"Absolutely not!" Sean Sutton said. "You can’t go to the hospital! If Anne and Sharon see you, they’ll cause a scene."
He wasn’t worried about Mrs. Sutton, who had a good temper, but he was still somewhat wary of his two daughters.
Especially Anne.
If she saw that he had another woman—and a child—on the side, she definitely wouldn’t let it go so easily.

Standing outside the door, Anne Sutton clenched her fists as she listened. She pushed the door open, wanting to see what this woman looked like.
’To think she’d be brazen enough to come to my family’s company! This is too outrageous! Is it because my mother is sick that she’s decided she doesn’t have to respect her anymore?’
Seeing Anne Sutton enter, Sean Sutton jumped in surprise, and the other woman immediately let go of him.
She stood to one side, watching Anne Sutton defensively.
The woman wasn’t particularly attractive.
Objectively speaking, Anne Sutton thought the woman wasn’t even as good-looking as her own mother.
’So, this is my father’s mistress? It’s true what they say. Men are always drawn to a woman on the side, even if she’s plain, or downright ugly! They just can’t get enough!’
Sean Sutton said, "Anne, what are you doing here?"
Seeing his daughter, he put on a friendly facade. Anne Sutton stared at the other woman and asked, feigning ignorance, "Who is she?"
Sean Sutton glanced at her and said evasively, "This is my business partner. Her surname is Walters. You can just call her Auntie Walters."
"Auntie?" Anne Sutton stared at her father.
Feeling guilty, Sean Sutton turned to Ms. Walters and said, "You should head back for now."
The woman said, "I’ll be on my way, then."
After all, Sean Sutton had just agreed to her request.
She glanced at Anne Sutton, her eyes filled with a hint of provocation, and walked out.
Anne Sutton fought the urge to hit someone, looked at her father, and said, "Mom’s in the hospital. I thought you were busy. I never expected you’d be here with another woman!"
"What nonsense are you spouting!" Caught by Anne Sutton, Sean Sutton refused to admit it, denying, "I already told you, we’re just colleagues! What are you talking about? Your father isn’t that kind of person!"
"You have an illegitimate daughter with her?" Anne Sutton had thought her father was just like Charles Prescott, with many women on the side, but she never imagined he had an illegitimate daughter, too.

"I heard everything just now," Anne Sutton said, staring at her father. "How could you do this to Mom? Sean Sutton, you’re a real bastard!"
’To think of all the years Mom worked so hard at home, raising the children... only to find out he’s this kind of man! For the sake of the Sutton Family, I even got engaged to Charles Prescott and put up with all of that... Suddenly, it all feels like it wasn’t worth it. Seeing that he could no longer hide it, Sean Sutton said, "Since you already know, you can’t tell your mother about this. If you do, with her poor health... what if the shock is too much for her?"
Anne Sutton retorted, "You choose now to think about Mom’s health? Where was this concern before?"
"I’ve been hiding it from her precisely because I was afraid she’d find out. It was all my fault back then, I made a mistake, but... what’s done is done. I can’t change it. Anne, we’re a family. Don’t do something that will break your mother’s heart."
"The person making Mom upset is you!" Anne Sutton’s hands clenched together. "I really don’t understand how I could have a father like you. Heaven is so cruel, making me your daughter!"
The thought made her incredibly sad.

Every single thing he did disappointed her more and more.
She had thought him conspiring with Charles Prescott to get rid of her child back then was already unforgivable, but she never imagined he could do something even more disgusting.
Now that Anne Sutton had him cornered, Sean Sutton didn’t argue back when she said these things. He just asked, "Why did you come here today?"
Anne Sutton looked at him, remembering why she had come. If it weren’t for Sharon, she would never have set foot in her father’s company.
Anne Sutton said, "Sharon is getting married. She asked me to come and tell you."
"Getting married?" Sean Sutton asked. "To whom? She hasn’t said a word to the family."
"David Hayes. Her old boyfriend from her school days."
How could Sean Sutton forget that name? He had even hit Sharon Sutton once because of that scumbag.
And now, to his surprise, Sharon Sutton was going to marry him!
Sean Sutton said angrily, "Has she lost her mind? How is that man worthy of Sharon! His family is dirt-poor. I don’t approve of them being together. If Sharon ends up with him, I’m afraid she won’t even be able to afford to eat and will need the family to bail her out."
His first reaction to hearing David Hayes’s name was that the man’s family had no money, not that he had once been a scumbag.

In her father’s eyes, a man messing around on the side was no big deal.
After all, he himself had a whole other family on the outside now!
Anne Sutton said, "Sharon’s pregnant. She’s pregnant with David Hayes’s child, so they’re getting married. I’m just here to inform you."
