Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Asking Sharon for Help

When he heard he had to write a letter of guarantee, Charles Prescott was naturally unwilling. "You want me to write it right now? How am I supposed to do that?"

"Just type it out on your phone and send it to me on WeChat," Anne Sutton said, looking at him earnestly. "If you want me to trust you, you have to give me some peace of mind. Right?"

Charles Prescott looked at her, realizing she was truly...

’He was being so sincere, but she still refused to listen to him.’

Charles Prescott said softly, "Anne, why don’t you trust me? This is just between you and me. How can we put it on WeChat?"

"Even on WeChat, only you and I will know about it. As long as you keep your promise, I won’t show it to anyone. What’s the matter? It seems to me that you’re the one who doesn’t trust *me*!"

Charles Prescott said, "Of course I’ll do what I promised you. When have I ever broken my word? As for a written guarantee, that’s completely pointless."

"Hmph," Anne Sutton retorted. "I see you’re just taking me for a fool! Trying to get something for nothing. You tell me not to have Nathan Fawcett’s child now, but what path is left for me after he’s gone?" freewebnøvel.coɱ

Anne Sutton clearly remembered how he had bullied and humiliated her in front of the hospital director.

She had no desire to waste any more breath on this man, so she simply stood up and left.

Charles Prescott watched her leave, rubbing his brow.

’Anne Sutton’s whole family is helping me persuade her, and yet the woman is still so damn stubborn!’

’She really isn’t afraid of death, is she!’

He knew she was angry about Sylvia Warren and wanted to calm her down first.

’It was just a promise.’

’Besides, if she actually agreed not to have Nathan Fawcett’s child, he would marry her later on.’

’But who would have thought she’d actually demand a written guarantee!’

’Considering his identity and status, if she ever leaked that letter, would his reputation ever recover?’

...

Anne Sutton was being completely unyielding. Charles Prescott felt he had been very polite and patient with her, but she wasn’t giving him any face at all.

She was completely unwilling to even discuss it with him!

It left him feeling extremely frustrated.

It was rush hour, and traffic was a bit heavy. Charles Prescott sat in his car, staring at his tablet for a while until his eyes began to ache.

He lifted his head and, for once, glanced at the scenery outside the window.

Though it could hardly be called scenery.

The streets were just packed with people during rush hour.

Just then, a familiar figure appeared in his line of sight.

Sharon Sutton was beside a young man, and they were holding hands, looking very close.

Charles Prescott ordered the driver, "Pull over."

The driver stopped the car.

Charles Prescott rolled down the window and called out, "Sharon."

Hearing the voice, Sharon Sutton turned around. She jumped when she saw Charles Prescott. "B-Brother-in-law!"

Charles Prescott had been her brother-in-law for many years, and that’s what she had always called him. In her nervousness, she momentarily forgot to address him differently.

The combination of Charles Prescott’s sudden appearance while she was with her boyfriend made her face turn pale with fright.

Charles Prescott glanced at the young man beside her and asked, "Is that your boyfriend?"

Sharon Sutton snapped to her senses and immediately let go of his hand in a panic. "No, no! We’re just regular friends."

Anne Sutton always said she was too young, and her family treated her like a child. To ensure she could focus on her studies, Anne had even gone so far as to marry Nathan Fawcett.

Now that she was secretly dating, she couldn’t help but feel like she was letting her sister down.

Charles Prescott said, "Get in. I’ll take you home."

Hearing this, Sharon Sutton turned back, glanced at the young man, and said, "I have to go."

With that, she opened the car door and got into Charles Prescott’s car.

In the car, Charles Prescott remarked, "That young man is not bad-looking."

"No, no," Sharon insisted. "He’s really just a classmate."

"Don’t worry. I won’t tell your sister or your family about this."

Hearing this, Sharon Sutton finally breathed a sigh of relief. She said to Charles Prescott, "Thank you, Broth— Thank you, Mr. Prescott."

Seeing her correct herself, Charles Prescott said gently, "You don’t have to be so formal. You can just keep calling me Brother-in-law."

"But..." Sharon said, "aren’t you and my sister separated? You don’t want her anymore."

Sharon couldn’t help but complain a little.

’If Charles Prescott had been good to her sister, Anne wouldn’t have ended up marrying someone like Nathan Fawcett.’

Charles Prescott said, "How could I not want her? It’s obvious she’s the one who doesn’t want me!"

"How could that be?" Sharon said. "My sister used to like you a lot. If she didn’t like you, why would she have stayed with you for so long?" fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

"You think your sister liked me?" Charles Prescott asked, intrigued.

"Of course!" Sharon said. "She definitely liked you a lot. After all, she would ignore any other guy who showed interest in her."

Charles Prescott smiled. "She never told me she liked me. If you hadn’t said so, I never would have known."

"But you broke her heart, and now she’s had to marry that old man. My sister is going to be a widow someday. Just thinking about it makes me upset."

Charles Prescott said, "Sharon, do you want your sister and me to be together in the future?"

"That’s just nonsense talk. She’s already married, how could you two get together? There really are no good men in this world!"

Charles Prescott said, "I don’t mind that she’s been married before. As long as she still has me in her heart, I’ll marry her after Nathan Fawcett dies."

"Really?" Sharon asked, curious.

Charles Prescott said, "She’s been the only woman for me all these years. I love her very much, so of course I’m telling the truth."

Hearing him claim to love Anne Sutton, Sharon rolled her eyes at him. "I don’t believe a word you say. You have so many women around you. I heard you had a lot of girlfriends behind my sister’s back. That’s why my sister was so angry."

"That was all just for show," Charles Prescott said. "When a man is out doing business, sometimes his hands are tied. I really do love your sister. She just won’t forgive me right now, so she’s ignoring me and even married Nathan Fawcett out of spite."

"So what do you want?" Sharon asked.

Charles Prescott said, "The Fawcett family wants her to have Nathan Fawcett’s child, but the doctors say he won’t live another two months. If your sister really has his child, she’ll have to raise it all by herself. She’s been so good to you. Can you bear to see that happen to her?"

"I can’t," Sharon said. "My sister deserves to be cherished. She’s so wonderful."

The thought of Anne Sutton marrying Nathan Fawcett in her place made Sharon’s heart ache.

Charles Prescott said, "Then you need to figure out a way to stop her from having Nathan Fawcett’s child."

Sharon said, "I’ll call her later and try to talk some sense into her."

"And you think you can convince her?" Charles Prescott said, looking as if he could see right through her.

Sharon said, "I don’t know, but I can try!"

Charles Prescott said, "Don’t bother trying to persuade her. In your sister’s eyes, you’re just a child; she won’t listen to you. Even your father couldn’t convince her. You just have to do your brother-in-law one favor."

"What kind of favor?"
