Chapter 53: Chapter 53: Standing Up for Her
"If you like it, buy it," Anne Sutton said.
The butler quickly pushed the shopping cart over.
Nathan Fawcett walked ahead, tossing anything that caught his eye into the cart. He quickly amassed a large pile of items.
Anne Sutton wasn’t interested in shopping, so she stopped after just a few steps.
She found a chair and sat down.
’She didn’t know where Nathan Fawcett got this sudden enthusiasm from. Still, it was clear that the prospect of becoming a father made him quite happy.’
’Otherwise, he wouldn’t be dragging his completely spent body here to do things the servants could have easily handled.’ ƒгeewёbnovel.com
A salesclerk poured her some water. She took a couple of sips and chatted with them for a while.
Just as she was enjoying the chat, she saw Sylvia Warren and Charles Prescott walk in.
Sylvia Warren followed beside Charles Prescott, saying petulantly, "You haven’t come to see me in so long!"
Charles Prescott listened to Sylvia Warren’s words, but he didn’t really want to deal with her.
His mood had been a mess lately, and with Mia Shaw in town on business, he could hardly find the time.
’But she was carrying his child, after all.’
’Besides...’
’His grandmother on the Prescott side was in poor health and had always wanted a great-grandchild.’
’So, he couldn’t just ignore Sylvia Warren.’
’Women... They always need to be placated!’
It just so happened that he had some time after a meeting today, so he came out to have a meal with her.
But as soon as he walked in the door, he saw Anne Sutton sitting there.
Anne Sutton saw them too.
Sylvia Warren held Charles Prescott’s arm, picked up a small toy, and asked, "Honey, what do you think of this one?"
"It’s alright." Charles Prescott didn’t even look.
His eyes were fixed on Anne Sutton, as if he wanted to burn a hole through her.
Seeing Charles Prescott staring, Sylvia Warren followed his gaze and was shocked to find Anne Sutton there.
Sylvia Warren’s expression darkened, and a wave of jealousy washed over her. ’When will Charles ever give me even half the attention he gives Anne Sutton?’
"Isn’t that Ms. Sutton? What’s she doing here?"
Charles Prescott didn’t answer, walking directly up to Anne Sutton. "You came alone?"
"It’s none of your business." Anne Sutton looked at the two of them and said, "Mr. Prescott and Miss Warren seem to be on very good terms."
’He’d wanted to make Sylvia abort her baby just to stop me from having Nathan Fawcett’s child, and now... he’s doting on her again!’
’Not a single word that comes out of that man’s mouth is true.’
Sylvia Warren said to Anne Sutton, "I heard Mr. Fawcett ditched you and ran off with another woman? Ms. Sutton, you’re so pathetic! Our Mr. Prescott is so much better, isn’t he?"
As she spoke, she gazed affectionately at Charles Prescott, showing off how outstanding her man was in front of Anne Sutton.
Charles Prescott said to Anne Sutton, "You came alone. Let me take you home?"
Sylvia Warren frowned when she heard he was offering to take Anne Sutton home.
’He came out with me, so why is he offering to take Anne home?’
’The baby in *my* belly is Charles Prescott’s child!’
Anne Sutton knew what Charles Prescott was after. He wanted her to get rid of the baby so its birth wouldn’t threaten his position as the Prescott heir.
’However...’
’She wasn’t about to give Charles that chance.’
"That won’t be necessary!"
Sylvia Warren said to Charles Prescott, "Honey, if she doesn’t want to, then forget it. Look at her, not knowing what’s good for her. She totally deserves what’s coming to her!"
"Who did you say deserves what’s coming to them?" Just as Sylvia Warren finished speaking, Nathan Fawcett walked over, accompanied by the butler.
The butler pushed the shopping cart, following behind. Nathan Fawcett wore a loose-fitting shirt, looking languid and sickly, but the expression on his face was exceptionally frightening.
Sylvia Warren jumped, never imagining that this terrifying man would be here!
When Charles Prescott saw Nathan Fawcett, he too was surprised. "Uncle, when did you get back?"
’There wasn’t any news about his return!’
Nathan Fawcett walked over, stared at Sylvia Warren, and said, "What did you just say to my wife? I didn’t hear you clearly. Say it again."
"I didn’t." Sylvia Warren was so scared she didn’t dare lift her head, apologizing profusely. "You must have misheard! How could I be so rude to Auntie?"
"Auntie?" Nathan Fawcett said. "Are you qualified to call her that?"
After speaking, he sat down in the empty armchair next to Anne Sutton and stared at the young couple.
Sylvia Warren said, "I’m sorry, Mr. Fawcett. It was my fault. Please forgive me!"
Just standing in front of Nathan Fawcett made her tremble with fear.
’This man... was terrifying!’
’She really didn’t understand how Anne Sutton could fall for Nathan Fawcett, let alone sleep with him and have his child.’
Charles Prescott stood to the side, showing no reaction as he watched Sylvia Warren get scolded.
Nathan Fawcett looked at Charles Prescott and said, "Is this how you control your woman? If you can’t do it, I wouldn’t mind going to the trouble of disciplining her for you."
Charles Prescott said, "My apologies. It was my negligence. There’s been too much going on at the company lately, so I haven’t been able to pay attention."
Hearing his words, Nathan Fawcett curled his lip dismissively. "If you think company business is getting in the way of you managing your woman, I can talk to my dad and have him give you some time off. That would give you more time to handle her. What do you think?"
Charles Prescott’s face stiffened. Nathan Fawcett rarely got involved in company matters, but if he said something to Chairman Fawcett, it would definitely have an effect.
The company was at a critical juncture right now. He hadn’t finished many of the projects he was handling. If he was pushed out now, it would derail important matters!
Charles Prescott quickly apologized, "Uncle, I was wrong! I won’t dare do it again! I’ll send her to my grandmother’s place right away to focus on her pregnancy. She won’t appear before you again."
Seeing his sincere apology, Nathan Fawcett decided to forgive him. He looked at Anne Sutton and said, "Let’s go home."
Anne Sutton stood up.
The two of them walked out the door.
In the car, Anne Sutton stared out the window. Nathan Fawcett glanced at her and asked, "What are you thinking about? I’ll have someone keep an eye on them. I guarantee that woman won’t appear in front of you again."
Anne Sutton looked up at Nathan Fawcett. With him by her side, she really had nothing to fear.
’But... what if he’s gone one day?’
’She can’t always count on him to protect her like this.’
Seeing her staring at him without speaking, Nathan Fawcett said, "You women are so frustrating. You like to bottle things up instead of just saying what’s on your mind."
Anne Sutton said, "I’m just worried... that in the future, if you’re gone, I won’t be able to protect this child."
’A pregnancy lasts nine months.’
’But Nathan Fawcett... he doesn’t even have two months left!’
Hearing her words, Nathan Fawcett said, "Don’t worry. Even if I’m gone, I will have already arranged for the child’s future."
"Really?"
Nathan Fawcett said, "Of course it’s true. All you need to do now is take good care of yourself."
The two returned home. As they got out of the car, a servant came over and whispered something to the butler.
