do with your wife?"
Lu Yuan replied casually, "My daughter. Maybe you should slip away?"
Xiaotian was unconcerned, even a little disdainful. "Me? Slip away? Don’t worry, Boss. I won’t scratch your daughter, I..."
Seeing Bengbeng about to reach him, Xiaotian, afraid of revealing he could talk, quickly shut his mouth and bared his teeth in what he hoped was a friendly grin.
Without a word, Bengbeng grabbed Xiaotian by his hind legs and lifted him up...
