Chapter 148: Chapter 148: Stella Shields Takes Care of the Child

’But it seems my leaving didn’t affect him at all!

He hasn’t pestered me, either. It’s probably because Stella Shields is with him now.

I was the one who took his words to heart and thought too highly of myself, actually believing he came back for the Fawcett Group.

Actually, it would be for the best if he could just keep suppressing Charles Prescott like this... and take back the Fawcett Group!

I’m not asking for much. As long as I don’t have to see his face—Nathan Fawcett’s face—I won’t let myself develop any deeper feelings for him.’

In the car, Ian sat next to Nathan Fawcett and asked, "Dad, when is Anne coming back?"

Nathan glanced at him. He had gone to the office today, leaving Ian with Stella Shields. He had only just picked him up.

Hearing Ian’s words, Nathan said, "What, you miss her?"

"Yeah."

After speaking, Ian sneezed.

Although Stella Shields had been taking care of him for the past two days, he hadn’t been happy at her place at all.

He used to think Stella Shields was his mother and had looked forward to her showing him more affection.

But now that he was with Stella Shields, he felt that she wasn’t very good to him. He didn’t feel cared for at all.

Seeing him sneeze, Nathan asked, "Do you have a cold?"

Ian looked at Nathan. Nathan reached out, took his son’s hand, and found it terribly cold. He touched his cheek, and it was icy too.

Stella Shields had thought he was too noisy, so she’d made him play outside for half the day.

It was cold outside today, and he wasn’t wearing many clothes. This was the result.

When Nathan got home, he had someone find some medicine for Ian to take and then put more clothes on him.

That night, after coaxing Ian to sleep, he discovered the boy was starting to run a fever.

A sick child is the most troublesome thing.

The housekeeper stood to the side, looked at Nathan, and said, "Sir, should we take him to the hospital?"

Nathan said, "Ian isn’t used to the climate here, and it’s gotten cold recently. It’s all my fault for not taking good care of him. Let’s go to the hospital."

He couldn’t rest easy if this continued.

Even though it was his first time being a father, Nathan was never careless about anything related to his child.

「 ... 」

The next morning, Anne Sutton went to the hospital.

A colleague at the hospital saw her and greeted her, "Oh, Dr. Sutton."

Anne asked, "What is it?"

The colleague said, "Your son was admitted. Why haven’t you gone to see him?"

"My son?" Anne was stunned for a moment.

Her colleague said, "The one who came to pick you up from the hospital last time!"

Everyone knew about the time Nathan Fawcett had brought Ian to the hospital to pick up Anne.

So now that Ian was hospitalized, they all assumed he was her son and Nathan was her husband.

Hearing this, Anne understood.

’So...’

’Ian is sick?’

「 ... 」

Anne found out which room Ian was in and went up when she had a free moment.

Stella Shields was there too. She had arrived in the morning. Nathan had stayed with Ian at the hospital all night and had just left for a little while to take care of something.

Stella sat to the side and said to Ian, "Come on, eat something! Ian, you need to eat to get better."

"I don’t want to eat." Ian had no appetite.

Besides, the food Stella had brought was all stuff he didn’t want to eat.

Stella said, "Hurry up and eat! If you don’t eat, Mommy won’t like you anymore."

Hearing this, Ian’s eyes widened as he stared at Stella. He raised his hand and knocked the bowl over.

Stella was furious. "What are you doing? I came here early this morning to take care of you, and this is how you act? I try to feed you and you knock it over. Why are you such a disobedient child?"

"I don’t want you!" Seeing her bad attitude, Ian didn’t want to listen to her anymore and retorted, "Where’s my dad? I want my dad to come back."

He had previously thought of Stella as his mother, but after spending two days with her, he realized he really didn’t like her.

She seemed gentle, but he just didn’t feel any warmth from her.

She even lost her temper...

Stella sneered. "Your dad! Your dad is busy with work. He has so much to do, how could he have time for you? You should be grateful that I’m here taking care of you!"

"I want Anne to be my mommy, not you."

Hearing Anne’s name made Stella even angrier. "Is Anne Sutton so great? It doesn’t matter how much you like her. I’m your mother."

Ian said, "I don’t want you!"

"That’s not up to you."

Hearing this, Anne pushed the door open and walked in.

Stella jumped, startled. She turned to look at Anne, and upon seeing who it was, she let out a sigh of relief. "What are you doing here?"

Anne glanced at Ian on the hospital bed. The little guy had a fever and already looked pitiful. After being yelled at so harshly by Stella, his eyes were red, with tears welling up.

Anne said, "Ian is sick. If you have something to say, say it to him nicely. Ms. Shields, this is no way to take care of a child."

Stella already disliked Anne for suddenly appearing and stealing Nathan’s attention.

Now, for her to show up and lecture her to her face made Stella even more resentful.

"Why are you putting on this hypocritical show? How I take care of a child is my own business. Should I spoil him like you do? What good comes from constant coddling? In the end, you’re only trying to get on Ian’s good side to get closer to Ethan Linden, aren’t you? You talk as if you actually love children!"

’If you loved children, why would you have thought about getting an abortion back then?’

’Ian is just a child she abandoned.’

At this thought, Stella felt she was much better than Anne.

Anne said, "Ian is sick. He’s just a little boy. What’s wrong with comforting him?"

Stella glanced back at Ian and said, "He’s my child. How I handle him is my business. What are you doing here? Not with Charles Prescott anymore? Suddenly you have the time to meddle in Ian’s affairs?"

"I’m not with Charles Prescott."

"Right," Stella said. "Someone as materialistic as you finds out Charles Prescott has been kicked out and his career at the Fawcett Group is in jeopardy, so of course you wouldn’t want to be with him anymore. But if you’re trying to get close to Ethan Linden, you should take a good look at yourself and see if you’re even worthy. Ian is my child. You aren’t actually trying to be a homewrecker, are you?"

The word "homewrecker" made Anne’s heart stop.

That was something she was truly sensitive about.

She looked at Stella and said, "It’s not like that. I just wanted to come see Ian. Even if I have nothing to do with Ethan Linden, I’m still his sister-in-law, which means Ian should call me his aunt. It’s not out of line for me to come see him, is it?"

Stella: "..."

Seeing how sharp-tongued Anne was, Stella found herself speechless. It was a good chance for her to step out and get some air anyway.

Besides, Nathan wouldn’t be back for a while.

He was still busy at the office.

She couldn’t ask for a better outcome than having someone else help take care of Ian.
