Chapter 147: Chapter 147: Charles Prescott Is Kicked Out

Stella Shields watched this scene, a smile playing on her lips. She was the one who had called Charles Prescott over.

It had also been her idea for him to come pick up Anne Sutton. Thankfully... Charles Prescott hadn’t disappointed.

She said, "Ethan, are you okay? I can get out and call Ms. Sutton over!"

Nathan Fawcett watched the scene unfold. Seeing Anne Sutton’s intimate behavior with Charles Prescott, he picked up his phone and made a call.

Anne Sutton was being blocked by Charles Prescott when she saw the call. The name "Ethan Linden" was on the screen. She answered, "Hello."

Nathan Fawcett asked, "Where are you? I’ll come get you."

Anne Sutton said, "I’m staying with my mother at the hospital tonight. I’m not coming back."

She hadn’t planned on going back anyway. Nathan Fawcett’s words from that morning still bothered her a great deal.

She was planning to go back to her own place near the hospital.

Nathan Fawcett said, "Is that so? Are you sure you’re not with Charles Prescott?"

If he hadn’t been watching with his own eyes, he would have believed her.

But as it turned out...

’Unbelievable!’

’She really is getting tangled up with Charles Prescott!’

Anne Sutton froze when she heard Nathan Fawcett’s words. She looked up and saw his car parked on the side of the road.

Just then, the call was abruptly disconnected, and Nathan Fawcett’s car quickly drove away.

Anne Sutton watched the car disappear, her expression darkening. She pushed Charles Prescott away and walked off without another word.

Charles Prescott didn’t try to stop her this time.

Seeing that "Ethan Linden" had called her, combined with Anne Sutton’s reaction, he knew...

’...coming here today was the right move.’

’Stella Shields hadn’t lied to him!’

Seeing Anne Sutton walk away, he didn’t chase after her.

After all, he had already achieved his goal.

Because Charles Prescott had been blocking her way, Anne Sutton hadn’t driven her own car. She simply hailed a cab and left.

She sat in her seat, looking at the ended call from Nathan Fawcett. Anne Sutton wanted to call him back, but she restrained herself.

She sent Nathan Fawcett a text message, explaining the situation. "Charles Prescott came looking for me! I don’t know if you misunderstood, but there’s really nothing between us."

After typing it out, she sent the message, then turned off her phone screen. Sitting there, she felt utterly exhausted.

She told the driver to take her directly to her own apartment.

She explained things to Nathan Fawcett because she didn’t want him to misunderstand.

But that didn’t mean she was going to be with Nathan Fawcett right now!

After all, she still hadn’t figured out what was going on between him and Stella Shields.

Anne Sutton wasn’t willing to risk being a homewrecker just to be with him in some ambiguous relationship.

Nathan Fawcett and Stella Shields had already arrived at the restaurant with Ian.

Ian looked at Nathan Fawcett and asked, "Daddy, why didn’t we bring Anne to eat with us?"

He used her name directly, so as not to confuse her with Stella Shields.

Nathan Fawcett glanced at him. "She’s busy."

Just as he said that, he saw a message pop up from Anne Sutton.

He looked at the woman’s words, sneered, and didn’t reply.

’I’ve decided I’m not going to pay her any mind for a while.’

’And I’m not talking to her when I get back, either!’

Stella Shields saw Nathan Fawcett’s reaction and knew he was in a bad mood.

Everything was going exactly as she had imagined, which made her very happy.

To stop Ian from saying the wrong thing and ruining her plan, Stella Shields said, "Ian, let’s eat first!"

Ian sat to the side, staring at Nathan Fawcett. "I don’t want to eat. I want to see Anne. Daddy, can we go see Anne after we finish eating? Please?"

"Ian." Stella Shields looked at the little brat and felt her temper rise. ’Haven’t I been taking care of you all day? Have I not been good to you?’

’All he ever thinks about is Anne Sutton!’

Stella Shields said, "Hurry up and eat! Your father is in a bad mood right now."

At this, she glanced at Nathan Fawcett and said, "Actually, her relationship with Charles Prescott has always been like this. You can’t force feelings. I have friends who insist on being with scumbags. They’ll complain to me about the guy, but the second he shows a bit of weakness, they immediately forgive him. A lot of women are like that! If you try to change her, she’ll just think you’re the one with the problem!"

Hearing Stella Shields’ words, Nathan Fawcett glanced at her. "Is that so?"

Stella Shields nodded. "Mhm. I know Charles Prescott isn’t a good person, but... they did grow up together. You can’t just erase that history! Don’t worry about it too much! And don’t have such high expectations for her, or you’ll just end up hurting yourself."

Nathan Fawcett rubbed the bridge of his nose. "I keep giving Anne Sutton chances."

For Ian’s sake, he was trying his best not to dwell on the past.

But it seemed like every time Charles Prescott got near, she’d get tangled up with him again.

’Maybe it really is just like Stella Shields said!’

Stella Shields said, "You and she are from two different worlds. Even if you had some connection in the past... I don’t think you should force yourselves to live together in the future. Look, you’ve been doing just fine these past few years without her, haven’t you? After all, she was capable of doing something so outrageous back then."

After listening to Stella Shields, Nathan Fawcett said, "I’ve lost my appetite."

He stood up as soon as he finished speaking.

Stella Shields: "..."

’Was that really necessary?’

’Is he so mad at Anne Sutton that he won’t even eat dinner?’

...

The next day, Anne Sutton worked a full shift. The busyness of the hospital made time pass faster and kept her from dwelling on Ethan Linden and letting him affect her mood.

However, after her shift, she secretly made a trip to the Fawcett Residence. She had the driver park at the entrance and saw Charles Prescott and his family moving out.

Mrs. Prescott was not happy about it. She said to Charles Prescott, "Where are we moving to? Can’t we just stay here?"

She had never lived in such a nice house in her entire life.

They had only been there for a few days, and now she was being forced to move out along with Charles Prescott. It was something she had never expected.

Naturally, she was upset!

Charles Prescott stood to the side without saying a word.

He had gone to see Ethan Linden, hoping he wouldn’t have to move out, but Ethan had rejected him flat out.

To avoid making things too ugly, he had no choice but to move out for now.

Publicly, he would say he wanted to move to a new place. It was a better way to save face.

...

Miles Prescott had been away for the past two days. Charles had told his father about the situation, so now he was solely responsible for the move.

’I’ll be moving back here sooner or later anyway.’

So, he wasn’t moving too many things for the time being.

Anne Sutton sat in the car, watching them finish up the move.

Charles Prescott stood at the main gate, staring at the entrance to the Fawcett Residence like a beaten dog that had been kicked out. Seeing him actually being forced to leave, she felt a sense of relief.

She said to the driver, "Let’s go."

The taxi driver drove away immediately.

Just then, a car pulled up. Anne Sutton saw that it was Nathan Fawcett’s car and realized he was back. Her heart began to pound.

She didn’t know why, but even though she knew she was in a taxi and Nathan Fawcett couldn’t see her, just being near the man made her feel nervous.

She didn’t even know what she was afraid of.

’Maybe I’m afraid that if I leave, he’ll stop dealing with the Fawcett family’s problems.’
