Chapter 57: Chapter 57: What Nonsense Are You Talking?
"You orchestrated the car crash, didn’t you?"
Miles Prescott was startled by Anne Sutton’s words. "How can you say something like that?"
The doctors were present when he spoke, especially the hospital director, who had arrived with Miles Prescott. Hearing Anne Sutton, he immediately cut her off. "Sutton, is that any way to speak to Mr. Prescott? He called me personally to ensure your parents were well taken care of, saying you are all dear friends of his. How can you think so ill of him? This was just an accident. The at-fault party has already paid the medical fees!"
Anne Sutton said, "You certainly have your methods, Mr. Prescott."
Miles Prescott said, "Anne, I know you’re frightened. I don’t mind. I was shocked when this happened, too. Thankfully, your parents aren’t seriously injured."
The director looked at Anne Sutton and said, "See? Mr. Prescott isn’t even holding it against you. You need to calm down. Nobody wanted this to happen. Don’t take your emotions out on others, you’ll only end up hurting the people who care about you."
Sean Sutton glanced at Anne Sutton and said, "The director’s right."
Anne Sutton glanced at her mother, then at her father. Miles Prescott was the type of person who, despite being impolite to the Sutton Family, was excellent at managing his relationships with anyone he might need.
’Even if I accuse him now, he’ll never admit it.’
’Everyone else will just think I’m being childish and speaking without thinking.’
Watching the scene unfold, Anne Sutton held her tongue.
Because she realized that the more she accused him, the more he looked like the good guy.
The director and Miles Prescott left after visiting Mr. and Mrs. Sutton.
Sean Sutton looked at Anne Sutton and said, "Why did you speak to your Uncle Prescott like that? What will people think of our family if you act like that? They’ll think your mother and I didn’t raise you right. You have no manners at all."
Hearing her father’s words, Anne Sutton retorted, "Why did he invite you to dinner today? Why did an accident happen right after? Dad, don’t be so naive! I’m pregnant with Nathan Fawcett’s child. He won’t let this go."
"He won’t let it go? Then why are you fine? Wouldn’t it be more direct for him to just deal with you?" Sean Sutton shot Anne Sutton a look. "You’re just overthinking things. Your hatred for Charles Prescott has made you irrational. Choosing to be with Nathan Fawcett is one thing, but I’ve known your Uncle Prescott for years. He would never do the things you’re accusing him of."
Anne Sutton looked at Sean Sutton. "Dad, can you please not be so naive? What makes you think that man, a Prescott, is a good person? He’s always looked down on us, haven’t you noticed? If he had any respect for us, why would he have let Charles Prescott break off our engagement?" ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
"Anne," Sean Sutton said, "haven’t you noticed how prejudiced you’ve become against the Prescott family ever since that business with Charles Prescott? Hasn’t the Prescott family been helping us all these years? Your Uncle Prescott is just a busy man."
Seeing her father, injured yet still arguing forcefully, Anne Sutton said, "...Forget it. Just get some rest. I won’t say any more."
’It’s enough that I know the truth!’
’This is probably the exact effect Miles Prescott was going for. He just wanted to warn me!’
Sean Sutton said to Anne Sutton, "I know you’re with Nathan Fawcett now, and with him protecting you, you feel like you’re invincible. But can Nathan Fawcett protect you for the rest of your life? When you live in this world, you shouldn’t make so many enemies. Do you understand?"
Anne Sutton realized it was useless to say any more without proof. "Maybe you’re right."
She walked out of the room and saw Miles Prescott talking to the man responsible for the Sutton family’s car crash. She walked over and faced Miles Prescott. "And you still say you didn’t do it?"
Miles Prescott looked up at Anne Sutton. His bodyguards were standing beside him.
His gaze fell on Anne Sutton, and the corners of his mouth lifted. "Anne, why aren’t you inside with your parents? What are you doing out here?"
Anne Sutton stared at the man sitting in the chair and demanded, "He ordered you to stage the crash, didn’t he?"
The man looked at Anne Sutton, completely baffled. "I don’t know what you’re talking about."
Someone walked over and grabbed Anne Sutton’s arm. "Anne Sutton."
Anne Sutton looked up and saw Charles Prescott standing in front of her.
Anne Sutton said, "My parents’ accident has something to do with your father, doesn’t it? Charles Prescott, you know exactly what kind of person your father is. You two are cut from the same cloth."
’I really don’t get it. How can Miles Prescott be so brazen?’
Miles Prescott stood to the side, watching Anne Sutton calmly.
The at-fault driver also watched Anne Sutton.
Charles Prescott observed the scene, then said to Miles Prescott, "Dad, she’s just scared."
With that, he grabbed Anne Sutton’s arm. "Come with me."
As he grabbed her, Anne Sutton struggled. "Let go of me!"
Charles Prescott ignored her and simply dragged her away, out of Miles Prescott’s line of sight.
Nathan Fawcett and his butler had just walked in from outside and happened to see Charles Prescott pulling Anne Sutton away.
The butler looked at Nathan Fawcett. "Mr. Fawcett."
Nathan Fawcett walked in. When Miles Prescott saw him, he said, "Nathan, what are you doing here?"
Nathan Fawcett replied, "I heard my father-in-law and mother-in-law were in a car accident, so I came to see them."
Miles Prescott said, "I’m very sorry that something like this happened. But I’ve already instructed the hospital to take good care of everything. Don’t worry! You’re not well yourself, why aren’t you at home recovering? For a small matter like this, you were worried I couldn’t handle it?"
Nathan Fawcett looked at Miles Prescott. "Then thank you for taking care of it."
...
Charles Prescott dragged Anne Sutton outside where no one was around. She struggled for a moment before he finally let her go.
Anne Sutton said, "Why did you drag me out here? Feeling guilty?"
Charles Prescott said, "I was just saving you."
"Saving me?" Anne Sutton stared at Charles Prescott and asked, "You followed me all the way home today because you were afraid your dad would do something to me, weren’t you? You already knew he would do something, you just didn’t expect him to go after my family instead."
Seeing that she was trying to trap him with her words, Charles Prescott denied it. "No."
Anne Sutton laughed. "Your dad was never on board with us being together. Charles Prescott, you should have broken off the engagement and split up with me long ago. Then we wouldn’t have ended up in this mess today."
’His father walks all over him, and he drives me up the wall.’
’He doesn’t even love me, so what’s the point of all this?’
"If we had broken off the engagement earlier, would your Sutton Family even have survived this long?" Charles Prescott stared at her. "Don’t be ridiculous."
Anne Sutton had to admit that it was indeed with his help that the Sutton family had managed to hold on until now.
Anne Sutton said deliberately, "So, you’re saying the only reason you didn’t break off our engagement all these years was to help the Sutton Family?"
