Chapter 29: Chapter 29: Specifically Waiting for Her
Anne Sutton held out the medicine bottle to Sharon Sutton and asked, "Did you put these birth control pills in here? Or did Dad tell you to?"
Sharon Sutton jumped when she saw Anne Sutton. She stared with wide eyes, not daring to speak.
’I can’t believe she found out so fast!’
"Speak!" Anne Sutton’s temper flared. She was genuinely getting angry.
’I can’t believe they’d go this far!’
Seeing this, Mrs. Sutton quickly pulled her back. "Anne, don’t be like this! Sharon is still sick!"
"Being sick doesn’t stop her from talking. She can explain this," Anne Sutton said. "Why did you put birth control pills in my medicine bottle? You know I need to have a child for the Fawcett family."
Sharon Sutton said, "Don’t ask me. I don’t know."
The matter instantly reminded her of David Hayes.
’If my sister finds out, if the family finds out, I’ll get chewed out again.’
Anne Sutton looked at her. "Sharon Sutton, I’m furious right now. I just need you to tell me the truth."
"Please, don’t push me, sis."
"So, it was Dad who told you to do this?" Anne Sutton thought of her father. ’Sharon would probably only listen to him.’ Anne Sutton said, "I’m going to go find him!"
’She wanted so badly to have a child for the Fawcett family, yet her own family was sabotaging her.’
’She was absolutely furious.’
’Would they only be happy if she let Charles Prescott threaten and control her for the rest of her life?’
Seeing Anne Sutton about to go find their father, Sharon Sutton panicked and said, "Sis, it wasn’t Dad."
"..." Seeing that she was finally willing to talk, Anne Sutton turned back to look at her. "Then who was it?"
Sharon Sutton bit her lip. "It was Mr. Prescott."
"What did you say?" Anne Sutton was stunned for a second before her anger flared. "Why would you listen to him? You know we don’t have a good relationship! Are you trying to kill me with rage? Did you forget he tried to send you to the Fawcett family? If it weren’t for me, you’d be with Nathan Fawcett right now!"
Sharon Sutton said, "I didn’t know what to do... He threatened me! He said if I didn’t listen to him, he’d... tell everyone that I’m dating David Hayes."
’As it turned out, the family found out before Charles Prescott even had a chance to say anything!’
Anne Sutton looked at her. "I don’t even know what to say to you."
Tears streamed down Sharon Sutton’s face. "I’m sorry, sis. It’s all my fault. I was wrong."
Mrs. Sutton, watching from the side, was worried sick. "Anne, don’t blame her anymore. She knows she was wrong! Look at the state she’s in. If you keep blaming her, I don’t know how she’ll go on."
Anne Sutton glanced at her mother, not wanting to worry her, and walked straight out of the hospital.
...
Charles Prescott was at his private townhouse today, and Sylvia Warren was there as well.
She had moved in here after he kicked her out last time.
Charles Prescott owned many properties.
After all, he had many girlfriends.
Having only one home would be inconvenient for him.
He was having a meal with Sylvia Warren.
Sylvia Warren asked, "How are things with Ms. Sutton? Has she been making you angry lately?"
Charles Prescott looked up at her. "When we’re together, don’t mention her."
Anne Sutton had been getting on his nerves lately, leaving him feeling agitated.
Watching helplessly as her relationship with Nathan Fawcett grew closer, Charles Prescott became increasingly anxious.
Sylvia Warren said, "Alright, then we won’t talk about her."
The trait Charles Prescott liked most about her was her obedience. She knew better than to bring up subjects that would displease him.
Just then, a servant walked in. "Mr. Prescott, Ms. Sutton is here."
Hearing this, Charles Prescott’s tense expression relaxed. "She’s finally here."
’He had come straight here after leaving Nathan Fawcett earlier today.’
’He was also the one who told Nathan Fawcett that Anne Sutton didn’t want to have his child.’
’If he hadn’t, Nathan Fawcett would never have gone through Anne Sutton’s things.’
...
’He had set a trap for her and was just waiting for her to fall into it.’
’He had even deliberately leaked his own whereabouts to Anne Sutton.’
’Right about now... ’
’...she should have had a huge fight with Nathan Fawcett by now!’
’Otherwise, she wouldn’t have come running to him at this hour.’
At this thought, Charles Prescott’s mood improved immensely. "Show her in."
...
Sylvia Warren looked at Charles Prescott. "You seem very happy, Mr. Prescott?"
’Just a moment ago he didn’t want me to mention Anne Sutton, but now he’s smiling just from hearing she’s here.’
’She had been with him for so long, and she had rarely ever seen him smile.’
Charles Prescott looked at Sylvia Warren and said, "Go upstairs for now." freewebnoveℓ.com
"Alright." Sylvia Warren was a little displeased. ’It felt just like the old days. Whenever Anne Sutton showed up, she had to hide.’
But it was an order from Charles Prescott, and she didn’t dare to cross him, so she had no choice but to get up and leave the dining room.
She didn’t go far, however. She just hid nearby to listen to their conversation.
Soon, Anne Sutton walked in, following the servant.
She saw Charles Prescott sitting alone at the dining table, but there were two place settings on it, one of them half-used. ’Someone else is here,’ she realized.
Charles Prescott looked up at her, his voice gentle. "Anne, what brings you here? Did you miss me?"
Anne Sutton’s face was grim. She was holding the medicine bottle, and in one swift motion, she hurled it at him. Her aim was true—it hit Charles Prescott squarely in the face. The servant saw this and gasped, "Mr. Prescott!"
He glared at Anne Sutton and angrily moved to grab her.
Charles Prescott stopped him. "You’re dismissed."
The servant said, "But..."
Charles Prescott looked up and shot him an icy glare. The servant flinched and hurried away.
Once they were the only two left in the dining room, Charles Prescott reached up to touch his face. He looked at Anne Sutton, who was glaring at him, then his gaze fell to the medicine bottle on the floor.
He picked up the medicine bottle. "This... could be considered a weapon, couldn’t it? Anne, do you have any idea that if I called the police, I could have you charged with assault?"
"Charles Prescott!" Anne Sutton stared him down. "You’re the one who had Sharon give me this, aren’t you! You made her spike my medicine. If I were to call the police, what do you think they’d say? The great President Prescott, drugging someone... Your reputation would be ruined!"
Charles Prescott looked at her, a smirk playing on his lips. "I don’t know what you’re talking about. This... whatever it is, I’ve never seen it before."
"You’re acting. Go on, keep up the act!" Anne Sutton glared at him. ’Sharon already confessed, but he can still play dumb so convincingly.’
’This man is completely shameless.’
’Even when caught red-handed, he can act like he had nothing to do with it.’
Seeing her seething with anger, Charles Prescott stood up and walked over to her.
The spot on his face where the bottle had hit him was red and swollen, and a welt was already starting to form.
And yet, he remained perfectly calm and composed. "Anne, I’m so happy you came to see me. You being this furious can only mean one thing... Nathan Fawcett kicked you out, didn’t he?"
